Morning Glories 2005 #22

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

oh so I don't have to worry just yet then huh? LOLOLOL Those are sure precious, how old are the twinnies??? I sometimes miss having babies in the house, mine are now near 10 & 11 :(

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

they will be 9 months on the 23rd. Justin is crawling and pulling himself up and Jackie thank goodness is still content to lay on the floor and play :) Its nice to be able to watch them, gives me a bit of the need I feel to hold another little one, but also makes me remember what those days were like.... do I really want to do that again? LOLOL Mine are almost 4, 7, almost 9 and almost 15 :( nothing like a kid in HS to make ya feel old

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok, I ended up leaving the house this am 15 minutes late, being stuck in traffic, and JUST making it to work on time . . . all because I looked out the window.

Here's my first Maisugata . .

Thanks Janis and Laurrie for my 'Good Morning Laugh' -
too much fun going on here...lol

Nichole,
don't you just love the 'Maisugata'.
Let me know if yours stays open all day in your San Antonio heat.
My vine just started blooming and every bloom has stayed open.
Neat to watch them change colors before the end of the day.

Janis,
your fire that no one knows how to put out is definitely a Red Adair job - who lives in Houston. His vehicles are ALL painted a Bright Cherry Red. When you see those, you KNOW who they belong to...lol
Seriously,
Can't believe your government hasn't called Red to take care of it.
Here is one of many links
http://www.famoustexans.com/redadair.htm

Certainly they KNOW about Red Adair.....Hmmmmmm

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

PS...
forgot to add - that only if his company still exists.
He died at age 89 last year.

Janis, they are adorable!! you've got some little ones too I also have a 19 yr. old stepson, so have been thru that teenage thing as well :)

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Woofens, I just love twins. They are so cute, and besides that my DH and I are both twins. lol

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Sylvia!!! That is too cool, I didn't know that!!! we learn so much on here don't we?

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Sylvia,
Neat that you are a 'Twin'....
Only means there is ANOTHER great lady out there too!
Emma

Y'all in Texas, I hope you stay safe during the Hurricane Rita storm. Be well.

Joseph

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Joseph -

What are the chances of you having to come to Texas?

I guess I ought to move my potted plants into the garage . . . they say the wind will get up to 30 mph here. Plus who knows how much water.

Our call center in Corpus Christi is already being shut down tomorrow. Guess I'm glad we didn't end up moving there . . .

Nichole

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, Emma, actually I had a twin brother who died in infancy with whooping cough. My hubby has an identical brother. We always notice twins though because of the connection. Sure wish we would have had twin grandchildren, but with the 10 wonderful grandchildren we have, guess we shouldn't be greedy.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Emma - Here's the same two Maisugata as of 5 minutes ago. They're both still open, but not as much. This morning they were a royal blue color, now they're more purple.

The Chachamaru has closed already.

Thanks, Nichole....
That is what mine are doing also.
Just amazing how gorgeous they remain throughout almost the entire day.
I will most definitely grow these again next year - and more than one vine.

Janis - the picture of the sideview of the double throated flower including the sepals is very interesting and revealing...I would say that if you counted the total number of sepals, that it would be more than 5,and I would 'bet' that is has twin ovaries as well...like 'siamese twins'...Wow,how I hope that produces seeds from both ovaries...please monitor that pod and take pictures of all sides of it showing the sepals and the look of it as it develops...the bees may have done a good enough job of pollinating both of the double throats...so the result should be a 'siamese twin' seedpod with two separate points, but joined at the sides...I am so(!) interested to see that(and to hopefully get at least 1 of the seeds)...if both of the twin ovaries contained the usual number of locules and ovules, and if all were fertilized, then the result should be 6 seeds from each of the twins, for a grand total of 12 seeds from the 'siamese twin' pods...
Janis, if you can carefully(!) count the total number of sepals,I will venture any finer tunings to my 'prediction' as to nature of the resultant twin pods and seed production...

zemerson - no,I have never seen one of these flowers or pods before, but perhaps, just perhaps(!),my insight(s) may ultimately prove to be of some real actual objective value...I value credibilty and unprejudiced objectivity...
You have some nice blooms...it was nice of Emma to share her seeds with you...I'm looking forward to more of your sharing...

tazzy - Nice blue MG...looks like it might be descended from one of the 'Blue Henka' types that Gail and Emma have...sure looks like a MG to me...I think you've got that part for sure(!)...not everybody is interested to learn all of the different names, and knowing the names is not required to simply enjoy the beauty of the flowers...,but some gardeners find that knowing more about the names broadens their experience and enjoyment...everyone gets to enjoy and share in their own way...

mornin_gayle - did you ever determine if the plant your friend has is a Calystegia or not and if you are still interested to grow it yourself(?)...

Nicholejean - The blueiish-purple yojiro you have looks nice(!)...I'm wondering if you might have the Chiaki as the picture you posted seems to resemble the Chiaki colored yojiro more than the darker colored Mai Sugata that both Gerris2 and Emma have posted...I still remeber your accurate call on that 'Cairo' which was absolutely unbelieveable(!)...nice going(!)...

I really(!) enjoy(!) learning(!) and sharing what I have learned ,so long as that is welcome(!)...
I would be very interested to hear from anyone(!) else who has any insight and is willing to openly post and share it,into the nature of the unusual double throated flower and resultant pod...I always appreciate and welcome any willingness to share...

I would like to make a Very Clear Definitive Statement regarding my experience of the Forums as follows:

Everyone has their own way of enjoying and sharing...some people have little or no interest in any 'technical' details and postings that are of a 'technical' nature may not be for those who are uninterested in any technicalities and that is perfectly(!) okay(!)...some people are(!) interested in learning more indepth details, and postings containing the more indepth aspects may be more interesting to their eyes and ears...
The forums are for Everyone(!) to share any and all types of different ways of enjoying and should not discriminate against any simple interests or(!) the sharing of a more indepth nature, regardless of the different numbers/populations of people whose enjoyment is of a more simple manner or those who are(!) in fact interested to learn aspects of a more technical nature...all manner of interest is valid...
Some people initially uninterested in a more indepth interest have found that postings of a more indepth nature have afterwards created a genuine(!) interest and enjoyment(!) of learning about more indepth aspects...some people may decide to return to a more simpler manner of enjoyment...the Forums are to celebrate and stimulate all manner of sharing and interest coexistent(!) at the same time(!)...(!)...(!)...
When I (for example) share a commentary on something that has been posted,my commentary is directed at what(!) has been posted, not(!) at the person(!) posting...please keep this very important aspect in mind regarding postings...
The posting of commentaries critical of the legitimacy of a persons information, may indirectly reduce the crediblity of the source of that information, but care should be taken to keep any focus on the quality of information presented from any source and not on the person...similar to what people may share in the GardenWatch about the credibilty of vendors...if a vendor has offered what is experienced to be poor quality products that may include inaccurate identifications and and/or other misinformation, that may be duly noted,is a legitimate commentary and is totally in order...
I am expressly stating this because sometimes anyone can forget the diversity of depth of interest that is an integral part of the Forums and mistakenly take a comment 'personal',instead of maintaining a proper perspective that comments are properly directed at what(!) is posted, and not who(!) posted it..
Personal attacks are out of order...legitimate comments either supporting or contesting the validity of anything(be it a photo or any information) posted/presented are completely in order,to be expected and should not be taken personally...these are Forums(!) which include legitimate discussion and comments, not just(!) galleries...
We all get to share and celebrate the many different(!) ways(!) that we enjoy our gardening, plants and postings that are the most suited to our individual natures, interests and conveniences...a very simple interest and appreciation is no better than or less than a more indepth interest and appreciation...Let's all continue to celebrate and share our Unity in appreciation of Nature and the Diversity of the ways in which we all Enjoy that appreciation...Unity in Diversity(!)...

Glad to see all of appreciation of Nature being shared on these Forums...

TTY'all...

attached is a recent closeup of the flower of Merremia dissecta...the curly stamens and the bi-loed stigma that are clearly visible are characteristic of this genus...Enjoy(!)...

Ron - As far as what the seeds are . . . I'm calling them what they were posted as on Ebay. And, since I really don't read japanese . . . Last time I looked, there was nothing for Maisugata in the Plant Files. Maybe if it's slow at work today (HA!) I can do some internet researching on it . .

I just hope the wind doesn't get too bad in San Antonio this weekend . . . I've got so many vines that are just babies, plus the 2 cross vine and 2 datura plants that I planted the last few weeks. The only thing I can put in the garage is the butterfly pea vine!

Nicholejean - here is the link to Mai Sugata...
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/106236/index.html
it's entered in the PlantFiles as one word, even though it should be as two separate words...What do you think on the color difference...
The Ipomoea purpuirea Flaked strain you posted is looking very(!) nice...nice placement and contrast to the colors...
