'Fuji No Sora'
with AWESOME foliage!
Anyone ever have this kind of foliage?
Curious what the leaves will do as the vine matures.
This is another of my new bloomers from last week.
Morning Glories 2005 #22
Emma - just a gentle reminder...the plant type I mentioned at the end of the last thread was the 'speckled' "Fuji Shibori",not the Mt.Fuji's,even though I too have a particular liking for the various yojiro hybrids...Check your Fuji Shibori's...
I remembered you using the term "Yohaku" that I saw a merchant use...I haven't checked into the meaning or translation of that term yet,but posting it on here will certainly remind me to...
I have a general question about photography and that is I hear from people that theycan't get good closeups because
1) they can't get the settings on the camera right
2) there camera is a low pixel camera
What type of settings could not be set properly to disallow good clear closeups and how do you get the camera set up to do closeups well(?)
Even if a digital camera is a low pixel version, aren't the low pixel cameras at least as good quality as non digital regular 35 mm film(?)

*faints dead*
why doesn't that ever happen to me? lol! AWESOME purpurea, I have never seen anything like it!!!! Everything else is amazing as usual :)
-Zem
I probably fainted the same time you did Zem -
Is that the MOST incredible bloom yet!
Can't wait to hear what Ron has to say about it.
Ohhh,
Maybe this'll be something Ron hasn't seen... just maybe :) but He'll have some insight on it either way

*picking up zemmerson and Emma*
Woofens,
Wow, what beautiful pictures. That "freaky purple purple purpurea" is amazing! I'm glad I don't have to say that out loud tho, lol.
I'd be interested in a few seeds of the pink picotee, if you can spare them. I have a blue picotee, and I'd like to plant them together. If not, could you tell me where you obtained them?
mg
Hey, Woofens, if your wallpaper puts out any seeds, I would like a couple. lol
rofl mini :) I'll keep that in mind (you'll get some if I do )
Zem, Emma, MG, thanks so very much. I know it really reached out and grabbed my attention. worst part is, I felt really bad today, and hadn't even gone out to look at the MG's, probably wouldn't have if I hadn't had a neighbors mother stop and ask to se them. She is going to talk to the local gardening club about my MG's at the next meeting :)
I personally can't wait to see what Ron has to say about this purp. I saw on another thread he was off to catch a train :((
Wait and se
Thanks all
Hugs,
mornin_gayle I think I put too many purple's in the purple purple purpurea LOL
I'm off to make dinner and try to say that 3 times fast
Tazzy, definately an MG, and a very pretty one :)
Janis
Janis,
It's another Ipomoea iwannahavit LOL if you get seeds of this one, can we do a trade? I don't know what else you would want, it seems you have every JMG on the books LOL!

The vine that came from is setting seed, but I have no idea how they will turn out. I do have that bud marked, so keep your fingers crossed. I'm definately gonna be taking a closer look at the purple purpureas from now on :)
And there is still a few out there I am coveting LOL
Thanks for the comments Glad to see you posting again, missed ya!!
Janis
Well Janis this beats all http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1771400 We are all standing in line with our hand out!!! Great pictures.
thanks Ronnie... you get your email from me?
Janis and Emma - Well, the closest thing to that double throated flower that I 've heard of was a friend of mine in Texas who had a bloom that developed two pistils, and for some unknown reason he did not collect the seeds from it...
The bloom is obviously very(!) interesting and has alot of potential, let's hope that the trait is actually going to be carried by any resultant seeds...Good closeups of the sepals should be interesting...,are the sepals usual or unusual in appearence(?)...I wonder if the two throats lead into the usual ovary setup>3 locules with 2 seeds per locule,or if there will be more locules or more seeds per locule...
I have noticed that there seems to be a significantly higher number of interesting 'mutational' features from plants grown in Ohio(!)...I had some people in Ohio that were growing some things out for me,and they always(!) got interesting variations from my seeds that I never saw appear from plants grown in other localities...
I had one girl tell me she thought it was from the pollution(!),and I still don't know if she was kidding or not...Does Ohio have alot of industrial pollution...I never looked into it before...
I have read about some researchers using some trace minerals in much larger amounts than what would be found 'naturally' in the soil to induce some mutations...I wonder if your soil has any unusually high amounts of any particular trace minerals...although,not all of the mutations will be carried by the seeds...
I hope(!) you hand pollinated both of the pistils to make sure(!) they both were adequately pollinated...
zemerson - Yeah, Ambrose Bierce Dictionary...required reading for any 'serious' student of human nature...
TTY'all...

Ron will go out in the AM and get you pics of the sepals. I did not hand polliate, but I didn't even find this flower until after 1 PM today :(
My Dh joked about the nuclear power plant about 75 miles north of here causing my mutations..... he said with our mutant neighbors, it is no wonder we have mutant soil and flowers LOLOL
As for pollution, we have very poor air quality index es here, most summer days people with asthma and the elderly are told to stay indoors. I am right smack in the middle of all the remaining steel mills, and coal mines, a large electrical plant, we have the nuclear plant, and chemical plants down the OH river further south. My uncle is a Lt Sherriff's Deputy, 2nd in charge,in Marshall County WV, and told us that the area we live in, he is an hour south of us,from the power plant down the river past the chemical plants is on the goverment's top 10 predicted terrorists targets. The memo from the FBI (I think from them will have to ask him) was in his hands, so I have no doubt its true. I'd say we are a very large polluting area.
I'll be sure to keep you posted on the progress of any buds from that bloom.
Janis
Edited to say, almost every square mile, probably square inch of the land around here has been strip mined for coal at one time or another. Alot of the ground here is above old mines (we have had farmers lose entire herds of cattle in sink holes) but also on top of the "gob piles" which are a by-product of mining the coal I believe. I have some gob piles down the road a couple miles, will take pics of them There is actually a gob pile on fire underground not far from here (probably less than 10 miles as the crow flies, and no one even local or state or fed govt has any idea how to put it out. If fresh oxygen gets in to it, it will explode, probably taking most of Jefferson County OH with it. Doesn't that sound like fun?? (not)

Janis, I was joking going to ask you if you lived near a nuclear power plant, but I guess it's no joke. You do get some beautiful and unusual blooms one way or another. I will try to save some of the Tie Dye seeds for anyone who wants them, but so far none of my seed pods appear anywhere near to being ripe. Also the tie dye one is very intertwined with Akathoukinounni, so I think any seeds I get will be a mixture of the two. It is amazing how much the pattern can vary on blooms so close togehter.
Susan
Ok, that does it!
I'm for sure flying to Ohio.
Renting a HUGE U-Haul
and I'm gonna get your soil, Janis....lol
thats ok, Emma, while you do that, I"ll be in TX, getting your seeds :)
LOL
Hugs,
Janis
LOLOL you two!!! I just love reading your banter, gives me a chuckle before heading off to work ;)
LOLOL off to work, huh...... hey Emma..... free seeds rofl
Hugs,
