Amen.
Don't ever give up your wonderful wishful thinking!!!!!
Blessings,

Hurrican Rita, just in case....
Having Rita move northward sooner, had me sighing a sign of gratitude for little favors (not much). The wind gusts could still go as high as 105 here. I hope everyone gets out safely. I wish my husband would stay home tomorrow to help with the cattle and plants, but the company he works for is not that understanding. I'll have to see how much I can do tomorrow by my self and hope we get everything done by the time Rita gets here.
I'm worried about my husband's mother, brother and sister. They all plan to stay and ride it out.
now they are saying us....heaven help us all!
I hope you guys in the path are getting out of the area! If anyone wants to come here, we have extra room.
Lord just get out of there you guys and find a safe place far away from there.
Please be SAFE!((((((I am praying for all you guys!)))))))
All I can say is the tears have been flowing for my fellow Texans. We are going to be sheltering some relatives, but have had no success with convincing one couple to leave who live 20 miles from Port Lavaca. They say that because Rita is probably going to make landfall farther up the coast that they aren't leaving. I can't convince them to remember how widespread the damage was when Katrina hit. We have called them every few hours trying to persude them to come here. We keep telling them to remember what happened to Waveland and the residents there. My brother has finally convinced his stepdaughter and family who live 30 miles from Port Lavaca to stay with him. Rita will be huge by the time she makes landfall and I fear that a lot of people still do not understand how far reaching the damage may be. Maybe they didn't watch the Katrina coverage for days and days like we did. My prayers are with everyone and especially my fellow DGers.
(((Hazel!)))
We have almost 30 family members either from Houston or Victoria distributed between two houses here.
My cousin and his family finally arrived from Seabrook to my aunt's house. It took them 13 hours...that is normally a 2 1/2 hour trip.
My uncle also lost his fight with leukemia today. So it is hard to figure out what to focus on at this moment.
I'm so sorry, Kauai. :-(
Oh Kauai, I am so sorry. At the very least you have family there with you. You are supporting them and now they can support you as well.
At this point we are going to stay here instead of driving up to The Woodlands. We are setting up the girls' room to be our safe zone. Charles is going to board up the one window in there. Our one inside closet with no windows is right underneath the furnace in the attic, so we don't want to be sitting there. The girls' room is as far away from the trees as we can get and is somewhat sheltered by our neighbor's house to the east, so it should be a good alternative. I just need to dump at least half of their stuffed animals into the toy box in the living room so there is room for us all! LOL
Marylyn, all those stuffed animals can act as the pillows and matresses they recommend, lol!
LOL There you go!
Kauai, You and your family are in my prayers. Having lost a most beloved uncle 5 months ago I can empathized with your loss.
-------------------------------------------------------
I will also be saying continued prayers for each of you in Rita's sights.
Please, would y'all check in periodically once the storm hits? I, for one, will be worried about each and every one of you as it is. It will be torture once y'all are not able to let us know you and yours are okay.
A good place to store important papers is in a waterproof envelope packet in the freezer section of your refrigerator. Even in a tornado or a fire the heavily insulated interior of the frig nearly always comes through intact tho the outside may take quite a beating.
We've decided that if we go, we'll leave by noon tomorrow. Traffic isn't as bad up my direction, and we know a back way to my dad's place where the traffic won't be too heavy. My husband wants to wait and see. Meanwhile, we've secured everything in the yard (it needed a good cleaning anyway LOL), so it would just be a matter of me securing our animals before we go. I don't think my dad would appreciate me bringing 30 chickens, and I don't see how we'd bring them in a sedan! :-o
Watching tha news, seeing things I aint never done seen before.
Like others here I have friends and relatives in Houston, up and down tha coast.
I am enclosing a pic, collage taken about 11:30 this date.
Heard so much about running out of water and gas. I pulled a hose out front and painted a sign saying free water.
Many have taken us up on that, to drink.
I have seen little boys and girls striped and washed.
Grown people wetting their heads and upper bodies.
Radiators filled. Found a shade tree for one group to replace a water pump.
I noticed several stopping last night, jus getting off tha highway for a while.
Same thing today. many have small children, some jus average folks.

One young man told me how long he had been driving. Commented he had never drove over 5 hours in his life.
My pic shows the traffic here, 60 odd miles out from Houston.
I understand I-45 has traffic backed up 100 miles. Ouch!
_____________
Hey QueenB that lives down tha road from me!
I'm one mile north of the Shell Station on tha East side. Traffic isn't so good here.
It'll shoot up for a few minutes and back to woah.
[edit here]
The eye was going to pass over us, still is but it has drifted a little east & with a little luck may drift more toward Beaumont. Be nice ta get out of that eye & tha dirty side.
Reta is 85 miles accross so theres no way it can miss much

How very generous and thoughtful of you, Charlie! Thank you for sharing that. :)
Hey Charlie,
Whatta guy! DH has taken a couple of trips out to the main road to see what the traffic looked like. We've had a few stop on our subdivision's main road to either picnic or to cool off the car or themselves. We live over here in Rolling Hills behind Ragsdale Springs.
Just got an update on Channel 2...it's showing that it may go in just past Winnie now as a Cat. 4. That jeeest barely puts us on the clean side of the storm.
I've been there to your place...your wife was on duty that day. I bought two rose bushes and some nummy tomatoes. :-)
Thank you - your photos always show your heart :)
Dea
Charlie, what a great guy! I know those people have been so thankful for the angel on the side of the road!!
Gracious ta 'muratory but good ideas seem to catch on.
[Thank you ladies fer such nice comments]
Our neighbors tried to leave and go north. After 4 hours they turned around and came home.
Having seen our water sign she painted one that said, "Do you need water" Stood out in tha sun and held it.
Her grandson had tha water hose.
-
I took him over to our place and got him what they needed to staple it to a couple of stakes. Haha hammer too!
Made that lady smile!
Between tha neighbors and ourselfs, I don't know how many cell phones were charged. Quite a few I think!
Such a small thing to bring so many smiles.

Should anyone wish to watch (Live Ch2 News Houston)

Same as on your TV...............
It took for ever this afternoon to clear the potted plants out of the yard in this lovely 100 degree weather...I'm thankful I wasn't on the freeway. I'm surprised the internet is working...got my first cell phone call to go thru since tuesday afternoon while ago, like to scare the behoovies out of me when it rang...it hasn't been working. now they say its jogging/wobbling to the west again. I'm really beginning to hate that word "wobble".
I just had to explain to my English family that Texas is "BIG". They seem to think Dallas and Houston are about 10 miles apart!! Tried to tell them it might get a bit frisky here and wet but that we are not in physical danger 250 miles from the landfall. I'm not sure they got the message, if the phone lines get cut they are going to panic - kids!! They should know its my job to worry about them, not the other way round!
Charlie what an awesome gesture. You gave me goosebumps. Bless your family and your neighbors!!!!
I'll be heading up to north to my dad's place today to get out of the way of Hurricane Rita. He has Internet, so as soon as I'm able, I'll let you know what's going on. I just hope I have a house when I get back! :-((
Stacey
Stacey, thanks for letting us know. Do be sure to check in when you get there... and again after the storm has passed. What city are you headed for?
Queenb, I hope you have the gas to make it. Most all places are shut down or do not have any gas.
I am still here..I live 35 miles west of Beaumont, Texas.,,very few cars and trucks goes in front of my house which is right off of Highway 90..wind blowing gently and no rain yet...just wish it would come and get all this mess overwith...my hubby and I are riding out the storm..
me too, moodene. I am completely caught up with laundry and housecleaning. I've even cooked meals from scratch!!!!! You KNOW I must be bored if housework is up to date.
can't watch any more news. it just keeps me in a freakout state and I'm no fun to live with that way!
Lol!! I'll bet this is the most cleaning and cooking the TX DG'ers have done in a while! Adam and I finally got everything out of the yard that we could fit into the garage, the rest will have to fend for themselves. Now I'm cleaning and Adam is cooking (I did manage to plant a couple of things this morning though. Thought they'd have a better chance in the ground than in a pot.)
Nery, I'm with you. I just can't watch the news any more, it makes me crazy.
Just everyone please check back in after everything has blown over so that we know everyone's all right. Nadine, does anyone here have your contact information? Do you want ours? Dmail if you do. I assume many, many of us, for quite a large area, will be without power at least part of the time.
We have those pleasant breezes from the east, too, with occasional gusts. They started here about 11am.
Our televisions and radios go off and on depending on who is closest to them. I like to know what is going on, so I turn them on, but my husband can't stand the constant noise and chatter about nothing, so he would prefer them to be off. He's in the back room with the bunnies right now, so I have the tv on again.
Where is "Radar" when we need him the most?
Hunkerin'. LOL
Radar is smart. You don't see him standing out in the rain or anything, do you?
true. and he also has a good fashion sense. can't take that away from him
I'm with ya'll. Hurry up and bring it on! Got north and west windows boarded and everything's packed up. DW keeps the TV on and it drives me crazy so I got outside and walk the empty streets. It is sooooo weird to NOT see or hear any traffic but the sun is still out, puffy cloud bands and occasionally a cool breeze. I figure if I am going to have to stay inside for 8 to 12 hours, I'm getting outside till I have to come in.
PS:Dang, after all that work boarding up the windows here at home and moving everything to the center at my store, something should happen. ;o)
See ya

LOL! Kip, I have to say I've been guilty of feeling the same way, just a little bit, Adam feels that way a LOT, lol!
Our wind is picking up some, and about two hrs ago clouds rolled in so that we are now overcast. It feels like a ghost town here. The intersection at the corner of my back yard is usually very busy and noisy, but not a sound. No cars in the front rolling slowly down the street with the music so loud that it rattles the walls. It's kinda nice!
We lost cable for a short while (which means we lost internet), and then we lost power for a while, but I think those are just oddities, not related to the weather.
