A Little Visitor to my Garden

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Mama & Daddy hummingbird have been enjoying my phlox lately. This little baby of theirs flew into a reflective window and laid stunned on the grass. I leaned down to gently touch him with a straw and he flew off. I'm glad he was okay--I love hummingbirds.

what a cool thing for you to be able to see up close. we all see them plenty when they are flying, but i've counted myself lucky to see them perch once in a great while. thanks for sharing. debi

When my feeder just outside my front door runs out, I have one little hummer who bangs on the door to get my attention. It's like he is saying, we need attention out here!! He's way cool. It's always the same one as he is a peculiar color.

An eager feeder? Good for you! I'm just glad I found him & not a local cat....

I think maybe the hummers have left. They were here yesterday, but didn't see any today. I hope not, I love them.

The chill of autumn is very apparent here in the mornings, and birds have been passing by on their way to Africa over the Pyrenese for some while now.
When do they usually return to you?

Our robins return in March and often shiver in the late snow. Most of the birds are back by early April.
