Changes Part II

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Hi Molly,
Love seeing what you have going on so far on your new place.
Your drawing looks good.
The prices on the septic tank seems real low too me but maybe down south, prices are better. But get the best deals you can.
AND
You need to be there for everything possible. Believe me. If you are there supervising, they will do a better job and you can have them do it right by telling them what they are doing wrong. I always have supervised these kinds of things and they hate it, but it is your money so........
By the way, how much lawn are you putting in? What type of grass seed are you thinking about? I don't know what grows there so tell me.
Because I can maybe send you some good grass seed from work (remember I work at a grass seed company in the Research dept.). I can stuff a few flat rate boxes full of grass seed for you maybe. The grass seed from work is much better than what you buy at the store. We breed the good stuff, lol!
Just let me know if you want some.
Anyways, here is a picture of 'Pink Frosty' from you. Doesn't it look good? Is kind of cool that I am growing something from Florida! I am kind of surprise that it is is blooming so late but the weather has been pretty mild lately.
Keep up the good work, hehe.

Molly, wow, you are on the fast track!!. So when do they actually put in the MH? Seems everything is going good for you. Lemonade, huh, when you get there for good, you can sip that lemonade from your deck.

The Black Knight Butterfly bush is still yours. I haven't put it in the ground, but think I might "heel" it in if our weather holds. Just let me know when you want it.

Way to go, I am so looking forward to pics when you get moved. And it will be closer for a visit!!

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Good Morning all, I got away from the computer early last night. I was so sleepy, fell asleep in front of the TV in bed.

Casey, I think I like that wildflower bed idea. Where would you suggest I place it on the property? Up by the road in front of my little pine forest, I want to put Mexican Buttercups (golden yellow), Mexican Petunias (purple/blue) and Mexican Heather. Right now there is a lot of pricker weeds growing that I want to over come with prettier things. In that area, the ruellias and all can spread to their hearts content. I have received packets of wildflowers from one of my garden clubs, but they never really took off much. Any special seeds you have in mind? BTW, I am watching you. I saw you are getting a house and property and moving away from the desert. I'm looking forward to watching your progress too. A generator was a dream, and certainly with water being pumped out with electric, I will need one in the future. But hey, my neighbor (of the equine type) have a well with a huge hand pump for filling their trough. What a great idea. I should get one, or borrow theirs when the power goes down. Do you know how to say borrow in horse language?

M5, that mound system doesn't seem like a great idea, what with the expense and the short life span. Sure glad no one is making me do that. The septic won't be too terribly deep, only a 900 gallon tank then the drain field of rocks/stone.

Darius, yes I was ecstatic over hearing the total prices on these items. There are a lot of natural springs in the ground up in that area. Most wells only need to go down 60-80 feet. That keeps the cost down for that part of it. I got several prices for these and they were all within 500 of each other. In the end I chose someone who works in my county and DO NOT have a 6-12 week waiting list.

Bonnie, the mobile home gets transported after the well and septic are in place. The date the dealer gave me was 10/25, for insurance policy effective date, but at this point, that is not realistic. Probably closer to 11/5 or so. I have heard the word "heel over?" several times recently and from Darius too. Not sure what that means. But is the B'fly bush small enough to send to me? I have some other colors of these I will be potting up to take up there on my next trip. One more wouldn't take up that much room. That way they can all go in the same beds together.

Carol, Your Frosty Pink is lovely. I am so happy you got a bloom before your cold weather sets in. Mine also bloomed this last week, but just a few, after not blooming for a few months. As to the grass question, yes, I do want to have some lawn, but no familiar with grasses other than St Augustine sod. I have the question posted in the Florida Forum on what kinds of grass seeds for zone 9. I would love some seed after I find out what's the best kind. You are such a doll!!!!!!

Well, got to get to work. It will be light soon and have lots to do.

Molly

Just a quick line before I go see what'sup in coffee,,, we have no choice in Wisconsin what kind of septic you get, the county dictates whether you can have a conventional or a mound. Depends on the water table and we didn't have to go over 50" feet, and our well guys said we had a "killer" well, so I guess you can't have both!

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

I am not sure yet where to get the seeds or what type yet. I took this picture while on vacation and just love it. I did find a couple of places on the net for wild flower seeds. One is Bay Farms in Bay City, MI. From what I was told they harvest all their seeds by hand so I am thinking it is a smaller operation but not sure yet. I would rather buy them from a mom and pop type of place that does it because they love flowers then a large operation that has so many fields and overhead that its become a corporation. I am think of doing wild flowers either in the very front of my property near to the road so if I need to give directions I can say turn at the wild flowers. LOL Or I want to set up an area on the side closer to the back as it transitions into the wooded area. I did receive from a friend in Penn a 1 lb. package of shade wild flowers. I have a small area (maybe 20X50) that the under brush was cleared out but the tree canopy is still quite dense. It isn' t really visable from the house. I was playing with the idea of placing some of those there, but afraid if I want to turn that area in a secret type of garden later for hostas and ferns that the wild flowers will not allow it. LOL.

I get all excited when I see a new post come up on this thread. I am just amazed at all the work you have done. Wonderful job.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Molly, the butterfly bush is fairly small. I would say about a foot. If you want me to mail it to you, just say the word, and I will pack it up and it will be on the way. Just let me know.

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Molly,
Just read this whole thread and was so happy to see your initial hardship turn into such joy and excitement. I will be watching for your updates and progress and looking forward to more pictures of your beautiful property as you get settled.

Molly its a good thing that MH is going to be there soon. At the rate you are getting plants up there you may run out of room sooner then you planned. LOL

DH thinks I am as excited for every milestone you reach as I am for us in the process of our own property.

Good Day Molly!

Apparently the older, in the ground septics only cost about $10K to have put in. From what I was told, the newer ones are the mound ones (and the only ones they do here now) and cost about $20K. We do have green streaks in the grass coming from ours which are the leach lines, which for now go into the field that will later be the home to whatever critters we end up putting back there. Our actual tank is out about 25 feet from the house and I know this for sure because it was pumped the morning we signed the papers. When we went by the house, we had a new 2 foot circle of dirt, sand and gravel. LOL

While I am here, I have a bone to pick with you. I see it is your turn for Darius already and I am sure I had dibs on her! So what if you can offer warm weather!! LOL

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Chele, you have such a way of just making me smile. Thanks. Any one heard from Molly yet??

I have a close friend who got hit kind of hard but everyone is okay. No power and they lost a couple trees that thankfully fell away from the house and cars.

'Chele, you are too funny! I just might show up and surprise you for a few days!

Molly is fine, lots of yard/plant damage, trees down, no electricity but has cellular service as long as her car battery holds out to charge the phone.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Thank you Darius. Do you feel your arms getting longer from being pulled??

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL, Carat... sometimes I do!

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Well if you feel a tug on your nose that would be me since the property is in the middle of them.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL, I should put my DG friends in a Bidding War for me since I seem to be in demand!

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

I got $50.00 to start.....

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL, MG!

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Darius,

Why don't you just split your time with lots of DG'ers all year? That way you can travel and get free room and board....don't have to find any place to live. lol

Glad to hear Molly and many others are doing ok after Wilma socked them again. :-)

Donna

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

I suggested a Darius Round Robin, but no one responded, lol.

Think a couple of weeks in January in Iowa sound good? And then back again in May for the IA RU, and GOB RU??

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

January in Iowa sounds about as attractive as January in Wisconsin. Brrrrrrrr. Don't think she's gonna fall for that!

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

UMMM< and where does Vegas fit into the schedule???

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

I'm thinking after me in January, she will need to defrost for a while.

Then after you, Joy in NY? ROFL

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL, actually I AM considering a summer/fall visiting DG friends all over the country... as long as they are cat-friendly. My cat is old and cranky but I cannot just throw her away. Can't do it in winter in case she has to stay in the camper top covered back of my mini-truck!

mg, Thanks but I think I will skip Iowa in January!

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Chicken

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Hey if Darius is a chicken I think we should call her a silkie chicken. Gosh, that picture that was posted is still making me smile. They look like Phyllis Diller. ROFL

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Geesh Casey, are you trying to snag Darius too?? I can see this is going to get ugly. I'll be back in a bit. I am going to go file all my fingernails into nice points so I will be ready for the cat fight. LOL

MG! You stop driving up the price! If you don't want her, you can't bid. LOL Don't ask Darius for her opinion. :)

Won't Molly be shocked to see her post. hahaha

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

BS, I do want her!

Now get you butt over to your own thread and see our chicken art.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

'Chele, you are SO bad!

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Chele, just because you have 6 girls doesn't make you tougher then me. Well okay, it does. But yeah, and I am pulling the trump card is that I am needy and a newbie.

:::swish.swish.swish:::::::::
Filing my own nails.....

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

I'm putting my money on Michele.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

MG.... I wasn't filing for the cat fight. I filing to help hammer the nails in the door quicker and easier before she gets here.

The woman drives a Bobcat for christ sakes. I aint no fool.

Love ya Darius but it ain't happening....................

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

???

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

ROTFLOL

Darius, when will you be here? :)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I am over ridden with guilt. I will play nice. I will use her up and wear her out before November ends then you can have her. LOL

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

What a load of BS, BS! Over ridden with guilt, my aunt fannie!

I asked first, so I get her first, and you might also note, I'm the only one that has put my money where your mouth is!

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

LOL, Okay. She will need a thawing by that time anyways. Vegas is nice for thawing quickly. But only in the winter... In the summer you don't thaw you evaporate.....quickly...

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

(batting my eyelashes) I would like to evaporate in Nevada for about a month. LOL

Crossville, TN

Darius...you can come by here...just to relax and "sit a spell". of course if you INSIST on doing a bit of handy man type stuff...I can oblige you. Jo

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Okay, Chele, come on down. But either finish filing those nails flat or wait until they grow out some.

I will be waiting here until Jan 2007

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

07??? Don't you have any plans for 06??

Jo, are you elbowing in now too?
