I've read, with interest, other threads about lasagna gardening.
I'm running out of room for my hostas and have concluded that the place I was going to put new ones is too sunny. I have an area under lilac bushes. There is nothing else of value growing there - just a lot of sedum, forget-me-nots and violets. The thought of pulling out all those plants makes me tired. Would this be a place where I could layer the newspaper and bring in more soil on top or should I pull out what I can first? I know that I'll have to be careful about how much soil I add so as not to change the level for the lilacs too much.
I look forward to seeing your thoughts.

a question about lasagna gardening
Can you mow under the lilac and then rake it out, trying to catch some of the roots of the plants you want out? If you put down16 layers of good wet newspaper, it should hold them back, but it will be easier if you have as much as possible mowed down
Not enough space to mow. But I'll pull out what I can and compost it.
or maybe use hand clippers
