Ron,
Look at this one.
'Toukan' with Blue Streak

That blue streak is neat. Is it on all the blooms//

Susan

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Janis - Yes,it sure looks like one of the stamens turned into a regular colored petal...

Moby - that blueish one looks like something like an Izumi or a Yamatoji...
The number of spokes is a variable mostly amongst highly cultivated plants selected out for larger flowers...the smaller yojiro usually only have 5 or 6 spokes, whereas the larger yojiro types, like the Mt.Fuji often have at least 6,7 or more spokes per bloom...in the 'wild' a larger flower is more susceptible to being eaten by herbivores or otherwise physically damaged ,although a larger flower is usually easier for pollinators to locate...each size has certain advantages and disadvantages in nature, and the advantage that is the most survivalistic,is the one most often encountered...The large flowered JMG's exist because people take care of them and do what they can to ensure the continuation of the types, but in a 'wild' situation, the larger flowers would not last long, and reversion to a smaller flower by natural selection would follow relatively quickly...

Laurie Nice color you got there out the "PF" seeds...

Gail - Interesting that your Ipomoea batatas put out such nice blooms...maybe some hand pollination might get you some seeds... I think you are right...the little Blue one is Ipomoea hederacea...
by the way,...Do you take better pictures when you smoke... Marlboros(?)...

Kevin - Very interesting Ipomoea macrorhiza you have there,as the leaves look like there is more trilobing present than on most specimens that I have seen of this species...Are all of the leaves on this plant having a high degree of tri-lobing ot just the earlier produced leaves nearest the base of the plant(?)...put a few seeds aside for me...
The liitle blue one from your workplace looks to be an I.hederaceae ...
The yellow on the I.alba seems to be lost when the light is too strong and direct...the ribs still showing the yellow taken with the flash are the outside ribs to the right, and the petals to the left where the light is hitting it at more of a wide angle...less reflected(?) light by the corolla(?)...

Emma - I can onlysuggest that you decide what is 'lavender',as there seems to be lavender pink,as well as lavender blue in the accepted definitions of the color lavender...thecolors 'plum' and 'lilac' are also subject to interpretation...The 'Joys Cabal' was a facetious play on words after you mentioned the 'huge' white throats expanding out ...similar to the 'JC'...thought you might be 'joining' the 'J' 'cabal'...
the "Sunrise Serenade" looks like it is from a first flush from the plant as it is still single and the petals don't seem to have the very thin base and the more rounded upper petal...similar to a 'lollipop' looking petal...
The "Shiun"(note spelling) that Sandy has does look like one of the ones you got,but remember that very similar looking flowers can come out of different types...
The Toukan with the Blue streak duly noted...along with the white flaked with the rosy throat...

TTY'all...

HEY!,nut4spuds...there weren't any of those in the box when I got it! But about a thousand packs of 'stevia'.
My Blue silk vary from day to day-with more or less blue.Lately I have been getting the thin stripe of blue as has Emma.
Take a pic of the sepals and leaves of both, for comparison.

check your d-mail

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

nut4spuds - My feedback would be that the Blue Silk on the right is too atypical to use for a valid comparison of the flower colors...A more typical colored Blue Silk would make for a better A/B comparison...

Susan,
The 'Toukan' with Blue Streak is on same vine, and the only have one I have growing.
I thought that was interesting.

Ron,
I thought you might be messing with me, but wasn't sure about the 'Joys Cabal'
But guess what! That just might be what I call it....lol
I like that name *-*

Nikki
Great comparison shot of your Akatsuki no Tsuyu & Blue Silk.
They do look very similar
Anyone know what 'Tsuyu' is translated?
My Japanese/English Dictionary doesn't have it listed,
Closest word [which means nothing, but wanted to share]
Tsuya: (gloss,shine)
Tsuyadashi: (polishing)
Tsuyakeshi (no): (matt)

Ron,
The 'Sunrise Serenade'
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1758276
was from the first blooms.
Is this one the one you are referring to 'White Flaked with Rosy Throat'?
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1758281
This vine is also the one I was mentioning to you earlier that I
grew last year as well. They are blooming like crazy right now.

Have many more first blooms today.

nuts4spuds, they are great!!

Ron, thanks for the confirmation on the double. Appreciate it, I was pretty sure, but wanted you to take a look :)

Here are some of yesterdays blooms, I don't have my cam today.. and of course, my rose or chocolate, whichever is is, produced an untorn bloom as big as my hand today LOLOL
I'll hae pic later, my boy has the cam taking pics of my moms blooms (I get her seeds) and my sisters kids blooms (I get their seeds too)

Here is a puzzle...... When this opened yesterday I thought it was finally a Scarlet O'Hara. Went out today and looked closer.... its an I. nil.

Any ideas on who it is?

Ok, these were labeled double blue picotee when I got them The pic shows the actual color.

Anyone seen these? Do I have a double purple picotee?

It is NOT a pink or red, I have the only pink I planted right next to it.

Ronnie,
You are too funny. Don't worry you'll get some of my seeds,
and you too have many that I'd like to have.
Do you know the name of this one?
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1758982
I love that color.
I too have lots of problems with many of my blooms splitting.
Most of the time it is from my stupid chain-link fence
with the petals getting hung up on it - but not always.
I'm having Jerry build LOTS of trellis for next year.

Janis,
Scarlet O'Hara IS I.nil.
Your bloom does look like SO to me, but let Ron confirm that.
Pretty bloom too.
And your Japanese Single Picotee IS a Lavender-Purple.
I love that color too. Don't know that I've seen that shade in that particular vine.
Nice!
Love, Love, Love this one - Wow!
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1759012
Your Milky Way Picture is GREAT.
Very Nice Photo.
I have some blooming like this as well,
BUT, I can't see the 'shimmer' in my pictures.
Still looking for instruction book on my camera....lol

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Emma, I think this one

http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1758982

is 'Heian no Izumi' (Ipomoea nil)

http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/67021/index.html
Unfortunatully it did not bloom from me this year it was crushed by the tree fall earlier this spring, the photo is from last years crop...

Hi Dee,
Thanks for the ID.
Your bloom was a beauty - hate it that you lost that one.

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Emma, just wanted to show you the difference on ONE vine I have it isolated from the others, but showing 2 "kinds" of blooms, one with much more white edging than the other :)
