I need to kill a holly bush that keeps coming up from a stump, anyone know of a surefire way? homemade?
thankyou carol
anyone know of a strong homemade herbicide?
Try shooting pure vinegar into roots with hyperdermic??
Just a idea.

Poured a cup a bleach all over a huge nasty weed (I have no idea what kind it was) that had a root crown that was like 3" across. I couldn't dig it out it went so deep and I obviously couldn't just pull it out. It kept coming back from the root. I was desperate. It died. I pulled it out easily.
Or pour gas on it and light it on fire . . . I like fire.
Oh! I forgot to mention, the chlorine evaporates and the rest of the bleach eventually breaks down into salts. So no worries about polluting your soil. The surrounding bed has gown in around where it used to be. It didn't harm anything around it (as long as your carefull not to splash).
I have a Jerry Baker book and if you pour alcohol on a plant when the sun is out it will kill it. Good luck.
alcohol - noooooooooooo unless you mean rubbing! The holly bush will no look so bad if you drink the alcohol.
The gas will work but nothing else will grow there for a while. beach works, and salt works but salt will hurt the soil in the area. I have been told drilling holes in the base and adding a compost pile around the stump will make it rot out and keep light out so it will die at the same time. This is my plan when my Elm dies out to add the compost right on top for a year or two and really turn it into something great for the garden.
A sure fire way (but will render the soil unuseable for some time) is to collect cigarette butts from smoking friends. Soak them in water a day or two, and apply the liquid.
Yelp
1 quart listerine
1 large box epsom salt
1 guart Coors beer
mix all to gether and spray everywhere. Kills Misquito, athids and spider mites I know.

Great information on killing unwanted trees. I had some bushes cut on the side of my house this spring and of course they are coming right back. It looks awful and am at wits end about the entire yard situation right now. I am going to try the bleach suggestion. Who would have ever thought? We have had a terrible summer for flowers and I am in the process TODAY of cleaning out all my beds. What a chore. Maybe next year my yard can be pretty once again. Thanks again for the bleach suggestion. Can't wait to see if it works!
I know you all think my brain got caught up in Ophelia when she came thru and it had spun my brain around. I read the thread as homemade bug killer not wood killer.
There is only boring holes in wood and pouring icecream salt on it that I know of. Make sure you get the salty good and wet and keep it wet for a few days.
I'll try not to be in such a hurry when reading the board from now on.

Lavina... I liked your recipe. Do you mix the Coors or drink it? LOL
Right now I would drink it. LOL
Per the baker book I have it really works. But don't know why just coors beer seems any beer would do.
And since I'm originally from Tallapoosa, GA you can probably go over there and get some good home brew that would work better than Coors.
