That photo of the two Blue Silk blooms side by side is *incredible*. The way the petals flow, like splashing water -- if that were my photo, I'd have it enlarged and hang it on my wall.
Gourd, I love your flowers, but often when I open up these gorgeous pictures, the background leaves are sharp but the foreground flowers are a little fuzzy. Either there's something wrong with the way I'm seeing the pictures, or maybe your camera has a minimum focusing distance. I have rolls of (non-digital) photos that I thought would be great, but I was inside the minimum focusing distance, so the subject is fuzzy. The minimum distance should be listed in the owner's manual for either the camera or the lens (if they were originally separate). You may have to be, say, at least four feet away from the flowers you're photographing in order to get them to be sharply focused in the picture. I really want to see those flowers!

Morning Glorys 2005 #16
Dawn,
Thank you for the compliments, yes, I'm not too sure how to work this camera, Fuji Finepix. The Joyce Cobb I have are more white in the center than the ones I've seen. Will post the first photo I took, they are still blooming and I will try to see if I can get a better photo.
Thanks for the tips on the distance, hopefully I can figure it out.
Here is the one I posted in another thread.
Luvs, your blooms are all beautiful.
I always thought you didn't feed morning glories, but I'm wondering if any of you do feed them to get such lush foliage and multiple blooms? I'm wondering if that could be part of the problem I have in getting them to bloom.

I've found that giving a diluted shot of fertilizer every now and then to JMG's is good for them. I used about one-quarter strength of Miracle Grow. I have some others that are growing where we used to have some manure bags laying, and apparently the rain leached some of the nutrients out into the soil, because the vines are all lush and green with huge leaves and vigorous growth, but not the first flower. :-(
Ronnie,
GREAT PHOTOS - The bloom from PF is another beauty.
Both Antoinette's and your 'Joyce Cobb' Blooms are incredibly beautiful.
Joseph,
I know a little bit about 'Joyce Cobb', but we should save this one for Ron to answer.
In fact, I'd like to hear more about it myself.
Mine must have reverted back to Milky Way??? that I grew this year. They didn't look the first thing like 'Joyce Cobb'.
Stacey,
So, I will assume that the seeds I sent you of 'Joyce Cobb', will not produce anything like what Antoinette has that is amazing---
that I would like seeds of....PLEASE, Antoinette.
Would like some of Ronnie's too.
I would like to enjoy these blooms next year. Really a great MG.
Emma
Do you have a photo of your 'Joyce Cobb', Emma? I'm curious as to what you mean by looking like 'Milky Way'.
Stacey - Some people may think of a flower 'reverting' by the return of more color towards the throat, and others think of it as the color lessening towards the outer edge...so that the pigment would be reduced to just a touch of color in the folds...
Emma - I have tried to stear clear of the origins of the Ipomoea purpurea strain with the light area of the throat expanded outward...and I think you know wny...Grab 'him' by the collar and choke the truth(!) out of 'You Know Who'...
Supposedly Joyce Cobb came about while ditch jumping and was "found" is that what I hear?
Stacey,
Yes I do have photos, but I don't have them organized yet.
I'll be working on my photos today, so I'll locate one and post it for you.
Ron,
I needed a good laugh to start my day.
Good Idea!
Emma
Ron, so which do you think is the direction that my flowers are taking? I thought in this case it was the darker reverting to the original color, since most I. purpureas tend to be blue or purple. Was I wrong in this assumption?
QueenB, I'm going to try your method next Spring. I think it is too late for me this year.
Breezy - "Supposedly Joyce Cobb came about while ditch jumping and was "found" is that what I hear?"
Well, who can be sure of what you have heard, but you...but I will say that the 'rumours' I heard wre that 'first' it was 'created'...and now it was suppossedly 'found'....seems like the history is getting clearer...I suggest you ask the person you traded with in China...as perhaps a MG person from that(!) country would be the best source to clarify the origins of the cultivar in question...I do agree that there is some 'ditching' and 'jumping' about going on though...
Gourd - Keeping them covered would tend to increase selfing and yes that may help...I personally think the JC/Rebecca 'debate' is a moot point...
Stacey - Remember what I relayed to you about the colors and reversion when we were talking about the "Blue Moonflower'...I think yours are indeed reverting to the corolla with more(!) pigmentation towards the throat...and I would 'venture' to say that if yours are selfing and not too cross pollinated by the other purps with the white from the throat showing the interesting expansion, that the offspring of yours will increasingly look just like 'regular' purps...
People just don't want to 'give up' on this thread...time to 'crack the whip' Emma...Oh,I forgot(!),you just got high speed...just too(!) bad(!) for those who still don't...you'll just have to move to a more 'civilized' area...

Ron,
You are hilarious!
Do you even KNOW how long it was before we could get high-speed to our area? My kids continuously reminded me how our little town was too far behind the times.
But, hey, we just got a 'Chili's' too....woowoo
Ron, I believe I was told by Larry who gave me the seed, and by his friend who was selling on ebay that he and his 90's something mother were ditch looking when they found this, dug the plant up and saved seeds and grew out again and it supposedly was true following year, It was named after someone I was sure thinking it was his Mother!!! That is the story I got, I didn't trade anyone in China for these seeds.................
Breezy - I didn't mean to infer that you(!) got the 'JC' seeds from your(!) trades from China....and I am familiar with the story from NC...I will re-phrase my'suggestion'...Show the pictures of your'JC' to some knowledgable Chinese MG people,if you get the oppurtunity, and see if they recognize it, and how long(!) they are aware of that being available in China...you just might find that the history pre-dates NC...I too have noticed that a number of e-bay sellers are fond of exploiting the 'emotional impact' of some aspect of elder and/or deceased relatives connected to their wares....an old tried and true marketing technique...
I happen to enjoy the Ipomoea purpurea strain whatever continent it originated from...
OH I misunderstood, I know you knew that I had gotten some seeds from China, and I thought you thought that is where I got mine LOL geesh there were a lot of thoughts in that sentence! I did do a swap from China and "someone in NC" also got some of my seeds LOL
I am sure there are alot of ebayers that aren't exactly honest, just out to make a BIG buck, which is why I keep my things now mostly on my "former scifstore" I feel safer that way. I would also love to know its ORIGINAL origin.....
Oh well.............
I am back from the Lake and the weekend holiday so have just gone through the thread. There are so many, many beauties here and I am so glad to see them again. I do hope that in all our "Education" we don't forge to have fun with these flowers.
Sure wish I could do some ditch jumping myself.....
I have some natives in my area that are in field down from me. They are more of a Pink but I can't get out there right now to photograph them. I have a feeling they are growing where an old homstead use to stand and they are from some old type. I also see some that are more of a purple but they are just to far away to tell. I will try to get hubby to get a photo if we can see them in the evening, the mornings it is to dark to photograph anything.
Dee,
Oh yes, please do try to get photos.
I just love natives.
I even drug a wild MG plant back with me that I dug up when I went to Galveston a few weeks ago. It is growing like crazy - no blooms yet, and will probably spit seeds everywhere...lol
Yeah, sure hope I stay 'spry enough' to do ditch jumping when I am in my 90's...
LOLOLOLOL........................ I hope I am too, I can honestly say my grandma is 87 years old and gets around amazingly well....... hope I follow in her steps!!
