D-Mail upgrade

Valinda, CA(Zone 10a)

Dave, the long list of D-mails gets difficult. I use yahoo mail and they have a way of letting one make folders and moving messages into those folders.

It does not appear that Yahoo allows nested folders. I wonder if that is a real limitation of the system or an artificial one.

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Hi George, you say that Yahoo lets you make folders but not nested folders.
Regardless of whatever that means, I support you in what I think you are asking for.
Now let's hope Dave can figure that out.

Valinda, CA(Zone 10a)

Nested folders are one folder inside of another. For instance a folder for roundups and then folders within that for specific roundups.

Glad to see that you are here to help me on this. Your interest always helps to get an idea accomplished.

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

We are all equal in the eyes of Dave. Look how quickly you got your wish with the local time feature without my help. It is input from all of us that has made this website as perfect as it is.
Sorry I couldn't think of anything funny to say this late in the evening.
(Insert mandatory LOL here).

Ulrich is right, I don't regard the person of men.

I love the idea, though. Let's plan on it! George, if this isn't done say within a few days, please remind me again.

I like this idea too. A folder (or nest, if you will) for roundup, trading, friends, or whatever the nest needs.

It will make it a lot easier to sort and find a specific email on a specific subject.

YES!!

That'll be so much easier!

LOVE IT!!

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

I love it too, would make things much easier :)

Well, a good attempt was made today at the folders. I'm not 100% happy with it but I'm "fairly" content. Give it a try and see what you think.

I didn't create the mail system with an eye toward categorization so this is somewhat shoe-horned in. No nested folders.

Trying to play with this during lunch. I created a folder, but don't understand how to get the desired e-mails into the folder. It says I haven't "copied" any into the folder. How do I do that?

(Thanks for working on this Dave, I've been wishing we had a way to organize these!)

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

I just tried it. From what I have observed, all D-mails remain in my Inbox and can be additionally placed in one folder. I can move a D-mail from one folder to another, or even move it back to my Inbox (in essence, 'delete it' from a folder). Hmm. I'm not sure how useful that would be for me, but it certainly allows someone to have all related D-mails grouped within a specific folder.

Personally, I'd like to be able to process all the D-mails in my Inbox to move them *OUT* of there and into folders. Perhaps an Archive box could be added for permanent storage of all the D-mails, in lieu of the Inbox, so none of them are ever 'lost' from being placed in a wrong folder? Not sure how to better describe that.

It's a nice start, Dave. :)

Donna, how did you move an e-mail to the folder?

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

Once you've created a folder, go to the D-mail you want to move and scroll down to the bottom. There will be a box that says "Move this email" and beneath it is a pull-down menu whose first selection is Inbox. Use the arrow to change the folder selection, then select Go.

P.S. It's just above the "Reply" box.

I like it, but would like it better if the emails didn't just copy into a folder. leaving a copy in the inbox.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I'd have to agree - if it's technically feasible, it would be much more helpful to be able to "clean out" my inbox by moving each message to a specified folder. (Says me, who has 2700-some odd messages in my *real* email inbox, where I could get rid of them if I so chose...just call me a packrat.)

But even a packrat has limits, and I have nearly 2,500 messages that have piled up in my D-mail box, too. Ugh.

Now, granted, I RARELY have to think about any of the old messages, or sort through them. But that sure is a staggering pile o'messages, and it grows every day.

Camilla, GA(Zone 8a)

I would like a way to get the old mails out of the inbox... I don't wanna folder them..unless they get out of the inbox..

It's a great start Dave and thanks.

Just a couple of things I've noted:

1. I agree on the inbox-would be VERY NICE to have them disappear into the folder instead of all staying on the inbox page. The downside is if you've got 'selective' memory LOL, might have to search through all your folders to find something. But, you can always use the DG search feature. Now you can just scroll down until you find it.

2. I often cross file some of my emails and it is not possible as it stands. It can only be listed in one file. Not a big deal.

3. When I try to sort by header in my folders, it ALWAYS takes me back to the inbox page.

I thought it was pretty user friendly. But, that's probably because I've got an extensive folder list in my Outlook. Overall, it's a great improvement.

Thanks again, Janet

Okay, all those issues should be handled now!

Most notably: when you move something into another folder, it's now a true move and it won't show up on your Inbox anymore. Give it a try!

woohooo! doin' the hap-hap-happy dance here ;o)

Next step is to make mass-moves possible. That's next.

(Hmmm...dave says above "I didn't create the mail system with an eye toward categorization so this is somewhat shoe-horned in."

That "shoe-horn" thing...uhhhh, er, that's a GOOD thang, right? ;>)

Shoe.

I played with alittle and I like it. Thanks Dave.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I also noticed the possibilitiy of creating folders earlier today. Sucessfully created a couple and copies messages, but like several of those above, I would prefer to MOVE the messages into the folders rather than copying them if that becomes possible. Will also go back and play with those folders some more when I get time.

Dave, ypu did qujite a job of shoehorning.

I have done that a lot also. First with hardware. Needed more circuits on an already full board so had to add some newer circuits that accomplished the job of several existing circuits and then added my new circuits. Re-wirewrapped the board and accomplished what the original designer had declared impossible.

I code and old xBase accounting system. It is much easier to shoehorn new code, just hit enter a few times to make room. Still it is a challenge to get the new functionality in without disrupting what was working;

Glad to see the reception that this change is getting.

Hi Dave ... Looks great. Got a question, though. If I mess it up ... you gonna straighten it out? *smile* Just teasing! You've got a great site. Thanks for always wanting to improve it. ... Elaine

Question please....as she whispers

I created a folder, but how do I get the email into it? I tried dragging like my own puter, but it didn't work. Don't forget I'm not to literate in the puter department. lol

Donna,

TuttiFrutti said it like this;

"Once you've created a folder, go to the D-mail you want to move and scroll down to the bottom. There will be a box that says "Move this email" and beneath it is a pull-down menu whose first selection is Inbox. Use the arrow to change the folder selection, then select Go.

I haven't even tried it yet myself. Need to befor the day is out.

I have 11 folders and have moved 47 D-mail.

I did one for needs feedback so I can go back and leave everyone feedback and then I can move them into trades done.

This is too cool. The only thing is I am going to wait till I can move more than 1 to do anymore as that takes some time. I am tired but not of my new toy. I will love this.

THANKS DAVE.
And George for asking.......

Blessings,

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh man, I didn't even think of doing that Molly. Thank you so much for your help.

Dave, thank you also for this wonderful new item you have created again for us. I had so many emails from the CA RU and they were creating a lot of space between emails I wanted to keep track of.

Donna

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Yes, that was easy to set up the folder. I did 1 and moved 2 dmails. Goodness gracious, I have over 20 pages of d-mail to deal with now.

This will definately take some time. Let's see, when the gardening is done? No wait, I live in the tropics, that ain't gonna happen. I will make the time to use this great new option.
