cucmbers and insecticides

Woonsocket, RI(Zone 6b)

Does anybody have any experience with growing cucumbers and having a bug infestation. Will using an insecticide on them influence the bees pollinating the bloosoms?

Do you know what kind of insects they are? If you have chewing insects, I would check out Safers Insectical soap or look into a systemic one. Many of the general chemical sprays will kill almost everything in sight.

Well, since it's food, don't use systematic unless it's labled for vegetables. Try Sevin, often and plenty.

Please don't apply any insecticide while they are blooming. You will kill not only the honey bees that are pollinating your plants, but other visiting pollinators and they will take the poison back to the hive and can wipe out the entire colony. If you must, wait until late dusk when the insects have returned home, and apply very lightly, a little goes a long way.
