Gail - you are absolutely right, the thrips do go outside of the flowers, when traveling to the inside of another flower...

The predatory mites would know where to find them, thanks for that reference, Ron, I'll look it up!

Here is Mount Fuji Pale Purple, which in real life appears to be more blue than purple.

That is awesome Joseph. That looks alot more like Fuji No Sora. I want mine to bloom :((

Emma,

I found a very nice gift in my mail box today. Thank you very, very much. I would give you hugs and kisses if you were here.

Looking at the pictures that Ron posted, I don't think I have Royal Robe. The one I have has a darker blue than Early Call 'blue', but not as dark as the one Ron has. Well, the seeds are forming. We'll see what I, no, we have when you plant it.

Again, thank you very much for your generosity. I can't wait for the weekend to plant them.

The color variations are so amazing. I wonder if there has just been so much crossing, even in Japan, that the TRUE strains are not as easy to get? It just seems that so many of us have something so different than what we thought, or the package says it should be. I really want my Fuji No Sora and Hama No Yuki that I got from Japan to bloom so I can see how they turn out :)

Joseph, you know how much I admire your MG's.
Ronnie yours keep getting prettier :)
Gogli, the same goes for yours.

Emma,

Quoting:

this one?

I missed that question way up there ^^^^^ and the answer is yes they did.
The one with more pink/fuschia was later in the afternoon, tho :)

Janis "The color variations are so amazing. I wonder if there has just been so much crossing, even in Japan, that the TRUE strains are not as easy to get? It just seems that so many of us have something so different than what we thought, or the package says it should be...."

Getting pretty close(!)...

It looks like the Royal Robes that I posted here

http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1699383

are showing a similar mid-petal 'corona' like the one you posted here

http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1696438

the picture of the ones I got are not as clear of a shot, and I can obviously see that the color on mine are darker, but it looks like there is a strong resemblance in the overall pattern, except for the darker coloration on the ones I got...

Joseph - I like that color of the Fuji you got there...it looks like what I wou;ld call a lavender-blue...I have seen this offered as Fuji no Murasaki this year on the primax site...I know murasaki means purple in Japanese, and the term murasaki is usually associated with a darker purple...which is the color that Sakata has depicted the Fuji no Murasaki in the past on their website and on their packages...I think the same type of mis-labeling,mis-packaging and all other types of product presentation errors occur in Japan like like they do here...and the 'products' offered can be subject to changes that are 'beyond' the 'expectations' and types of 'rigorous' quality control that might be 'envisioned' to be present in 'japanese' sources...I'm not saying that there is no quality control,I'm just saying that the quality controls can vary, possibly more than any consumer would like to 'think is there'...
I 've heard from people who've had direct communications with the companies in Japan and I heard that "Sakata says this...and Takii said that..." and it doesn't matter to me what they say about their own quality control...,when the product I get is different than their description,I as the consumer know what I am actually(!) seeing(!),and if what I see(!) is different than what the company 'claims' is there, then I know to take whatever they may say with alot of the proverbial grains of salt...What(!) company, if in receipt of an inquiry, as to the standards of their quality control
is going to tell you >"Well,as a matter of fact our quality control isn't that great(!)"...I think it's realistic to expect the vast majority of businesses in the world, to tell you that their quality control is just 'wonderful'(!),'fantastic(!),just what you want(!) to hear...Every company has a public relations ' image' to uphold...and that's the way it is...the Japanese are no exception to the human race...
I like their Morning Glories, but I have learned to expect the 'unexpected'...what I expect at this point is to hopefully get something 'different' and work with what I get as best as I can...I don't expect a very high level of consistency...that is my own experience and viewpoint and... anyone is certainly free to express a concurring or dissenting point of view...
I'm glad to have access to the diversity of types that are available from Japan as they certainly provide a much richer rainbow of colors to all our painters palettes...

Emma todays blooms on your Plum Frost :) (5 vines in this pot)

Additionally,in my experience, blooms on the same vine can appear very different from day to day depending on heat, humidity, cloud or sun conditions, wind and a number of other factors. When temps are cooler, flower colors are darker and more intense. When the humidity is very high,my blooms seem to exhibit more fuscia "staining" in the midribs, and speckled across petals, esp. in the darker colored types. What may appear to be a different bloom,is just the delicate petals reacting to external influences.

very well stated!!

Eliza,
Glad you enjoyed all that I sent. I'm looking forward to seeing your blooms.
.....and, Seriously looking forward to your Royal Robe seeds.
That one is at the top of my favorites.
Whatever it is I LOVE IT!
I have Ron's notes saved that I need to go back and absorb
as he talked about this JMG.

Laurrie,
Oh wOw!
The blooms from the 'Plum Frost' seeds are just gorgeous, as always.
Can't get over the pattern you have with the PF.
There is the Pink Bloom that I posted photo of for you recently -
In fact, I've gotten several vines with that pattern, from Light Pink, to Medium Pink, to Hot Pink,
AND, even a Satin Medium Colored Pink that just shimmers.
I'm also getting many vines that are a Solid Dark Purple as in your photo too.
Fun huh!
