I am spending some time today ripping out and cleaning one of my beds. It is so junglish and am just tired of the mess it looks. Slowly but surely I am going to revamp several of my beds and move things around. I am ready for shrubs and barkdust. I have tried so many different things through the years and now I am ready for a little neater look with less maintenance from me. But one of my difficulties is I have some very large Douglas fir trees in that part of my garden. I would like to apply some of the principles of xeriscaping there but here in my part of Oregon we get lots of rain during fall, winter , and spring. Once it quits raining after the 4th of July it is very dry and under those firs it is really dry. What kind of plants would like those conditions? I don't want to water a huge amount either. I am thinking more shrubs. I know ceanothus does well there. By the way the trees are trimmed up very high so there is plenty of sun in there.
