To Pull or RU Weeds?

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

We've had so much rain all year that I'm overcome with weeks. Most are those viney wandering jew kind with the blue flowers, but there are lots of others. I try to pull up the weeds, but they have just gotten completely out of hand. Leaving the environmental issue totally out of this, is there any more effective way of getting rid of the weeds than Round Up?

Roundup is not so very horrible, it doesn't leave a long lasting residue in the soil.

Thanks for the response. Since we're not near water streams I didn't think there would be a problem. Now to find two hours between when the foliage has dried off and another thunderstorm comes rolling in.

The Nature Consevency uses Round-Up so it can't be too bad. Just be careful that you don't have any drift. Taking a peice of cardboard or several layers of newspaper to hold between the weed to be sprayed and the plant not to be sprayed works well. Just be sure to always keep the same side of the cardboard towards the Round-Up!

I minimize my use of Roundup as a matter of principle but, the truth is as stated above. Keep in mind that Roundup is the "new improved" version of Agent Orange. Don't let it get on you or your clothes and, be very careful of drift!

And once you have the weeds under control again, remember that it's easier to prevent them with mulch or a pre-emergent than it is to get rid of them.

I totally agree with you on that. I was just about to put down pinestraw when the floods starting coming everyday. The mosquitos are just too many to stay out for very long, not to mention the humidity!
