L'Amour X EP #7 050805

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Julie, that's just my way of keeping records. I start my seeds in a community pot, and if I start 12, then when they're up and ready to re-pot I name each one (in order of size) LA X EP #1, LA X EP #2 etc. My first one to bloom was #7 so it must not have been the biggest one in the batch when they were potted up. I usually include the date written as 041227 (2004, December 27) and the hybridizer. Just my way, I'm sure everyone has their own way of keeping records.

When I'm taking photos, I usually take a picture of the tag followed by the shots. When I download I move them into their own folder using the tag photo as ID. When the memory starts to turn to mush, you have to come up with something.

LOL You are the most organized lady wow! Great idea! lol I don't know if I can top that idea lol but I can try...but my brain/memory section LOL is already deteriorating....8-)

OK so now I know your story about the # behind the seedling...is this what you're doing too Sherry? And Sherry I'm getting excited for YOU TOO!!!! I wish it would hurry up, I can't stand it! This waiting...waiting lol....posts pics !!!!! Peese? lol

I am thinking that you have a few more days before those blooms open.. Mine came down further out of the calyx before they opened. It seemed like months since i went out to look at them every day

I greatly admire Linda's organizational skills, but mine fall far behind. My seedling envelope came marked - L'Amour x EP x 2. I do not know if I misread the x2 and it might have been #2, but I assumed it meant #2, possibly meaning the second pod of the same cross. But, I do not know, but felt it was important to included it since it was written that way. I took a look at the blooms @ 6:30am and they looked identical to last night. So, Jazzpunkin might be right; however, I could hardly see the buds 10 days ago, and from my limited experience that's quick from bud to almost open. On Sunday am, I checked the pods and they were hardly half way down. If she was a Golden, I'd say she is an 'easy whelper', lol!!!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Sherry, it seems to take forever for them to drop down and uncurl, mine has several more nice buds that will probably open in about a week. This will be the third blooming in about 6 weeks. There won't be as many this time, probably only 6 or so.

Thanks, Linda - we are experiencing our typical Aug weather cycle, lovely, cool, soft, continuous, breeze in the am, and hotter than holy heck for several hours in the pm, and of course, the days are getting shorter. It's tricky, and difficult to gage. But they blooms are unwinding. I tried to get a photo but the sun is at an odd angle. So, I'm sending a photo of a 2nd seedling:

#2 L'Amour x EP created by Kell - started 2/22/05

This seedling is a couple of inches taller than 6 feet, and FINALLY has Ys and buds, but the buds are tiny. Such a contrast in the two seedlings, in height.

Nice looking, healthy plant. I look forward to seeing what's in that bud.

Thanks, Linda!! I gave her fertilizer on Sunday, didn't water her yesterday. Do you think I should water her today?? I just checked her and she is great, no wilting and the buds are opening nicely. Everything, on the outside of the blossom, that I can see, is yellow. I am going to powder around her on the ground, just in case there are uninvited guests. Ya think, maybe later on, I should mist her?? I have any and everything in the world, as well as plain water, that has been sitting all day, just in case...suggestions will be sincerely appreciated. Oh, oh, I forgot, I counted at least 20 teeny tiny buds in her 2nd flush, I am just amazed!!!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I don't fertalize as often as I should, just don't have the time. I have another rain storm on the way, so that will take care of watering :-)

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Linda, I've had a heck of a week with my seedling and I've taken so many photos, and watched so closely that I'm totally exhausted. All was going fairly well until we had a wind and rain storm, knocked out the electricity, first time all year. The seedling is in the ground, so there was very little I could do to protect her and the storm came suddenly, tho it threatened for hours, it was still a surprise when it hit. It tore several blooms off and left those remaining with holes, whipped leaves and, when the sun came out, the calyx of each of the blooms was sunburned to a crisp and the color bleached outta the blossoms. They never had a chance and the storm happened right as they were at their prime. Attached is a photo - I'm not good, at all, with night shots. But, there is one thing that's REALLY great, they smell oh so good, a soft, clean, light citrus fragrance. I really love yours and hope that these will have a better second flush, poor babies, just seems like everything in the world that could go wrong did.

PS - my digital is nutz, this photo was taken tonight! Sorry about the wrong date.

This is a photo of EP - her blooms are tiny and look at the tightly curled tendrils. Are they always like that??

I have never seen tendrils on EP like that Sherry. The shape looks wrong to me also though it is hard to tell with the angle of your picture. I love those tendrils. Is this the first day?

Is that pink bloom from a seed of mine? L'A X EP?? I really like that one. Is it day 1? Are you happy with it?

What a shame about your storm. Seems so unfair to hit like that after all your hard work. Sometimes there is just no luck!!

Are you making like a bee??

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

My EP didn't have tightly curled tendrils. Cute though! Tell us the truth, did you used an eyelash curler on her? LOL

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

OHHHHh I love those Curley Sue Curls!!!! Beautiuful Sherry@!!!! Gurly Curly Sue!

Awesome Brug shots and lovely plants and pics
WOW I know you are so proud of yourself :-)))))

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Oh Sherry, I'm sorry you had a storm right at the time they were opening. The pink is a beauty and the curly tendrils on the other are so cute. Please post more as they continue to open and change color. Maybe start it's own thread . . . I've got flush 3 starting now and will start a new thread for that one too.

I have three EPs, two sent from two unassociated, reliable hybridizers and I have a third EP from one of the limbs of those plants, that I just stuck in the ground on the 4th of July/05 and it's maybe 6 inches tall and there are two spent blossoms on it that were 12 inches long, and, of course, drug the ground before I found them to prop them up. Duh, I dunno. The first two EPs wintered outside, but were chemical damaged, twice and last year her blooms were larger and not as curly.

Kell, I LOVE my L'Amour x EP seedling from you and I've had more fun with her and cannot believe she even bloomed, she was severely damaged by chemicals, twice, and had her head chopped off by a limb in another storm. This is her first flush, and a very large flush (for me) is in the oven. Do I like her??? I'm nutz for her for many reasons, she is a fighter, produces with very little maintenance, she is NOT a bug magnet (and believe me she's had the opportunity), she tolerates the heat/humidity very well and, had she not been beaten to death in this latest storm, I'm almost certain she would still be looking fresh. IMO, four days of nice blooms, in this heat, humidity is amazing, and I bet her next flush will be even nicer. She has a nice, light, fresh fragrance, so, goodness, I could not be more pleased with her. Thank you, oh so much, for sending the seeds, I appreciate having the opportunity to grow such a lovely girl!! If you have anything left this season, I'd love to start some more. I think I have it down fairly well now, and my goal next year is for earlier blooms, tho her seed was planted 2/22/05 and she started opening, the night of
8/14/05, six months isn't bad, but I think she would have bloomed earlier, if not for the chemicals that set her back....

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You did much better than I did Sherry! Mine are not near blooming yet. I should have lots of seeds this year again. I will put you on the list.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Kell!! Your seeds seem to LOVE it here. I'd love to try more of your seeds, cuttings too, if you have enough to go around. I have several more LA x EP that I expect to bloom this season, I am very excited. Pinkmond x BF, Mixed Pinks, & Rosamond x ?, will likely bloom also, I'll check them today. I appreciate the opportunity to grow your seeds and it's lots of fun to grow them with Linda growing the same one in the same zone, different state. Oh, I cannot wait to see what your LA x EP seedling does. Of course, yours will probably be a double or triple, lol, but it would not surprise me...

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I have lots of Susanne seeds and will have tons of Ruthie X everything in my yard seeds. I am hoping for tons of Creamsickle seeds also. And others. I just picked 10 pods off Butterfly but I did not have tags when I crossed them so my method of tagging them failed. So they are unnamed. I am so mad at myself. Some were X double pink and X double apricot seedling.

I am rooting lots of my seedlings now. I have been so slow to get them out to trial. I need to!! I just seem not to not have any time anymore. I am trying to have a life outside of brugs also for a change.

THANKS for growing some out for me Sherry! Glad they are working for you. Soon you will have yoru own to grow.

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Kell, would love to trial some for you :)

Thanks, Kell, every one of your seedlings is strong, naturally straight trunked, bug resistant, easy to grow, the whole shebang wrapped up in those zone CA seeds, lol!! I am VERY interested in trialing new seedling crosses too and the best thing about trialing brugs here is, if they can grow here, they can grow anyplace, I will send you postage and expenses for as many as you might like to send...
