Green hornet sting - help from this site?

RICHMOND, VA(Zone 7b)

Monday evening one got me with three stings on my middle finger and between it and the pointer. used ice pack and benadryl salve.
soaked in epsom salts this afternoon - helped for an hour, but back to itching, burning and throbbing again. It's a bummer!
any advice?

Requires a prescription, but if the irritation persists, a course of prednisone (a steroid) would probably help. I was stung several times on the face by yellow jackets last fall and the swelling and pain, both of which were considerable, were quickly controlled.

Thanks.
Boy! I bet you were hurting!
This is not that big a deal to start on predisone, I don't think. i wonder how long the discomfort will last, tho; it still burns, itches then throbs this a:m.

I think a sting can last for up to a week, so you might be almost finished with it. I've also heard that meat tenderizer helps some stings. The yellow jackets that got me had a nest inside a piece of garden sculpture, and I inadvertently disturbed them when cutting back some plants. They were FAST! My husband thinks I'm nuts for leaving them alone (they apparently wintered over in the sculpture), but I respect their work in the garden. We don't have small children, and you can be sure that I am very careful when working in that area. They sit on the outside and watch me, but have not struck again.

I have heard that if you rub some meat tenderizer (MSG?) in your sting as soon as you are bit, it breaks down the proteins in the venom and they do not affect you as badly
.
I trhink it is worth a try! After all, isn't that why we use it on our steaks??? WHY do they get tender? Because the tenderizer breaks down the "walls" of the cells of the meat--or something like that.....and makes it more palatable.

Try it next time something stings you. Let me know if it worked!

I'm glad you said it might be a week - here it is Friday, and I am still itching and burning; but the inflamed swollen area is reducing in size.
I hate to support the MSG industry - I won't buy anything that contains it, and lots of stuff does -
(a product that can't make it without affecting my taste buds - plus it gives me hot flashes and a headache)
still - it might be wise to have some on hand.
Thanks for the advice.
