Just got a bunch of stuff from lowes for a quarter each!

Chickamauga, GA(Zone 7a)

I just got home from lowes and got a bunch of things off the clearance table for just a quarter! I left with 1 Pampas grass a red celosia (what does this flwoer do? Will it come back next year??) Also got Gallardia, a red salvia, and what I am really intersted in is a 6" jewels of Opar....will this last through the winter? Is it somethign that likes sun or not?

None of these came with markers thank God the names are printed on the side of the pots. Like I said before I am new to gardening so any help is great :)

Also with this jewels of Opar I see little pods that seem to have seeds inside them...what can I do with these? Can I collect them and save them? I also read another post where someone was making new plants from cuttlings? How does this work and what do I need to do??

Sorry if I am asking too much.....

Thanks for the tip off. Just picked up 2 six-packs of red salvia to fill out some blank spaces around the hummer feeder - and they love it. Spent a whole 27 cents for 12 plants!

G-i-G,

Thanks for the tip. I picked up cat's whiskers and pentas today for a quarter. Love those bargains. Tomorrow I'm off to hunt through other local Lowe's & HDs.

A red celosia is grown as an annual by most people, but I did see one in the plantfiles as listed to zone 9. Cleosia's make a plume type flower or there are other varieties that makes one thats all twisty looking....we've always called them 'brain flowers' and they love a sunny site or one with a bit of shade.

Jewels of Opar is another annual and is very frost tender, but I've red it makes a good house plant in the winter months. The seedpods can be cut and dried( they are sometimes dyed and used in floral arrangements). Or you can save the seed inside.

Sorry I didn't get to the cuttings, but I have to go to bed now....
Good Night,

The problem with living in the northland there is no plant clearance until the garden center gets going. We have waited for 4 months for something to change on the clearance shelf. Still the same slug bait and we have no slugs.
Bummer.
