Show Your Flags-patriotic beds

West Monroe, LA(Zone 8a)

My son was stationed in Korea on 9-11. When he came home he was so excited by all the flying flags everywhere.I had a small one in my welcome garden that year. When my son went to war in Iraq (his unit had the highest number of casualties) I raised a large flag on my telephone pole and put in a red white & blue bed beneath. Planning & caring for that garden & changing my front porch scene to a patriotic theme helped me get through that 8 months till Thank God he came home. The whole neighborhood we live in raised their flags for him. I'm keeping all my patriotic stuff up till all out guys come home.
My Flag bed is with red roses because my son as a child always wanted me to plant red roses. He believes it's not a rose if it's not red. I put a blue pot there because blue flowers are hard to keep coming. This is an Early Spring view-it's all gilled in now with blue veronica blooming & red daylilies edging it out. I'd love to see & hear about your patriotic beds. Show me yout flags. Ginger

Ginger--what a nice idea for your son and the troops away from home. I have a flag up, but didn't think to plant the garden in patriotic colors.

I did see a golf course this week with a huge red, white, and blue planted flower bed at the entrance, much like a waving flag. It was a real traffic stopper!

I planted a red, a white, and a blue rose of sharon, but the red appears dark pink and blooms later than the other two! I tried! The photos look pretty good when I put them together in my scrapbook.
