Dog urine in my grass

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

What do yall use to get rid of dog urine in our lawn? My grass turned to bright yellow, orange color.

N., CA(Zone 9a)

I've always just read to water it like crazy to flush it out.

Dry Ridge, KY(Zone 6a)

What is the deal with that? We have a dog (75 lbs worth of dog) and he 'goes' all over the lawn but it never turns yellow. We have had neighborhood dogs visit the lawn and sure enough there will be a yellow spot in a few days. Is it a male/female, neutered/not neutered, spayed/not spayed thing?

Denver, CO(Zone 6a)

The urine in female dogs is more concentrated so will leave more of a signature plus they squat all the time. Lots of water and there is a product that helps but you have to do it immediately after the dog urinates and I can't remember what it is. Sorry.

Hey guys, This lady who lives a couple of houses away from me. She always has her dog and takes it out for a walk and of course the dog urinates on my green lush grass. This lady has no respect for people lawns. She does not carry a poop bag and takes her dog along to other houses and does the same thing. She comes everyday day in my yard with her dog and that dog pees and who knows what else. So i try to water it but she continues to bring her dog and the dog pees again. Is there any way to handle this lady and tell her something polite about her dog . Please help!!

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Turn the sprinklers on when she shows up! Then she won't come again.

deb,
If I were you, I'd politely tell what I don't like, because it has reached a stage of 'nuisance'. I'd not wait till the time the offender him/herself realizes -- more often they wont! Because if they were of that type, they would not have allowed to get this far, in the first instance. They should be made to understand, in a direct, polite manner. Else, things will continue till you get crazy!!

I think you should get one of those motion sesonr water sprayers. That way when she comes to your yard the water goes on. But then that is my opinion. Perhaps you should just ask her not to let her dog relieve itself on your lawn. She won't know you have a problem until you tell her.

Dry Ridge, KY(Zone 6a)

Mobi, I like the motion sensor idea. It would get the dog and the walker too. lol

Perhaps the next time she is out with the dog point out the dead spots in your lawn and ask her to please keep her dog and it's droppings off of your lawn. If that doesn't work [insert Mission Impossible theme here] a midnight poop delivery to her house might drive home the message.

Brookhaven, PA(Zone 7a)

I would mention it once - I have a similar problem. And then- if she doesn't comply ( I would also check local ordinaces- she's probably required to clean up after her dog) I would TOTALLY do the motion sprinkler!

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I placed a polite sign near the front of our yard stating 'NO DOGS ALLOWED'.....most of the neighbors have been respectful. The sprinkler sounds like a great idea though. :-)

I was at a garage sale a few Saturday's ago and there was this woman, aka "dufus' who brought her dog, not a tiny little delicate thing, up to and thru the card tables et al assembled. AND THEN the dog pee'd on the sidewalk!! I just stared at her. She looked around, shrugged and went about her business. common sense and common courtesy is just not too common!

Bethel, OH(Zone 6a)

I would politely just tell her that you really don't want her dog to come in your yard. Explain(because it is obvious that she can't figure it out on her own) that you put a lot of time and effort in keeping your yard the way you like it and you don't care for the dog coming in and doing its business on your lawn.

If she doesn't comply than I would call the law and see what can be done. To me she and her dog are trespassing on your property.

If that does't work sprinklers sounds good to me.

Your could always put up a tombstone with the saying:

HERE LIES THE LAST DOG THAT PEE'D OR POOPED IN MY YARD!!!!

LOL

Don't bash me I truly love dogs, I have 6 dogs myself. 4 beagles, 1 doberman, 1 jack russell.

I love dogs, but be responsible. Have a poop bag. i always carry a poop bag. I guess i have to send my dog over to her yard to poop.

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

whenever the dog pooped on your lawn you should, after she leaves, pick it up and deposit it on her lawn until she stops.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Maybe your right Herbie. But its not my responsibility to pick up poop!!

Dry Ridge, KY(Zone 6a)

Minihostalover - roflmao. You could add "and the owner of that dogs is now fertilizing my veggie garden... Tomatos for sale".

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

What a solution!!! Maybe dogs for sale. LOL

Bethel, OH(Zone 6a)

Funny .... Ky, I am laughing so hard that I can't see.

What ever the solution, just try and not get yourself so upset that you blow up at your neighbor, you will be neighbors for a long time. If it bothers you that bad which it would me, I would go and talk to her asap.

I agree with you deb, it is not your responsibility to pick up after others dogs. Not to mention it is a health hazzard. When you have your kids playing in your yard. That is how worms get transfered to people. I have the same problem with some of my neighbors, only my neighbors have BIG, I mean HUGE dogs and you know what that means, Nothing worse than mowing your yard and hitting a pile of poo. Really ticks me off.
Good luck to ya,
Cindy

Best way to handle these people, Call animal control services they just dont get it. Thats my next step!! DONT GET OFFENDED.

Dry Ridge, KY(Zone 6a)

If you haven't tried talking to the woman then it seems to me getting Animal Control involved is jumping the gun. Generally they are over worked and under staffed and don't have time to deal with issues that people could handle themselves with a little talking. Perhaps talking will do no good with this person but perhaps it will. You will never know till you try. Sometimes people just don't think and all it takes is bringing it to their attention.

mid central, FL(Zone 9a)

but to get back to the yellow grass-i have had males, females, (all fixed) and i have never had a yellowing problem. maybe its whats in the food they eat? or dont eat? just a guess. motion sprinkler for sure! then you dont even have to confront her. if she is that ignorant ( i dont mean that in a bad way LOL), chances are talking to her wont help at all and may end up worse=-she could send her DH to your house, snowball OOOOOOOOOO. debi

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Maybe you have luck. My husband had a talk with her about my grass and her dog. My husband told her politely about not to let her dog pee in my property. She comes different times of the day. We saw her and her dog about 6am in the morning. She thought we were asleep. The ignorance of this lady 1 day after the talk. We saw her and her dog on our property again relaxing under my tree. The dog peed again. The nerve of this lady. Talking to her didnt seem to work. Next step the law. I will keep calling the animal control center and reporting her until she stops!! Any advice !!!!!!

Dry Ridge, KY(Zone 6a)

Have you tried calling a lawn service or lanscape person to see what, if anything can be done to stop the yellowing? Not to hire them but to see if they know of a product. If your husband talked to the neighbor and it hasn't done any good I guess the only thing you can really do is continue to report them. Squeaky wheels tend to get oiled.

Personally I'd go with the motion sensor sprinkler in addition to the reporting. A time or two of getting wet and she will get tired of it.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

The fact that she is "relaxing" under your tree w peeing dog after the discussion leads me to ask if she is average intelligence or is she less? Does anyone else in the neighborhood know her? I would guess she is not running on all cylinders.

Moon Twp, PA(Zone 6a)

I vote motion sensor! If you've "talked", it obviously hasn't worked, then go to the next level. Make sure it doesn't get the public sidewalk wet, just the interior of your yard, which you are more than authorized to water.

Another thought. Hook up the sprinkler, set it up so it reaches full force, right where they "relax" and "pee" - hose going around the back. You see them from the house, sneak out and "happen" to turn it on... Hey, it's your yard, if you want to water at 6 AM, that is your perogative! Why in the world were they there trespassing (+ peeing/pooping) in your yard anyways?! LOL ~ Suzi ♥
