The last picture looks like a apricot arborea, the bloom looks like it has petals. It is so very pretty.
I really hit the lotto
Kell, I am so sorry for your loss. I live with my Mom. I retired last year to be her primary caregiver. She is very ill. She spends 22-23 hours a day in bed in critical pain. Mom has been sick for over 3 years. The good days are fewer and fewer but when she has one she rides her scooter in the yard looking at my Bruggies. She loves them so much. Try to remember the good times, I know there are many to draw from.
You are such a caring, giving person, it shows in all all of your posts and pictures.
God Bless,
Margo
Buffie is gorgeous. Congratulations! Maybe someday I will become the Mad Pollinator from Puna...if I get enough interesting ones to play with...I have some ideas...now with space...who knows. If I live that long!!!
Carol
You will love it Carol!! Pollinating is fun and then watching the pod start to grow is a thrill.
Oh Margo, I am sure you must be a very special person. How hard must that be to watch your Mom suffer so for so long. I hope you get some breaks to refresh your spirit and strength.
I am having fun, Brinda. Sometimes I just get overwhelmed. Ruthie was tentatively named last year before my Mom was even sick. I took one look at such a huge bloom all pink and was afraid I would never make another so pink. I thought she would get a kick out of it.
I took a cutting from her last year to grow to bring to my Mom's house this spring when I usually go to make her a little flower garden outside her back door that she can see looking out. She was in a wheelchair. I had then forgotten about it till this spring when I saw X Ruthie seeds. By then I knew things were bad.
I have planted the plant meant for Mom in my front garden. Too bad she never saw it. I have debated whether I should change her name now.
Ruthie has been putting on such a show for me. When the sun hits her, she just lights up. Here she is with my latest love, a brand new flax, Ember Glow. Ember glow has the most amazing colors. And as you can see, they glow together. LOL
Totally gorgeous Kell.
The color is amazing!
Sorry to hear about your loss; I wish you comfort.
Enjoy your blooms, they are beautiful.
I'm so sorry; I didn't realize it was such a short time ago. I know I would still be a complete basket case.
You don't trust your luck much do you; ' no more pinks' you thought, and here you have...how many double pinks??!!!
Are you thinking of naming a double pink after her instead? They are still one in a million...
Thanks Karen and Kristi.
And heavens no, the doubles are Monika's, not mine. I had only named Ruthie, Ruthie because I thought my Mom would get a kick out of it when she saw it. It wasn't meant to be a funereal type of thing but a fun thing for her to enjoy. To be honest I do not even know what I think anymore. Hey that is my usual state, befuddled and confused and sometimes misused. LOL!
Though I have got to say Ruthie is a good brug. I was very worried about her future in earlier flushes for she wilted in the day time in the sun. But even in this heat wave she is doing fine if kept hydrated. She is in the same 15 gallon pot for her second year and needs to be watered daily, which I had not caught on to earlier. Her corolla walls are thick for such a big bloom.
And you are right, every time I get a good brug I am so amazed and so thankful. Shocked at my good fortune.
Ruthie and the new flax looks awesome together. Did you grown the flax from seeds?
:) Donna
Donna, no. This is a brand new variety of flax, I bet they got it by a sport. These seem to put out sports easily. I am starting to crave them. Unfortunately they grow into big clumps. But I am ignoring that part. LOL. There are so many and so many pink ones!! Be still my pink heart. I am going to start potting them with Heuchera in matching colors. I also seem to be collecting those. I just love the colors so much. I am nuts.
Thanks Jeanne. I really lucked out. I got a single white from this cross also. Spin of the wheel. Have you gotten any pink doubles from all your Monika seeds? I know you have Peach Chiffon, one I always enjoyed seeing.
3 more blooms opened tonight. This one I pulled out a whole piece of it when I was getting her anthers out, but I can't even tell where now. I will say getting the anthers and pollinating these is not an easy job. Especially since this is a tall tree. I have to get up on a step stool. Too many layers of petals and they are all attached. Today I used 2 very special pollens from my growing plots. One is the darkest brug I have ever seen and the other is one has spider tendrils. I am praying they take.
That's a beauty, Kell!
:) Donna
Hmmmm I've never heard of flax? Pretty though
Your killin me Kell!!! Wowser!
I've been away for almost a week, and look what I've missed. Just unbelievable, Kell. Good luck with the crosses, and put my name in the hat to grow some of them out.
It was almost dark when I got home last night, but I could see that your seedling LA X EP is pushing out of the calyx. So glad it waited for me to get back. I'll post you some pick this afternoon.
I remember 'Ruthie' from when you posted it before. You didn't say at the time, but I suspected that it was named for your mother. It is a beauty, and if you want to see what it does in REAL heat and humidity, send a piece to SC. I was just in Boston, and would get so amused when someone would say 'boy, it's hot and humid today'. I thought it was delightful.
Wow again...that last picture is a beauty!!
Say, Kell, I have a hoya cultivar called H. cv. Ruthie....best grower and bloomer in the full sun. Would you like to start a garden section of Ruthies? This one is a great climber.
Carol
Thanks so much, Donna!
She is killing me also Root. LOL. Ruthie has passed her prime now but the double just gets better and better. Everytime I look at her I laugh. What luck!! A lot of others got these seeds too so I am holding my breath for everyone. Root, how are your Monika seeds doing? We need to have lots of these doubles here. One in every yard!! Between all the double seeds Ludger sent in and Monikas, we are going to be knee deep in double pinks. What a fate.
I have a few others blooming tons too. I wish July was not whizzing by so fast.
Linda, you are on the list!!! I am hoping I get tons to share. I can't wait to see your new seedling. That cross is a dark one for me. Thanks for your nice comments about Ruthie. I am rooting some of her now. I need to send her out to trial. I have been so slow to get some rooted. The pieces I sent out unrooted died. I am trying to root all my send outs now, just better esp for newbies.
But that is troublesome due to lack of room. I am using my seedling tables for it. But as soon as I start my seedlings, that will have to stop. I will add you to that list too. I would appreciate you doing that for me. You are a good brug Mom. I am not into registering my brugs really, so I am so lax. I am having trouble just trying to water everything right now. One of these days I will get everything done. Oh yeah right! LOL
Thanks Carol!!! I will email you!
Happiness is a pink brug.
I think I'd about flip out if I ended up with a double pink like that! She's beautiful! (I'm talking about the first pic - I haven't even looked at this whole thread).
OMG ... gorgeous color, flower. Beautiful Kell & Monika!! Keep them photos coming.
Oh Kell, they are sooooooooo beautiful! I bet you are in double pink heaven!!!
I third the OHHHHHH! Please keep posting your beautiful blooms. The flowers are just lovely!
Oh Susie. I am sitting here so worried about you and you make the time to come and post to me. You are so nice. The Queen of Nice! LOL!!
I do so wish you had evacuated.
Thanks Deb and Karrie. I destroyed these 2 blooms yesterday. I just couldn't find the stigmas, they are so buried in petals. So I ripped them in half. I had to take a deep breath to do it. But it had to be done. I have more though!
Thank you, Miss Mel. You are such a sweetheart too!
they are gorgeous!
I ended up tearing on of my almost blooming creamsickle blooms yesterday when I was trying to open it up to put the paintbrush with pollen on it.
That last shot is just stunning. Hope the pollen took.
If you started a list somewhere, can I hop on it too? I am reading brug posts and pages the past two days now, instead of working and getting some gardening done. I think I may be in trouble. But at least I know where to get more pots!
Oh and looking for a cutting of Susanne if anyone will have one eventually, it's almost my legal name, just spelled with the second S instead of the Z like mine. I found that I had it placed on a brug wish list a long time ago, just found it again. It is the look and shape I am most attracted to, now what do you call that variety?
I call it incredible. LOL.
I do have a list of people who have emailed me, but I probably should stop it since I do not have any seeds yet at all! LOL. I love how I am so far ahead in my mind. Seeing doubles all over the world. LOL. I make no promises. But I do always try. I may get no seeds!!!
Karrie, it hurts to do that doesn't it?
ok, well any list you have anywhere for anything is fine by me. Maybe I can tempt you with a few daylilies.
I have many 'to get' and 'to do' lists, just need to find them on my messy desk, clean messy desk is on my 'to do' list too, I think, if I can find it, vicious cycle. :-(
Absolutely stunning shot Kell. She must make you smile everytime you see her.
You're such a tease, kell! It's getting more gorgeous! Send me some bud waves over here, please.
:) Donna
Those twins are magnificent, I've never seen anything even similar, soooo beautiful!!
She's pink, she's a double, she's gorgeous. Those skirts make it look like you caught her in mid dance. Hope she stays dancing for you all through the summer!
Mary
Thank you all so much. This is why I love Dave's. Everyone is so supportive and so very generous of spirit. Thanks for being happy for me.
I had nothing to do with making it but I sure will try to make some seed pods for us all to enjoy. I will do my best to all of you on here that have expressed your love of it, to receive at least a few seeds to see if you can grow your own. No promises, but God willing, I will try.
Plus others are growing this cross also so I am hoping for a few more at the very least of these double pinks to surface this summer. I can't wait.
Tom took a picture of me tonight after I was out looking at my pepto garden. I go out there and I just feel so transformed, so renewed and so refreshed. I just feel so pink! LOL
Oh my! I'm speechless. So nice to see you LOL!
I was trying to say something, really I was......
I was just completely speechless...
Now that I have my voice back......
It is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL double pink I have ever seen......
My sincere CONGRATULATIONS to both of you...... :)
Edit: forgot to say .... loooove the pic...lol

Kell
i didn't realize your were that young
Dick
Beautiful double pink and I agree . . . without Monika's sharing of seeds, we would still be so far behind. Of course, we will not catch up with her knowledge of hybridizing until we have a number of decades keeping research records and detailed planning of crosses as she does. It still amazes me that when she hybridizes, she pretty much knows the outcome of her cross. For myself, I know I don't have that many years left in my life and I am so thankful to Monika for enriching it by giving us shortcuts by sharing her seeds.
Congrats to you both!
Thanks so much Frannie. I just love her. How are all your Monika seedlings doing? They must all be getting ready to bloom if they haven't already. I sure am hoping you hit the lotto too! Are you home now from your get away house in the woods? I bet it is just so lovely there, it is hard to come home to reality! I would just love to see your updated photos. I bet it has really changed with all your hard work.
Oh MKjones, did you post a pic? I can only see the direction to click for an enlarged view.
