hollyhocks

My hollyhocks were planted from seed in 1999. They only get about 15 inches high then turn yellow and die. All plants around them are fine and healthy. Any ideas?

Is the soil wet? Sounds like the roots might be rotting. Maybe there's a pest that are eating the roots and causing them to rot.

Hollyhocks are prone to rust. That might be your problem.

Thanks for answers. I'll check the roots. How do you get rid of rust? Thanks for all your help
