Awesome pictures, Janis, really nice JMGs there...what are their cultivar names?

Great pictures all. Janis, love the way your flower looks hand painted, just like your nails! Very pretty flowers.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Thanks Joseph. As for who or what they are... well, my seeds came from eBay this year (it was before I found DG LOL) and the one in suprise came to me labeled Purple Blue and White Swirl. As for the other, I have no idea..... I had "help" from my kids when I planted the seedlings. I knew taht I needed a bunch for around the cistern, and the kids just brought me the trays of the seedlings and they just handeded them to me in no real order. I thought there was a blue stripe on that side, but I don't think that is it.

So, if anyone know who these are please let me know :)

Oh, the 2 blooms in the first pic are from 2 different vines.

Thanks Arlene, I appreciate it :)

Ok, here is a close up of the smaller of the 2 white/blue ones.... they look hte same but are from different vines, and I did try not to plant 2 of the same vine together.

ANy ideas on what it is?

TIA

Janis, the last photo looks like Blue Star Ipomoea tricolor

Your Purple Blue and White Swirl -
looks like a 'Blue' version of my Cross 'Emma's Gift' that is similar but with 'Purple'.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

EmmaGrace, I thought the last one might be blue star, I know that I planted some of them. I have loved your "Emma's" crosses so I"m glad mine sort of looks like it :)

The other white and blue in the top pic, the larger of the 2, do you think it is ipomoea tricolor blue star also? I am curious because of the difference in size

Thanks!

Janis,
Looking at these again, they could very well be Flying Saucers. I don't recall any stripes in Blue Star. Did you by chance plant Flying Saucers?

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

I sure did.... I expected them to be more purple than bllue tho... at least taht was the impression I got when I bought them. The Flying Saucers came from Burpees

Janis

Wichita, KS

They are flying saucers.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Thanks nuts4spuds.

Can anyone tell me why the pics looked so purple on the Burpee site or is it just camera variation,. or is it flower variation? I don't care really, I just thought they were purplish and white when I bought them. Either way I think they are beautiful :)

I guess it is too hot here for my mg's to bloom. The only one that seems to have a bloom or 2 every other day is the huge pale blue one. Of course, my Blue Dawn blooms, but none of the other annual varieties that I planted.

What am I doing wrong that all my pictures look so washed out?

your camera is focusing on the greenery behind the flower... you could hold a white piece of paper up behind it to try and block the shot.

Could maybe get an ID on this one. It's not the best shot it's up pretty high on my pergolla. The flower isn't real big but the color is true.
Thanks

Here is another of the Purple Blue and White Swirl that I got from eBay.... this one really shows the colors better.
I don't know what they really are, but I love them :)

Woofens, your morning glories are as follows:

#1. Ipomoea purpurea, 'Common' or 'Tall' morning glory. Typically, this one is found growing wild in all parts of the US, commonly either purple or blue, less often found in pink, fushia, or white with a purple/blue star.

#2. Ipomoea purpurea 'Shibori' (roughly translated 'tye-dye' in Japanese). There are strains of this that have come from the Reunion Isles (and elsewhere, I just can't remember at the moment!). I've seen it in the blue like you have, purple, and bright pink/magenta, all for sale on eBay and other sites.

#3. Ipomoea tricolor--this one is an enigma to me, because it looks most closely to 'Blue Star' to me, except for the flaking, which is typical of 'Flying Saucers'. I'd love to swap you for a few of these seeds--they're beautiful!

Minigranny--I get the same exact problem when I use a flash to take MG photos. It's like the light wipes out the color. Try taking them just after sun-up when the sun is hitting them, and you'll get a better shot. It's a pain, I know...I'm not a morning person, to boot!! :-)

Luvsgrtdanes--yours is Ipomoea purpurea 'Crimson Rambler'.

Thanks QB

Here you go Janis.
Your #2 Shibori is also referred to as 'Bluish-Purple Flaked'
However, check out the real name.....
Try to pronounce that one!

Aomurasakizyouhantensibori, Bluish-Purple Flaked Ipomoea purpurea

Ok Emma, I dare ya to say "Aomurasakizyouhantensibori" 5 times real fast. Ya just can't do it. LOL

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Heck, Joseph, I can't even say it ONE TIME....lol

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, the mg that I thought wasn't Blue Silk bloomed for the first time this morning. The foliage is now much more variegated, and guess what? It is Blue Silk. Yippee! Of course, the sprinkler had already gotten to it before I noticed the bloom though. I know now from looking at this bloom that the other pale blue mg I posted yesterday is not Blue Silk. The bloom is even larger than Blue Silk and is solid pale blue.

And the purple one is blooming again, but the bloom isn't nearly as large as before.
