How cool!
RAIN!!
We got rain too! It's been raining pretty steady for about an hour now, and it's heading towards Houston. Looks like maggiemoo and txgrdngeek are going to get some more rain tonight.
Yesterday we got RAIN. It started about 7:05 and finished about 7:09. Oh well. Atleast I got my windsheild clean!
MMM..been raining off and on all day here..downpour mostly...I am glad I don't have to water my 4 acre yard for abit...I am located between Houston and Beaumont....
Not a drop here at the little house on the Katy Prairie (west side of Houston). Had a half an inch on the 7th--nada drop more for the last 39 days.
Would you believe the city had the water shut off around here for almost three days? It just came back on about one oclock last night. Thank god for that heavy rain the other day and my overwatering or i would have been in deep doo doo. The developers are getting ready to build this huge complex across the street ...Its the weekend now ....I am dreading whats going to happen Monday.:( ...and I complain because if they knew what I had going on back here I would be in jail with the amount of water I use...go figure....

LOL - I got a notice I use to much water! Oh well I guess more natives and less musa....
We got almost 2 inches of rain Thursday night. We were at the local village restaurant when it started. It was raining so hard, we were soaked by the time we got in the truck. Then we sat in the truck in front of our gate for almost an hour. The lightening was too severe to risk getting out to open the gate. What few grass blades were still green really perked up by yesterday.
Mitch...how did they find out ...or catch you? lol
Sylvia
meter reader I guess - or the code guy behind me... he "trimmed up" the line between us that just happened to have a bunch of my natives on my side but he says they leaned over the line and thus needed a trim.... oh well what can ya do? Now I just hope they move (I sure dont plan on it.... yet)
Darn it Mitch...what a bummer!

I'm surprised y'all didn't get more rain the other nite. I heard Johnson City had a tornado but someone I spoke to earlier tonite said it was more straight line winds. Strong. We got 0.4" out here, about 13 miles east of Blanco. My daughter made me a rainstick when she was younger, and I shook it last Wed nite, and did what I considered a rain dance, and it rained the next day! I could always ask my daughter if she remembers how she made it so we can spread, and maybe improve, the "chances" of rain!
It's possible that Johnson City had very different weather than what we had. Stonewall only 20 minutes away can have very different weather than we do. Many times storms will circle all around us, and we won't get anything. As far as I know Fredericksburg in all its 150 years plus has never had a tornado, but they have touched down outside of town.
I got rain today! And am I dreaming?! The forecast shows possible showers all week?!! Heaven...I'm in Heaven... :)
Here to - here to rain again... July is turning out so far to be great!
It's wonderful to have rain (of course, I'm not rationed on my water tho) but I'm just happy to have CLOUDS!! I can work outside in the heat, but sometimes the days with the blazing sun just don't appeal to me. Surely I'm not getting older?
When will I learn and ....listen? The irrigation guy told me the pressure valve would ruin my hose if i didnt cut the water off. I just bought this forty dollar hose about two weeks ago... I came home this evening and water was everywhere! The hose was completely separated from the water wand! Now i am praying it storms so my pot could stay wet. I saw on Tv where they are cutting water off all over north Dallas, Frisco, Mckinny, Plano and more due to busted pipes and or wells or something... they are even closing down restarants and schools to save water...so whats a gardener to do? {sigh}
Sylvia
Wow! Those are pretty drastic measures! Closing down businesses!?
yeah Maggie...all of north Texas have a water crisis!

Talk about wierd and wild weather in Houston. My store is on Sunset Blvd just off of Kirby Dr. and the last 3 days we have had a 1 to 1 1/2 hour deluge of rain up towards 2 to 2.5 inches each! All times have been between 3 and 6 in the afternoon. Strange thing is that 2 miles west....not a drop.
The $60,000 question now is.....Who's messing with Mother Nature ?
Kip, I thought it was you!
:-)
Kipper I have no idea who's messing with Mother Nature...but you sure are hogging all the rain! hehehe Debra~
We need rain in san anton!! maybe a flood!! i like the smell of rain in dirt. rain rain rain ,
Finally as I type I'm getting a, so far, going on 3 hour steady drizzle here at the house in SW Houston/Ft. Bend County. And again, at the store today between 2 and 4 we got another storm with the usual 2 to 2.5 inches. This week at the house I hve gotten a total of 1/2 inch.
Reminder to self - Get rain gage for the store. (or do I really want to know??)
Naw, Maggiemoo, I just mess with you.
PS: Is your middle name Mother Nature?? ;o)
Out here on the "little house on the katy prairie" as I lovingly refer to it (really west side of Houston N hwy 6 and I10) we got a 2" deluge this afternoon but now its raining real slow and steady...a good rain! At last!
I've starting setting out a couple of buckets to catch any rain we may get. Why let the rain that was falling on the walkway go to waste, when the flowerbed could really use it?
Kip, you could catch a lot of water at your store, maybe even sell it! ;-)
We need the rain, but I got more wind than I wanted tonight! Winds were up to 60mph and bending my Crepe Myrtles over! I stood and watched out the window, fighting the urge to cry, afraid that my plants would be ruined. As soon as it stopped I threw on my rubber boots and went out to inspect. The wind whips around the side of my house and hits the wall and knocks almost everything on that side over almost flat. The ground was too wet to even get them to stand back up. Hopefully tomorrow they will be able to straighten up. I bought a rain gauge the other day, but haven't put it out yet, and it's rained 3 times since!! lol
Wowza!!! What a rain as I headed to work this am!! It's been a long time since we've had this kind of storm to drive through, and you could sure tell it - everyone actually slowed down and was cautious. It was very difficult to see where on earth we were, much less where we were going. It wasn't raining at my house when I left, wonder if it got up there. Today's my short day, so I'll find out before too long. I'll check my buckets to see if they caught anything.
Yahoo! Rain here in Monaville, Tx. We had a nice steady rain yesterday evening. I am not sure of the total received, but it is was the most we have had since June 1. For the last 4 days we have had some showers and thunder and a bit of lightening and wind. The hay has bowed its head in thankfulness as have my flowers, etc.
It finally hit here in Arlington, it has passed us by every day, but we got a good soaking this morning, couldn't go out for my 2 mile walk this morning, but tha's O.K.
Josephine.
It's still raining here, south of Arlington. Thankfully it's slow and easy right now, but steady. I saw my one little hummer out playing. I threw a waterproof jacket and boots on over my pj's and put an empty garbage can out to collect some of the water.
Last year I had I this can under an unfinished downspout and hidden behind a big privet. But I cut down the privet and finished the downspout. We had so much rain last year that I was ending up with the barrel being full and not needing it for a while, but I will sure use it this year!
We got another inch and a half rain last night after a two inch deluge yesterday. Last night was a much slower and steadier, beneficial type rain. I am surely thankful out here on the little house on the Katy prairie!
The water caught in my buckets from this morning measures just under 2". The flowerbeds all look very happy. With the continued cloud coverage keeping the temps low, and keeing evaporation to a minimum, and with more rain forecast for the weekend, I think the beds are all going to be good for a while. My pink scullcap has blooms again!
I heard Houston had a lot of flooding. I hope no DG'ers got washed away. Is everybody present and accounted for?
I was a little worried that my DH was going to have to swim home yesterday. He works in the Galleria (big mall here) and that whole area was flooded. He made it with no trouble, though, and our house is on high ground (for Houston), so we're ok. :-)

We are high and dry in Northwest Houston/Harris County. From what I saw on the news it was mostly the east and south-southeast sides of town that got the high water...Well that and parts of I-10......better known to natives as the Katy River.
I swear we are in a Bermuda Triangle of some sort. I must admit we did get an inch of rain yesterday. Today, things were brewing up nicely with tall thunderheads. Suddenly a fierce wind blew in and cleared out Fayette County. Rain was close enough to cool us down.
Bettydee
Im so sorry you missed out on the rain....Looking at the radar this am...it looks like you may be getting some soon....Quick question, I havent been to Fayette County in years. Do yall still get the lighting bugs in the Spring? I know its a silly question, but some of my best memories are of going to my Aunt's Farm in Flatonia and all of those fireflys....
I'm out her on the "little house on the Katy Prairie" (hwy 6 N and across the attucks reservoir to the north of I10). All are well and accounted for! We got a 2" deluge on Thursday and then overnight Thursday into early Friday another inch and a half. And an inch yesterday. Yesterday's rain was real slow and steady..a good rain!
