I got just over one hour of Rain!!!! And I can still hear thunder maybe some more!!
RAIN!!
I am so jealous. We haven't seen rain since June 1st and then it was only 1/4". I'm amazed that there is still some Bermuda grass that's somewhat green. The rest of the grass is brown. I hope just dormant.
Please send some here!!!
Would if I could! I was so glad I ran out to play in the rain untill it got to hard. This is sure going to help our water bill - 125 in June...
Glad you got rain!!!! Wish you could send some my way!!
Mitch, you lucky duck, we just got a few drops here in Arlington, I sure was hoping for more. Oh Well....
Me too!! I came out of the shower and found clouds!! I thought "oh this will pass on by" but it poured for a while and rained for about an hr too. Me and my plants are so happy! My ground was so dry tho. I hope I can go at least a few days without watering again.
Send us some please, It has been over 30 days since we had rain.
Well, we finally got lucky last night, about 1/2 inch, my husband said it thundered quite a lot, but I didn't hear a thing, I must have been tired, and when I got up this morning there it was, everything watered like none of us can water, and not one spot missed.
I always say that God sure has a wonderful sprinkler system.
Those pictures are relly neat Sylvia, keep it up.
just blessed I guess - we have missed so much rain that getting a little at long last was a special way to ring in July... maybe July will have more rain in store for all of us?
Please...please I want some too........
well there are some rain dances I have heard can help :-O.
Speaking of "not a spot being missed" during a rain reminded me of something I discovered a few years ago. We were in one our many droughts and it finally rained maybe two inches or so-enough that even the dirt was wet under the mulch. So I was out pulling weeds out of that nice soft wet dirt. I got to a spot under a fence where I have rose climbing and tried to pull up some weeds from what I thought would be wet dirt. It wasn't wet. It was dry under the fence. The dirt on either side was nice and wet though. The fence is made of 2 "diameter juniper.
Somebody well east of Waco is getting rain tonight or at least a great lightening storm. We went out to enjoy the display of lightening 'cause that's all we're getting. It was spooky seeing all that lightening, but not hearing any thunder — too far away. My husband said the effects were better than the lightening "storm" in the new War of the Worlds which we saw this afternoon.
We got a whole quarter inch here during the night. We are about 13 inches below normal here.
I can't believe I missed it, but sometime overnight we got .02" of rain. Better than nothing.
I am praying for rain!...my water hose busted this morning and I had to cut off the water which is connected to the irrigation pipes. I bought another hose but I cant get the old one off! Oh mercy I am in deep doo doo ... and its a holiday weekend! Mitch tell me about that dance! I will try a 'break dance' to get some water!
Sylvia
I've been raindancin' like crazy!! It works!! it's been raining cats and dogs.... in Florida.....I need to get this raindancin down to an art, practice makes perfect.....
I have been feeling much like a yard ornament holding that water hose...it makes me nervous with no rain for days~ I have a well, and stress that it might go dry~ now I'm off to practice that raindancin' hopefully it'll work here in my backyard this time around......dry in Texas~ Debra~
I don't often wish for a storm to land on us but I know that there is a tropical storm off the coast and I am praying that it brings us some rain..no destruction...just rain.
Yeah, I heard this morning that the storm is going east, will miss us. I thought, "Darn!"
Double Darn! It started getting cloudy while I was in the pool this afternoon. Then the thunder began....lightning too! OOOOO!!! I was so excited when the wind picked up & the clouds got darker. OK, so that was 2 hours ago and now there's no wind, thunder, or clouds. You guessed it, no rain either :(
We got a small shower today in Arlington, which was very appreciated, but the sun came out full force shortly after. Still it was a blessing.
Josephine.
I have been watching the storms on the radar, on the weather channel and on the internet..and I am getting darn surly, about all the rain moving around Denton...we haven't had much actual, rain at my house, and my roses are suffering..I don't know what the water bill is, this month...I am afraid to look! I am begining to wonder if...see, we have land that is Northwest of here, and there is a well there that is operated by a windmill..so the water and the power, is no charge...I am wondering if it would be worth it, to haul a couple of barrels of water from up there, to the house, to use as water for the roses and other things....I have a barrel that is 55 gallons...the barrel has a spigot that a hose can be fastened to...so we could leave the barrel in the bed of the truck and use the water, from there...what do you think?
They are saying we may get more rain tomorrow...I sure do hope so!
Well thank goodness my water problem is solved. ...the landscape guy just came out and put a new lever on the spigot that uses the hose. which mean the hose dont get that pressure from the valve that goes to the irrigation part. I can water my pots without the pressure valve.
Gardening is surely an expensive hobby! It cost me fifty dollar to have this guy come out here..but he was impressed with my purchase of the forty dollar hose and the twenty dollar water wand...but ridiculed me for my purchase of the hose recepticle that I have to crank. I really think he is right...that hose is going to be on the ground more than in the recepticle. so now I am thinking I am really not about all that ...back to HD to exchnge for one of those recepticles that automatically rewind. Oh well! {sigh} Its only money.
Sylvia
Sylvia, as we are always saying, there are worse addictions!
Melva, I want to know what you mean by "we may get more rain tomorrow." Does that mean you have gotten some rain?! You scoundrel!! :-) (Hey, good to see you in the forum!)
I can hear my plants calling, "water! water!", even the drought tolerant ones.
(sigh!)
Maggie,
We got some...but like I say, most of the rain, you could watch on the radar as it would take a last minute veer around Denton...no more today...I worked outside for too long today, and for awhile it felt like it was going to rain, it was nice and overcast, and Humid! I was wishing it would rain! But it cleared up, and became less humid...but no rain!
Drat, and double drat!! I know the people in Louisiana are having to deal with flooding, but I sure would have liked to borrow just a bit of the storm.
I think my yard must be located on ancient Indian burial grounds--I think a lot of folks in town got some rain today but not a drop here. Got a slight sprinkle yesterday...the sun was out the whole time...36 days and counting!
Texas, we have RAIN!!!!!!! This is so great. It started about 7pm and its been raining on and off since. So far I have fill about 11 gallons worth of containers from the drainage off of the patio. I know its silly to some but its been more that a month since we have seen the strange clear liquid pouring from the heavens.
I must confess, as I stood watering... and watering.... and watering... the garden last night, about 50 raindrops fell on and around me. Sun was shining, didn't water anything, but it was nice to be reminded of rain.
We are about to get rain as I speak, here in Arlington, the sky has gotten very dark and there is thunder and strong winds, so we are about to get it.
I hope we don't lose the power. Josephine.
Well, it really came down, I don't know how much, but it was a real downpour.
My poor beautiful Phlox is now laying down on the ground,
I hope when it dries it will come back up, all in all I am very happy that we didn't have any tree limbs broken, and we didn't lose power. Josephine.
Glory, hallelujah!! I drove home today in rain! RAIN!! It was even raining at my house, has been a nice steady rain for about 45 mins, then let off a while, then started up again for about 30 minutes! I am praying that it will just continue for the rest of the night. Lots of things weren't actually watered effectively - not yet - but they at least appreciated the break from the sun and heat!
RAIN!!! YEA!!!
Maggie,
I was thinking about you on my drive home. When I left The Woodlands at 5:45 it was pouring down hard and I was hoping that you were getting some rain up there.
Thanks so much, it is really heartbreaking to drive through rain only to find everything dry as a bone at home. Did you have rain at your place?
What area of The Woodlands do you work in? I'm in the Southwood Tower near the corner of Tamina & I-45.
Its been raining off and on since I got home...but I can hear thunder in the distance so I think there is more on the way.. We live off of Fairbanks N-Houston in NW Harris County, but I work in the Stewart Title Building at the corner of Woodlands Pkwy & Six Pines....so howdy neighbor!!!!
