Anyone out there ever had Lyme disease (or curretnly have it?) I just got it for the 2nd time.
Deer ticks
levilyla, how terrible! I've never had or known anyone personally who has had Lyme disease. We live in a very rural part of East Texas & deer ticks are horrible around here. We have found that Sevin Dust works best at keeping the ticks off the dogs. Everything else, sprays, powders, drops, baths, etc never worked. I'm always scared to death of getting ticks on myself...checking all the time for 'em (in my hair & everything!) I've only found a couple so far and counting myself lucky! Hoping you feel better, Cynthia
THANKS ... IT IS A WIERD DISEASE IN THAT IT CAN REST AND THEN COME BACK SO I UNDERSTAND. BUT I HAVE BEEN BITTEN PROBABLY 10 TIMES IN THE LAST THREE WEEKS. WE LIVE IN THE WOODS AND SPRAY FOR DEER, BUT IT IS FUTILE THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM. ONE OF THE TRIALS OF GARDENING! JUST MAKE SURE IF YOU FIND ONE ON YOU TO PULL OFF WITH TWEEZERS AND CALL YOUR DOC. TO SEE IF HE THINKS YOU SHOULD START ON DOXYCYCLINE. IT SEEMS ALOT OF DOCTORS KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT IT.
I totally understand about the deer. We have them all over. Even little twins this year. They are soooo cute! I've been trying to get some pics of them...no luck so far. Our property is actually in the middle of a National Forest & the dogs are constantly running through the woods. Which reminds me, it's time to dust them again!
I was bitten by a tick that got into my hair a few years ago - and I was so sick I was begging people to just shoot me. There are other diseases that come from deer ticks - and the one I had wasn't as bad as Lyme disease. I have long, thick hair and I was wearing it in a ponytail with a ball cap at the time, but the tick still became lodged in the top of my head. My brain sweling was so bad I just can't tell you the pain.
If you ever find a tick on your body -- DO NOT PUT NAIL POLISH ON IT!!! My friend did that to mine saying it was an old remedy to snuff out the bug. It does not do that - it holds in all the germs and inflamation and makes the whole thing much, much worse.
Now that I live in the country where we are surrounded by woods and deer run wild all over North Georgia, I was so paranoid that I would get the tick fever again. Then I learned about Guinea hens. I now have 6 Guinea hens that roam all over the property eating ticks and other bugs and I have not seen a single tick this year. Thank God there are guineas to eat the ticks!!!!!
OMG I wish I could have them but not where I live. Yes there are several other tick born diseases and did you take doxycycline when you had it?
To be honest I can't remember what all I took. I know I had switched medicines several times because the first ones weren't helping. I was laid up for over a week, and it took months before I had any energy or felt good again. Now I have no qualms about saying to someone "please look in my hair and see if I have any ticks". I would do that for anyone.
