We have these things all over our lot -- wherever two plants are close together is where I usually notice them. It looks like some kind of cocoon to me, but what do I know? :-) I've never seen a spider near them.

It's hard to tell in the pic, but it looks like the leftovers from a spider's meals.
This shot is a similar one I found in my yard a couple of years ago.

Nancy, I am so glad you posted that! That's exactly what we have -- all over the garden. At least I know someone else has seen them. :-)
