Ads in forums?

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

For the first time, i noticed "google ads" in threads. So far i've found them in the perennial and the daylily forum.
The text message box is much smaller, with the ads off to either the right or left side.

Yes, also in hostas and vines & climbers.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Im noticing them too. I was just searching on how to do a screen shot, so I could show it.

Can someone tell me how to do a screen shot please?

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I was searching for the same thing, Shelly. I've noticed them in the coleus forum, but not in all threads.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

I posted this in the thread 'seeing the programming'. I too don't know how to give dave a screen shot, but here's what it said if it's any help.

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /home/www/garden/inc/dg_util.php on line 2257

This is how I do a screen shot, use my camera. It's on the bottom here and over in perennials it was on the right side.

P.S. I'm not sure I dislike it tho. Hafta think about it.

I'm seeing them too, never did before. I went to "manage my preferences" and I have it set properly where I shouldn't see the ads. I hope Dave hasn't gone home for the day.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I'm seeing Google Ads to in the Brugmansia forum and Seed Trading

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I also saw them in recipes. Somethings glitching out, I think. Dave will fix it when he has become aware of it.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

now they are in this thread too! I sent the staff an email about it.

I'm guessing they must be in every thread. I noticed some at the very bottom of the page now.

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

It also appears to be a subset of the ads. I temporarily changed my preferences to allow ads to be viewed, and there was an additional one at the top of the page in addition to the google ads.

Here's a screen shot.

(On a PC, open up Paint from your Accessories folder. Go to whatever you want to do the screen shot of, do CTRL-PrintScreen/SysRq, return to Paint, click on the Edit pulldown, and select Paste. Then you may save the file as a BMP or JPG and upload it like any other pic.)

LOL Molly.. good idea! I thought there was something if you hit the "Print Scrn SysRq" button you could do it. I will remember the camera trick tho.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

I'm getting them too.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Shelly,

Evidently there is a way like you said, Tutti did it, but I'm not that smart. Camera is quicker. heehee.

I am interested in learning how to do that collage picture thingy. Don't know who has the time to teach me.

The ads are annoying, aren't they? It makes the forum area so small.

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

I tried updating my profile to allow ads, then change it back to not allow ads, and that did not help. It must be a programming glitch that is causing DG to ignore the "do you want to see ads" setting. I used Firefox Adblock to block *.googlesyndication.com/* - that gets rid of the ads, but now it looks like some threads display too narrow, as if the page has reserved space for the ad that would have appeared on the left had it not been blocked.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I do think they are annoying. Way too much 'eye clutter' for me.

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

I edited my screen shot post for a quickie how-to. Don't ask me about Macs, though. ;)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Dave, did we all finally misbehave really badly to make you do this? LOL

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Donna,

Thanks for showing us how to do that on a PC. Kewl.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Or maybe he's allowing them on there for a bit so we all have more appreciation for them NOT being there when he takes them away?

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

I just popped in here to see if I was the only one.... We must have been really bad, they're everywhere! I don't like them!

On a Mac, there is a Utility Called "Grab" in the Utilities folder under Applications. It only makes screen shots, or specific areas of a screen.

Coshocton, OH(Zone 6a)

i agree, i don't like them!

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Yeah, I see them too, dont like them either. I hope its nothing hes going to make us get used to.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I think it's just a glitch. He'll fix it when he finds out about it. I think he's gone home for the day. Good thing today isn't Friday!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Put it this way - if it's about money, I'd be willing to pay $20 instead of $15 a year if I don't have to look at the ads.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Thank you Tutti and Darius!

I don't like the idea of them, but I also have not seen any. I use the Firefox browser.

auugh do we know how to get ride of these stupid ads yet?

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

LOL...I was just thinking that this would have been a good April Fool's Day joke from Dave!

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

It's all about money... hey we don't generate enough income to keep the website afloat.. do with them or do without!!!

Screen Shots, TuttiDear, require just pressing the "Print Screen" key. NOT the "Ctrl" key also.
To capture a popup window only, you press the "Alt" key simultaneously.

You can also paste it into your photo processing program. Everyone should have the nifty (and free!) IrfanView, available here: http://irfanview.com/

Perhaps something like this should be added to the F.A.Q.S., Terry?

Edited to embolden Terry.

Sorry, that was my fault. I added new code and forgot to include the "don't show this to subscribers" code. :) It's fixed now.

You de MAN!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Good, I spend more time on this site than anywhere and the last thing I need is a bunch of click and shop! LOL There are enough hyperlinks to keep me in trouble.

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

Thank you for clarifying that, UlrichDear. ;-) I generally only want to capture a window and not my full screen.

How nice to again not have the ads. Yay!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I told you he'd fix it! Thanks Dave! :-) and (((hugs))) for Fathers Day! (you are the dad of Dave's Garden).
