I have a sugar maple tree (at least, as far as I can tell!) that has had aphids. Now, I found this wormy thing on one of the leaves. Is it eating the aphids, or is it another bad guy? It's kind of a pale yellowy-green.
Thanks,
Kelly
What's this on my maple?
ceallachg - it is difficult to tell, but it could be a hover fly larvae (family Syrphidae). They eat aphids.
I might've also guessed that it could be a sawfly larva (that would be bad), but generally they hang out in groups, so maybe it isn't a sawfly larva.
Hi
I think you're right--I recognize the hover fly because it was flying around my roses today, too. Thank you! I'm glad to see nature is once again catching up with the aphids. :)
Kelly
