Some observations - how seeds do from trades

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

I have got numerous seeds from trades esp. from the USA. I have tried to grow them here. Some have succeeded in germinating, some have failed to sprout and quite a few have grown pretty well, adjusting to the tropical climate of the plains of my city. Summer max. is about 38C and winter min. is about 13C. Around the year it fluctuates between 20 and 27 on an average. Humidity is not that high here, being away from shores from either side of the peninsula.

The problem I have noticed with plants and even bulbs growing with me from these is that it gets easily infested esp. with ants. They seem to get attracted to these in particular. So, I have begun to keep in separate pots and in such places that ants cannot trace their way into the pothole. Termites too tend to have a liking for them. I wonder why this attraction is observed. Are they easy 'prey'. What could be the reason for this phenomenon? The brugmansia plant is doing well, the other is suffering. Two plumerias have been doing nicely though - grown from seed 3 years ago. Some of the seemingly established plants tend to wilt even when a bit of sun shines on them. May be the seeds are from colder zones and they are genetically tuned to a particular range. Will its next generation adjust better? Another thing... when some plants flower, they do not go to seed as profusely as it should.
