I have some chicken grit; would it be possible that slugs would not want to crawl across it. I don't know what it is made of-possibly crushed oyster shells? What do you think?

I would give it a try!! There are many good articles on the internet which describe the life cycle. I use DE, go to the above link for details.

Gloriag, I have "seen the light' when it comes to slug control. I have been using "Sluggo", a biodegradable, pet and critter safe slug bait. It really works for me--a bit pricey but worth it.
Go get 'em!
