DG slow?

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

An Osborne, which is still in the attic, was our sons first. I never could figure it out.

From the IBM website: http://www-03.ibm.com/ibm/history/history/decade_1880.html
"Although IBM was incorporated in the state of New York on June 15, 1911 as the Computing- Tabulating- Recording Company (C-T-R), its origins can be traced back to developments at the close of the 19th century. For example, the first dial recorder was invented by Dr. Alexander Dey in 1888, and Dey's business became one of the building blocks of C-T-R. Similarly, the Bundy Manufacturing Company was incorporated in 1889 as the first time recording company in the world, and it, too, later became a key component of C-T-R"

Kind of ironic that an invention (time-clocks) meant to regulate, control, and keep watch over employees has evolved to become one of the great banes to employers today. I love it!

My first computer was a Franklin which was a Japanese clone of an Apple in 1983.

My first job was working for a subsidiary of IBM - I was a keypuncher. I worked in an office that had about 75 keypunch machines. Those babies threw off a lot of heat and there was no air conditioning except for the glassed-in room where the mainframe computer was. We would watch the computer operators walking around in shirtsleeves as cool as cucumbers while the sweat poured off of us. Sometimes we had to shut down all the KP machines for a few hours to try to cool the room down. That was in the summer of '68. I keypunched a LOT of Cobol programs that year. The next year I went to Woodstock and became a hippie. :^)

And blew our minds!!!

ahem

My parents were the proud (really - no sarcasm!) owners of a RadioShack TRS-80. We were probably one of the first small businesses and/or families to own a computer in Trinidad, CO (located in the rather dry and dusty southeastern foothills of the state ;o)

My little brother was pretty good at programming it, and he had books with code to create his own games. Yes, my darling children...back in mom's childhood, we had to MAKE our own fun, even down to keying and debugging our own computer games. (Unless you were lucky enough to have "pong" on your TV... we had that, too! *grin*)

Terry, it's no wonder that you grew up to be a DG Administrator! LOL

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

I had given up posting any pictures because they weren't going through, thought I was having puter problems. I have been working with gardenwife to learn how to make my pictures smaller so I could send them better, then I couldn't send at all. I thought my world was coming to an end. Then DG was going so slow I knew my wireless internet wasn't working at all. I was about ready to have a tamper temper or whatever kids have.

Movin' rite along now.

Tucson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Heck, it's going so fast I thought it wasn't reloading and kept hitting Refresh!

:)

Pocola, OK(Zone 7a)

I'm getting a lot of page cancellations, enough that I decided to come to Dave's Garden forum to see if something was going on.

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

I haven't tried today but yesterday afternoon I was getting a lot of unable to view this page, I had to keep hitting refresh a bunch of times to get it to go. Let me start going through the forum and see what it does now.

No more problems for me I have yet to try sending a photo, but will give it a try after bit.

Spoke to soon starting to get," the page cannot be displayed" again.

Dave, would it be possible to put some kind of downtime note at the top of the Home Page or even in a corner of the logo? Kind of like a marquee line, though not necessarily running across the screen.

I don't think everyone follows this particular Forum; just some of us die-hards. :)

SE GA, GA(Zone 8a)

I am not having any problems with the reply box, but I am having to click on the links several times before they will load. Everything has to be clicked multiple times. Even refresh.

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

There is something terribly wrong with the server, or something. Pages aren't loading completely (no reply box) and sometimes not at all. I just hope the new hardware will fix the problems.

Monday, right? I've got a lot to do in the garden this weekend anyway. ;-)
