Starting seeds in July, is it possible?

Ladysmith, BC(Zone 8a)

I have so many seeds in my stash and a lot of the perennials I 'winter planted' have not germinated so far (I assume they are now long dead?)

What I wonder is, can I try and germinated perennials now - in July, either in the greenhouse (hot as hades) or outside (damp and miserable)?

We have had, once again a typical West Coast lousy wet spring, and so far summer looks like it too will be wet and miserable, fall is the only time it seems to brighten up and be nice!!

I sow seeds whenever I get them, and in nature some of them would be falling to the ground now, so I'd go ahead and try it (outside - they might get cooked in the greenhouse). And don't give up on the ones that didn't germinate from winter sowing - sometimes they take a year or more to come through.

I'm still planting everyday!!! Only half though, but I've got so many thanks to wonderful trades that I just can't wait!

I planted my veggie garden one year on 4 July and it was quite successful - and i intend to plant out a whole bunch of seeds this weekend or early next week - too many seeds, not enough me to get them all in before now.

did the sweet peas come up???

I always heard you were supposed to start your fall garden in July, spring garden between Oct. - Jan. for bulbs and perennials.....but, I know that your zone is the predominant factor there. Good
luck!

Go for it. You are far enough north and in a coolish climate anyhow so they might think it is spring.

GO FOR IT, IF YOU ARE PLANTING PERENNIALS THEY NEED APPROX. TWO MONTHS TO ESTABLISH ROOTS BEFORE WINTER...
