Midwestern lilies: let the show begin!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I do like that Coloseo!

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

yummmy all of them

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I agree with you Tazzy! I've never seen a lily that doesn't stop me in my tracks for at least a few minutes. They all seem so perfect. Black Jack has me mesmerized this year. It is just such a haunting color.

Here's Black Jack again. I think it is my favorite of the Asiatics. I planted 2 bulbs last fall and one sent up a stalk that is about 3' tall and the other one sent up 4 stalks that are maybe 18" tall. They look funny together.

Wow, I like black jack. I have a red "glowing" lily which I simply adore. They tend to be really powerfull colors.. like they glow...

Can you tell me if you think this is black jack ??

I will take a better picture this year.. this one is from last year...

Powerfull red asiatic lily

This is one of the 50 for $14.95 asiatic lilies from directgardening.com
It is a "standard asiatic" (a.k.a. weeds .. ha ha !!) but a few of them are REALLY nice. This color is so powerful.

What a deal! Nice reds - they're so hard to photograph! Even without direct sun or flash they usually get that sheen that makes them look more orange or whitish areas. Blackjack has a distinct, very dark patch in the proximal part of the petal.

Susan, how many buds did you get on your Blackjack? I got 2 stalks out of each bulb with 4 buds each. (I think!)

love that Sani Souci

Ditto that Tazzy. You guys are so lucky ~ I want smelly lilies too!! I think my next lily to open up is going to be African Queen.

PS. You better not show us up KD, or we're going to have to send you back to the East coast! ;)

Love San Souci and Silk Road. My SR has buds. Great photo of BJ Moby! My tall one has 4 buds. 2 of the short stalks have 2 bud each and the other 2 have 3 each, so guess I'm getting the most buds for the bulb out of that one even if they are really short. Will be interesting to see how big they are. None open yet.

debcooper53.. THis one create so many bulblets in fall so if you are interested, I can mail some to you.

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Sounds good...I would luv to have some of the bulblets. I'll send you an email later this summer and let you know what I have available at that time and maybe we can do a trade.

Thanks, Deb

Hey !! we have not posted any new lilies for a while...

Let's start again...

Miss France

and asiatic "antarctica" (from buggycrazy, of course)

Moby needs a Miss France

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

But of course, Madame. Le sigh....

(yeah, I know I stole that from someone. I'd forgotten about my ol' fave Pepe LePew)

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Gee, it must be nice to have lilies that the bunnies haven't eaten. Maybe a few more of my survivors will bloom soon.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I truly feel your pain, Wanda. I just had a dream a couple nights ago about battling bunnies ~ I was on my knees digging in the soil and a tiny bunnie was to my left so I bopped him with my hand spade. When I looked again there was just a little poof like the seedhead of a dandelion. I yelled at DS to get DH, he comes running and I told him "There are bunnies everywhere!!" And there were! ~ even sitting in the branches of my columbine. For some reason they were only about the size of a quarter... Very weird.

Gran Cru

Ahhh.. grand cru.. hopefully mine bloom this year... It has been a few years since I grew it last.

Here is "Eurydice" a very pretty Asiatic lily in pink

That San Souci is gorgeous

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Moby, have you been smoking that sweet grass again? Bunnies the size of a quarter hopping around???

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

...*sigh*... only in my dreams.... But the 'quarter size' ones are so much easier to dispatch and there was no mess!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I'm so glad my newest neighbor has 2 outdoor cats. Add mine and the 2 that live behind me and the 5 of them seem to be doing a great job of keeping us all bunny rabbit free this year. Antarctica is a beauty. I will have to check buggycrazy out this fall.

Susan

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Desert Song started out as a vry bright orange for me and I wasn't too crazy about it, but it has faded to a lovley apricot color with a white center and I really like it now. I think I will move it next to Orania this fall since they bloom at the same time. Orania has just a tinge f apricot around the edges. I ususally have to move things 2 or 3 times before I find the right combintions. Think I may move Wild One and Mary Todd daylilies near them too, so that they will provide a big splash of color all together.

Very pretty colors, Susan. You seem to have great design ideas. Mine are limited to digging a hole where there happens to be room.

Kenneth

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

ditto here!
but appearances can be deceiving .
I am out of room but not out of wants ?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Most of my new daylilies and lilies all went just were there was room for them last year. Now it will be a long process to watch when they bloom and move things around. I'm like you Tazzy. Out of room, but not wishes! I'm already using the driveway for pots and adding more arbors so I can grow up and lately, I've been looking at my garage roof, thinking it's too bad it's not flat, then I could garden up there. Grass is already all gone. Paths may have to become narrower. My Mom asked me once what I would want if she ever won the lottery and I Arn't we gardeners silly? At least it helps keep us young in spirit.

Susan

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

You know Susan, I was thinking... (a dangerous occupation for me!) have you considered looking in to doing a little gardening in the boulevard? I bet it would be OK.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

You mean across the street in the park? I've thought of it, but think it's too shady for daylilies. I've also been checking out the areas around the hospital parking lot. Some good possiblities there, but I want things close so I can enjoy them!

Susan
