Star Wars, Episode III

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

I just returned from seeing Star Wars, Revenge of the Sith. We're exhausted, but a good time was had by all!

YOu folks are strange, lol

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

My nephew went last night...haven't heard a report back yet...he's got finals today ..(ouch)

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Woodspirit:
That's what a lot of people tell us. Some of our significant others and children wouldn't go with us because they can't handle the costumes. LOL

Melody:
Ouch is right! I have the rest of the week off from work so I had the luxury of sleeping in today. I hope your nephew stays awake and does well on his finals.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

He was going in costume too...but will probably get some strange looks....a 'non Star Wars entity'...he's got a presentation today on the 1960's at school, and I just finished up his attire...(they have to dress in clothing that was in fashion) He came over yesterday afternoon for a final fitting and was thrilled with the outcome...couldn't believe that I pulled it off in less than 24 hours...said he was wearing it last night to the movies! I told him that 60's clothing was like riding a bike...you never forget how once you've done it!

By the way...my DH and I saw the original Star Wars on our honeymoon the week it opened...a friend of his in the city we visited (Detroit) stood in line 4 hours for tickets for us as a wedding present...we were in the first 10 rows...THAT was an experience! ....(and now you can tell about how old I am...as I remember 60's clothing and saw the original Star Wars in theater)

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Melody:

What a story! I love it and I'm going to share it with my Star Wars buddies. I was 12 years old when the first movie (Episode IV) was released. I was in junior high school in Philadelphia and my friends and I talked about the movie for weeks. That was 28 years ago so now you know how old I am. :-) My love for Star Wars has never waned.

I would like to see the 60s attire you made for your nephew. If you photographed him, please post it. Also, please tell him that I hope the Force was with him when he took his finals. :-)

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

LOL Delecie if the DH could have found a way he'd have been right with you. And dressed up too! Both of us played SWG and he's a major fan of the movies. It has killed him that he's having to wait to see it. We went through the same for LOTR and I can tell you I'd much rather sit next to Chewie than a Hobbit!

Saint

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

LOL araness! Are you saying that your DH dressed up as a hobbit for LOTR? Are the two of you planning to see Star Wars this weekend? If he dresses up, please photograph him and post it here. Are you dressing up too?

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

lol..nope not dressing up. I didn't have time to make anything so he's going to have to go as plain ol himself. When we go to the RenFest he laughs at me for my garb but heck he'll jump into a stormtrooper outfit in a heartbeat. Men!

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

The costumes and role playing for Star Wars reminds me of The Rocky Horror Picture Show of a couple years back. Lots of fun and good memories.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

LOL..Oh yes except I don't think we could throw rice or have the open umbrellas these days. But boy that was fun!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

ahem.......I actually dressed up and 'did' the Rocky Horror Picture show in College...

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Here's the picture of the 60's garb...the guitar is covering up his macrame peace sign necklace....I just didn't want to burst in on your thread delecie...but since you asked......

The tye-dye tee shirt is done by me too...my Mom had a fit one day when she came home from work and I had used her washing machine to tye-dye my curtains and bedspread! She was NOT happy...been working with fabric & dye ever since...

I saw it last night (this morning-ugh) in Grand Rapids. I thought it was pretty good, but boy was it sad! I cried through the whole ending. Not that it was a surprise, you knew what was going to happen, but it was like watching a train derail-there was nothing you could do to stop it. Hubby says I'm way too sentimental. Anyway, I liked the movie and I think Hayden Christiansen was much better in this one, made his suffering seem awfully real.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

At least we know Darth Vader turns, no surprises there. I want to watch the last two new installments again before going to this one. Loved the pictures! Which one is you?

You're right - it is like Rocky Horror! Been there, done that, too.

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Melody:

Your nephew's outfit is groovy! You did a wonderful job, he looks like he just stepped out of a time machine.

Sylvi:

You're right, it was horribly sad! We ususally sit in the theatre after a Star Wars movie to watch the credits and discuss it but this movie was so heavy that we immediately left and stood outside of the theatre. There are a few things that surprised us in the movie so I know we'll go to see it again and discuss those things later.

Gardenwife:

I did the same thing, I watched episodes I and II before seeing episode III. Technically, it's Anakin who turns to the dark side, not Darth Vader. He becomes Darth Vader after he turns. I'm the one in the red wig, Mara Jade Skywalker. If you're interested, you can read about her in the Character Databank at http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/marajadeskywalker/index.html

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

LOL Delecie! Too cute! DH and I will also go after we watch the first 2 again before we go.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oops, Anakin, you're right. Kinda wish I'd gone to one of the late-night showings now. I watched news clips with interviews of fans last night, and that was fun. :)

In 1999, when The Phantom Menace came out, Howie's boss treated the department to an afternoon at the movies. They all just took off and went. This boss had a yearly sci-fi movie night and auction (you get tokens for bringing various things to the party, and bid with them at the evening's end). That was definitely a perk at his old company.

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Hi Shelly! Are you and your DH dressing up? If you do, please post photographs.

Today is an all Star Wars day for me. I watched episode IV this morning and I'm watching episode V now. Just one more episode to go before I call it a day. :-)

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Got another Star Wars story for you delecie....this same nephew was here at the house and we'd just finished watching something on a movie channel....he was about 10 or 11...(he's 16 now) They were running trailers of upcoming movies and suddenly he stopped completely still and his eyes got as big as saucers.....

It was a trailer for a Harrison Ford movie.....he just sat there stunned....then said.....'That's Han Solo...but he's OLD!" It had never occured to him that Harrison just played a part...just like he's done for many years...to him, he _was_ Han Solo.

(this was also the year that he 'introduced' us to the great new show...Gilligan's Island)

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Delecie,

I've heard this Star Wars is very violent and very dark for young kinds (8 & 10). Having seen it, what do you think?

Thanks!
GG

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! THIS PARAGRAPH CONTAINS SPOILERS! USE THE OLD JEDI MIND TRICK AND SKIP THIS PARAGRAPH!!! (How's that for a warning Gardenwife, did I do good? LOL) MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!!!

Hi GG,
Episode III is darker than the others. When Anakin goes to the dark side, he kills the young children who are training to become Jedis. They don't show him killing them but they show their bodies on the floor of the Jedi temple. They show the Jedis in combat being murdered one by one and Anakin also tries to kill Padme by choking her with the Force. When Anakin and Obi-Wan duel, Anakin loses his left arm (he lost his right arm in Attack of the Clones), both legs, and then his body catches fire and he is engulfed in flames. Padme also dies after giving birth and her funeral procession is shown. Anakin cuts off Master Windu's arm when Mace is fighting with the Emperor/Darth Sidious and the Emperor kills Master Windu with lightening and hurls him out the window. The Emperor becomes hideous in that scene.

Melody:
You have the best stories! And the part about Gilligan's Island is too funny!

LOL Delecie! NO we wont be dressing up LOL. Sure looks like fun tho. Now we really have to go see it! I was reading this to DH, and he said "STOP!!! I dont want to know!!" LOL

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Ahhhh, sheesh. Warn us of spoilers next time! :( *sobbing*

;) LOL

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

I'm sorry Gardenwife. :-( But you're absolutely right! I'm going to correct that right now! :-) And Shelley, I hope you didn't read too much of it to your DH, I don't want to become persona non grata! LOL

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Hey, thanks, delecie! You might want to slap a few more carriage returns in there. ;)

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Shew glad I stayed up til ya'll got that solved.(;>)

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Gardenwife, I can learn a lot from you. Are you a secret Jedi Master, Obi-Gardenwife Kenobi? LOL

LOL sugarweed. Are you really up late or are you an early riser like me? After the wonderful plant bargain I got yesterday, I think the Force must have been with me. I dreamed about plants last night and although I tried to talk myself out of it, in a few hours I'm going to get into my car to see if I can locate "NURSERY" again to see what else I can find. This link will explain what I'm talking about so that you don't have to use the old Jedi mind trick to figure it out. LOL http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/512481/

What a riot!! There was a blurb on the radio news not too long ago, announcing that payroll for big computer companies would go down about 65 million on this weekend. They went on further to explain that all the computer nerds would call off either Thursday and or Friday so they could go see the new movie. They ended up saying something along the lines of, if your computer went down this weekend, you might as well forget about getting help. Well, I am married to a computer nerd. LOL He didn't go see it, but I am sure he will eventually. If any of the kids were into it, he would have gone by now. He did tell me yesterday that several people came in late or left early. Guess why? LOL

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

LOL yep I have friends in Orlando that the 90% of the office called out to go see the movie.

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Chele:

My friend Omar is a computer nerd but he went to work after seeing the 12:01 show. Can you believe it? Anyway, he's only 23 years old so that might explain it. I had Thursday and Friday off. I requested the time in April and my boss said, "Hmmm, two consecutive days, is there a special ocassion?" I said, "Of course there is, Star Wars is opening." Then I started humming the Star Wars Main Title theme. He got this really annoyed look on his face and walked away muttering something about he should have known better than to ask me. LOL Out of the goodness of my heart I even offered to take in the soundtracks from Episodes IV-VI to help my co-workers get in a Star Wars mood but they all vehemently said, "NO!", at the same time. I think they've all gone to the dark side. LOL

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

LOL I know how that can be. When I was active in the SCA I would take long weekends to go to events etc. My boss stopped asking why because he said he did not want to have to know he was giving me time off to play dress up and run around with a wooden sword and play. HUMF he was so off base, my sword isn't wood! :)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

This thread is so funny!

I saw the original Star Wars early in its 1977 opening run. I lived in the Chicago suburbs at the time, and was ten years old. My dad took me to see it and I remember climbing up onto the top of his big Ford Econoline work van and looking at the long line of people snaking around the theater. I think we sat in the aisle that evening. Greedy theater, eh?

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks Delecie!
