Can Some one answer a few questions please?

I posted this in the Rose Forum several days ago ---- not one answer, I'm new at rose growing --- here are my questions:
(please dont send me back to the 'rose' forum)
Hi all you experts! I recieved a Rose Bush form DD/DSIL for Mothers Day, it's a 'Knockout' , the flowers are very pretty and I've read that the Knockout is an exceptionally easy and carefree rose bush to own --- so I'm thrilled!

And now for my question........it has rose hips on it already (I thought that was a 'fall event') I'm not sure what to do with the Rose hips....do I cut them off? Do I leave them on? Can you start a rose from seed inside the rose hips? Why and why not please. Also .......if I dead head the spent blooms will that prevent the Rose hips from developing? I'm guessing thats where the rose hips come from.Sorry ....... I know very little about roses.

Thanks, Jill

Hi Momof2d, first off, the Knockout is the easiest rose I have ever had! I have now discovered it in pink and can't wait to get one.

I would go ahead and deadhead it. You will continue to get blooms as long as you keep doing this. I get blooms until fall.

As for the rosehips and seeds; I've always been told that unless you are sure your bush was not grafted onto a nurse root, then you won't get the same thing from the seeds. Most roses are grafted onto hybrid tea roots so it's also important that you cut any suckers that you might see coming up from below the graft line.

Hope this helps some.

Thanks Garden Girl, that helps a bunch! I will dead head the spent blooms and the rose hips .... it's looking a little poor but after I prune it I'm sure it will bounce back, I just really did not know if I should or should not get rid of the rose hips, now I know and I can start making it look healthier. I've heard the Knock out is a wonderful plant, I cant wait to take care of my new baby. Thanks for setting me straight! Jill

Not a problem Jill. I deadhead all of my roses once the blooms are "spent". It makes a new shoot pop out from the place.

BTW, if you are interested, I just purchased two rose bushes from a site called Krazy Keith's. Other DG'ers have used them and said how great the plants were. It appears that these roses are extra stock from Wayside Gardens (which is very expensive (IMO). Anyway, the roses are CHEAP! I got a pink Knock Out for $6.95.
