A few of my shrubby plants have this same problem this year. My new smoke bush, holly (or some other kind of evergreen) and a rose of sharon. The tips of the branches have blackened leaves with are crispy.
Black, Crisping Leaves
I expect that it is a fungus of some sort.
What I was trying to remember was Fire Blight. I hope someone who knows will look at this at let us know.
Me too! It seems to be going away on the smoke bush. The leaves were healthy to a point, then the blackness occured, then it surpassed it with healthy growth.
