winter moth

Wayland, MA(Zone 6a)

I was told to look out for winter moth and I believe I have the catarpilars on a few shrubs. From what I understand this is a bad one, likes just about everything and will defoliate a forest if allowed to thrive. I am not sure if it is cylical like gypsy moth. Has anyone else got it? any hope ?
I hate to use anything that will kill other wild life and I abut deep woods so I am not sure if treating my little shrubs will be sort of pointless, Laura

laura - just saw your note about the dreaded wintermoth. yes, they'll defoliate lots of different trees - i've read that you can spray the caterpillars with BT, that is better to use then things like Sevin. I've been squishing mine, but they are EVERYWHERE (and we have them in our huge beech trees, so it seems kinda fruitless to spray the little shurbs beneath, but at least i can reach those!). they have just introduced a predatory fly in hingham i think - say it'll take 3yrs for it to really work on this wintermoth population, can't wait - they really do a number on some of our shrubs & trees.
good luck!
