whats wrong with this

i bought this gardenia at a nursery, had a few yellow leaves but now it looks like this,been that way since march.put everything it said to use but nothing has helped,even moved it twice.it put a few leaves on tips of branches but is dyeing now, if any body has a idear to help this poor plant,i will try anything ,i even put rusty nails down in grown , next thing is plant heaven.

You mean that's not normal? I thought gardenias always did this. That's the main reason I avoid them now.

Gardenias are soooooooo easy. The most important thing is to buy a healthy one to start with! If the nursery or box store has let them get too dry, chances are they will die later. Signs that the plant has been too dry(even if it feels wet when you buy it): yellow leaves, shriveled leaves, falling buds and lack of luster in the leaves. Gardenias like to be moist, need a little shade but need well drained potting mix, they do not like wet feet or to stand in a pot of dirt that doesn't drain(Walmart puts those pot covers under theirs and they hold too much water).
I plant mine in a mixture of peat, composted pine bark and a little sand. I fertilize only with Azalea/Rhodendron food and give chelated iron once a year.

thank you so much far that, i finally throwd this one away,
going to a different nursery and find one like you said,will plant it and fertlize it like you said,you didn,t say sun are part sun are all shade.will go this weekend and get one,are there different kind.thanks again
