Over Watered, and don't know What To Do

Paris, TX(Zone 8a)

Someone, please help me. I planted some snaps and coleus in a container, and watered it. Everything looked great, but the next time I watered, it rained all night. The coleus looks fine, but the snaps are droopy and drowned. Is there anything I can do to save them?

Yes, water more... with a solution of 10% hydrogen peroxide in the water. Brings oxygen to the drowned roots. Take off any drip trays until it all runs through thoroughly.

Whew! I'm so glad they can be saved. How much water, and how much 10% peroxide?

Mix 1 part regular peroxide to 9 parts water. I'd make a quart or so...

That sounds easy enough. Thanks again.

Whether it would help or not, I don't know - but I think you can safely use a lower dilution ratio (1:5 or 1:3) in this case. I've also found water-saturated soil can be helped by taking a toothpick or other slender "skewer" type instrument and gently poking several holes around the root area. Slowly and gently - you don't want to traumatize the roots any more than necessary, but it will help open up some passages for air to enter.

Let us know how it's doing.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't tried it yet. I did stick breathing holes in it as Terry suggested, but I've been so exhaused and overwelmed with some unexpected concerns, that I forgot the little guy...Bad Mama!!(slapping self on hand) I plan to work in the yard tomorrow, so I'll most likely be trying the peroxide solution then.

I'll let you know if it works...if it's not already too late.
