hiya BloomsWithaView,
Long time no chat. It would be a much richer event if you were able to attend. Vail Lake does have a camping area, yet I'm not sure if it's a membership kind of thing. There is a website. http://www.vaillakeresort.com/
Round Up in San Diego
Naah - There's a Nat'l Forest campground in Oak Grove.. I see it on my way from Anza to Temecula when that's the route I take to 'Spin's house from Utah.
No point in looking on a map, it's just that sometimes the Anza gets between Utah and Santa Ana?? LOL
... It's not that I luv to drive around and look at this country,
it's just that I l-u-v to drive around and look at this country.
and ps... I hate that Ortega Highway at night.

Ok, now that this is coming clear, can someone give me an idea how the plant trading works at these round ups? Do you just bring plants and see if anyone wants to trade or what? Sorry about the questions, just never been to one of these.
thanks,
Mark
At the recent RU we had for central TX, some people posted ahead of time what they had, and asked people how many of what they wanted. Those people had a LOT of stuff, so that way they only brought what people wanted. Some of us didn't have near as much (I'm not that great at propagation), so we just brought what we had, and people took what they wanted.
Two things I recommend:
1) It's okay for people to come without plants to swap. The main idea is that people get to meet face to face and enjoy each other's company (but I can tell you that it's neat to plant things in your garden you may not have otherwise tried, and that you know came from a DG friend.)
2) Do whatever you can to LABEL the plants! When people get home they don't always remember what is what, and don't know where to plant or even what to look up on PlantFiles.
Sorry for butting in. You guys will have a great time!!
all help welcomed maggiemoo, those are good suggestions.
I'm glad to see Texas looks in on California. I'm plain nosy and look in on everybody. /;-)
Ya know I went to roundup forum looking for this thread when I lost almost all my watched thread - being re-(something or other) back to mid-April.
It is all new to me and I do not know what to bring, what will look good in a month an a half. I have started doing some stuff with an eye towards the roundup. Mostly I want to connect names with actual people and am greatly looking forward to it.
WOW!
I am so happy I reveiced the email about this thread and the RU.
I get very busy around here, and don't look t all the threads....
Can't wait to meet everybody. This will be my first, and sounds like I should get some plants together........
Oh what is a guy to do?
Mission Bay or Temecula.....both would be great........What a nice offer for the ranch......
It should be great!
Food? Food? I better start thinking here.....
Thanks again.......
Jeff

Hi Jeff
We will be at the ranch.
SoCal (Donna) is going to be posting soon about the plant swap here so stay tuned. I expect she will start a thread for it. I think trading is a combo of prearranged trades and bring sturr to swap. I have things started but will not bring others if no one wants them ie. not hauling jade or elephant bush unless someone need them for their garden. Keep watching
Janice
If you have card tables or something to set your tradwares on you may bring them. We will be setting up kind of a long table for those of you who will need something to set your plants on. There will be lots of hoses and watering cans available to keep your precious chlorophyll children hydrated. If your plants require reverse osmosis water we will also have that available in the greenhouse.
Sharpie pens and plant tags will also be available to all who need them.
Hope everyone is having a colorful spring morning.
Don
Hate sounding so dumb Don, but what is reverse osmosis water? LOL sharpie pens and plant tags is a nice thought. And the ground would work for plants would it not? A table is grandness. This will be so much fun. I simply 'must' make it back across the country in time for it. ~Blooms
Blooms
Lots of us in SoCal use reverse osmosis water because the water is sooooooo bad! It's a filtering system and is cheaper than buying bottled water -- which sometimes is just r/o water anyway. Folks who grow orchids, have pet birds, or just like good water without chemicals are prime users.
k
hiya blooms!,
kaperc is correct on several accounts in our case. I grow orchids, really sensitive Masdevallias and other upper elevation genera as well. They cannot abide by our rather 'non-potable' tap water. We also installed it so I can plumb it to the icemaker I'll be installing in our backyard garden cantina if I ever finish the other five or fifty projects going now....lol. Tables would keep our doggies away from the plants. The last thing I need is for the Jack Russell to express his opinions through his kidneys on someone's prized tradewares. And Dahlia is a theif who may abscond with something valuable that she likes the taste of. She's nuts about Cilantro, Parsley, and Arugula if anyone is bringing seedlings...lol.
WOW! I have not sneaked into the CA forum in AGES...and look what I about missed! y DGD lives in Imperial Beach...now...how far to the ranch (which is AWESOME by the way), Drdon?
I will not be bringing any plants...but will bring something as a door prize. And a BIG hunger for chocolates! Jo
Hurrah, Jo's coming.
Jo, it is an hour and some from there. I will fetch you if she is not interested in attending or has the duty.
I told everyone that they must bring a dish AND chocolate!! Lol
Janice...I will owe you a HUG....and I'll share the chocolates! Jo
For any of you who are only Watching this thread, please see Part 2 that Janice has started. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/510843/
Donna
Drdon...after perusing the pictures of ya'lls ranch...it seems that I don't have to hurry back to AZ after all!! Especially if you know where Pam keeps the "good stuff". LOL Of course I would hope to see a golf cart there so I can get around to seeing the beautiful horses.
I lived in Va. Beach for a number of years...have you ever heard of CashVan Stables? They sell Arabians. Jo
hiya roadrunner,
Pam said she's heard of some pretty famous Arabian stables in Virginia. But that one didn't ring a bell immediately. Our horses are warmbloods, but she does breed Trakehners, which have alot of Arabian horse in them. We look forward to your visit. Such distinguished guests, very exciting indeed!
Imperial Beach is easy. We have friends down there and visit their ranch regularly.
be well,
Don
*looking behind me to see who he is calling a "distinguished guest"* LOL
I'm used to being called "hey you"...just don't call me Old Lady...Or Granny...OK on Nana, Grandma and Grandnan (my GREAT grandkids name for me)....but be sure to call me when the chocolates are served...
Seriously, I am truly looking forward to meeting all of you....and showing off my DGD that is in the US Navy. Jo
Seriously, I am truly looking forward to meeting all of you....and showing off my DGD that is in the US Navy.
Now that IS a distinguished guest. :-)
Yes she is...and I will bring photos to impress!! OK....so I am a good Nana....Brag at the drop of a picture. LOL Jo
Hi Don!
Turns out my first DG friend is a big wig!
I would come to the round up (my folks live in Dan Diego) But I will be in Cozumel that week ! It seems we have converging amusements !
A.!
Cozumel, very nice.
We spend a lot of our time down in Mexico and the Yucatan/ Central America. It should be a great time there with most of the tourist crowds having already bailed out for cooler climes. Are you a scuba diver?, Belize is fabulous at that time of year the corals are spawning and there is incredible life in the Mangroves.
What about me, I'm I still invited?
How can we help, We are willing to bring a few people with us from the San Fernando Valley. I still need to know where it is going to be Where, Why, When, What hour, Who to bring. Norma
There is no excuse not to come. I plan to bring several flats of labeled plants. What are you bringing to the trade. ??? ???
Oh my....I have always wanted to meet you Norma!
Since I will be flying each way I will only bring my "anticipation", and my camera........and something to eat...and my Granddaughter! Jo

Ok you guys, I think I can entice DH to come down, We have to visit Anaheim anyhow to see my Dear Dad and my adorable Red Head Grandkids etc!!! And We did discuss San Diego.
Hey Bloom, Ya wanna camp? We love to camp! Got shade, We will be there especially after hearing CHOCOLATE!!!!!
We would be bringing in our sweet long legged Golden Retriever, is that a problem?
I'm all excited now, a must do,
Annie
Annie...That is GREAT....and I look forward to meeting you. Jo
Hi Annie,
Wow, that is so cool that your going to come to the RU. We look forward to meeting you too. My DH is also coming and he's not even a plant person....but will enjoy talking to the other spouses. If your DH is a golfer, my DH and him will have a lot to talk about....lol
Regarding your sweet Dog, I would think you need to ask drdon if there is a problem, ok.
Now, you need to take a look at the plant trade thread and see if there is anything there that you might like to have.
See ya soon,
Donna
Not sure yet, seeds or C&S, LOL, We'll be driving down to Anaheim the Saturday prior, We moved North only about 3 years ago, so this will be fun for both, We have our favorite C&S nurseries around, yes, DH golfs, he's good to me and plants, LOL,
Annie
Hi Annie, my DH will doggie sit -- he loves goldens! :-)
Kathleen
This sounds like a lot of fun. Let's see...I have the address and the time but I understand there is a food thread. How do I go about finding this? Kachinagirl, I really hope that you can come to this event. All we need now is for June 25th to come... Chuck
Hi Chuck,
Glad to hear you are going to come to the RU. You won't be sorry. I have hosted the last 2 RU's here in So. CA and they were so much fun. It's nice to finally meet some of these lovely people.
Here are 2 of the threads you might be interested in looking at for the RU.
Food: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/515213/
Plant trades: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/513049/
We look forward to meeting you. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. :-)
Donna
kaperc, you're the best!!!
I'm new to DG and this RU sounds like a lot of fun. Alas, my June 25th for this year is all booked up.
Guess I'll have to wait for the next one. Hopefully I'll have a few things to trade by then.
I wish everyone a wonderful time.
Sorry you can't make it, Quyen. Welcome to DG -- there are lots of wonderful people here and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
I've lost track of all the threads. I am gonna be there around 11 to 12 on Sat., is that ok? Gotta work and originally was gonna sneak out around 9:30 but now that looks like it will be hard to do.
Mark
Hi Mark,
That will be fine. I nice that you want to make it anyway. We will all be just chatting away and the time flies during that time. Since most of the people will be coming from several distances, everyone will show up when they can.
I'm really looking forward to meeting you.
See ya when you get there. :-)
Donna
