Round Up in San Diego

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Ok. Roadrunner has made reservations so we are gonna have a round up. June 25th. Tentatively at Mission Bay. What do you think and who wants to help?!!

Columbus, OH(Zone 5b)

What's a round up?

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

An event where everyone gets together to swap food, lies, and plants. Lol! In reality, we get together to get to know one another face to face and trade a plant or three. I am thinking pot luck for food.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

I can help with perishables, since I'm local -- we can work that out later.

OK to bring a friend who is not a DGer?

Kathleen

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

You bet! The more the merrier.
Janice

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Can you take up a collection to have me knocked out and flown in? LOL

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Badseed,

Now, how would we explain THAT at the security check? ;-)

Arroyo Grande, CA

I will be there. Let me know what I can bring or help with. My daughter lives near by and we go to SD quite frequently. In fact we just came back from there yesterday. Should be great fun. I have never been to one, so I have no idea what to bring or do. But I assume the more knowlegeable will clue the rest of us in.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Chuck, until a year ago we were not that large a group. SoCal has had gatherings but this is the first "big" one so we will be figuring it out as we go. Thanks.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Just tell them I spent too much time in the lounge. LOL

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

ROFL. That would be something to see.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

just tell 'em "It's a medical condition, and the treatment is unconsciousness."

technically that's 'induced coma' and is sometimes reached with alcohol as in lounge or with pills - consulate your doc. LOL

I'm still looking at the possibility of showing up. but the desert is a bear to cross around the first of July. which 25th is pushing it. Plus I will only just be back home from my sister's. Have to spend some time in the yarden. But I'll keep lurking. K? ~Blooms

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

ya see, there's only 3 of us in Utah.

Quoting:
"It's a medical condition, and the treatment is unconsciousness."

LOL!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Send Morganne and a camera. She would be happy to take you place I am sure!! I can rent paddle boats to keep them busy all day.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Badseed's got zone envy I think! A
And I won't even mention what I first read when I looked at her post "have me knocked out"! I thought What! Again! Oh, never mind, the word is 'out'. whew!

Modesto, CA(Zone 8b)

And I have petroglyph envy for Badseed's area! K :~D

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Lol Sue. Me too. My first thought was that she needed to talk to DH about that-not us. Glad we got that straightened out.

Rotterdam, NY(Zone 5b)

aaawwe sounds like you all will have a great time!! I would love to join in on the fun...but unfortunately both my daughters are going to camp this summer for 4 weeks, they leave June 23rd, and it's pretty pricey for the both of them...but at least I'll have 4 weeks of continuous gardening without having to put on my 'cabby' hat LOL. Have fun you all!

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Hey Janice,

I've been keeping an eye out on this thread and the other one also. I've been really busy around here for the last few weeks as we had to have our house tented for termites and all the prepartion for it was amazing!! I am almost caught up with putting things back and alllllll those plants that I have are back in there homes.....almost. lol

So, are you getting much feedback yet. I am not seeing much action here, but you might be getting personal emails.

You should know that I WILL be there with bells on and ready to pitch in for anything. For anyone that is up here in my area, we can do a carpool, and I don't mind the driving myself. So anyone that wants a ride, just let me know.

Badseed, I think you need a vacation in sunny Calif.!! You are always welcome to come and stay with me and visit, then we'll drive down to the RU together. Oh my, wouldn't that be a kick in the pants!!! lol We will even let you be in charge of the plant trade, like you did for your RU in Ohio......I do promise you though, there won't be any cold, snowy or rainy weather on this RU. hehe

Come on Californians, lets give Janice some feedback and try to make it to this Roundup. I have hosted the last 2 CARU's and had a fantastic time.

Counting the days already....hehe

Janice, email me for any help, ok?

Donna

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Since we don't have the ability to see how many views a thread has now, I was just wondering if anyone is actually looking at this thread. I can't believe no one is posting whether they are interested or not.

How about some posts here guys, pretty please.

Janice, where are you girl? lol

Donna

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

I am here. I guess I had best compose a message and start sending it out via e-mail. I will give you a call probably this weekend and we can scheme lol. I should probably post a new thread in the Round Up forum since we have a date. Talk to you REAL soon
Janice

Modesto, CA(Zone 8b)

Where in SD is Mission Bay and what is it? (campground? hotel?) Stupid question probably, but I'm not from around there! What should we bring? (besides good food and plants to trade). I'm thinking of having "kachinagirl" embroidered on my Dave's Garden shirt! We should all do that, creative name tags! I hope my schedule works out that I can come!

Karen :~D

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Oh, do come, Karen. I'm looking forward to seeing people I've 'talked' to.

Janice can describe it better, since she's spent time there. It's a nice bay with hotels, conference centers, beaches, parks, water sports, etc. Very pretty setting. Try http://tinyurl.com/7c3h9

Kathleen

Modesto, CA(Zone 8b)

Ah, thanks for the link. Sure is purdy! :~D

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

There are some grassy park areas that are set up for picnicers and partiers. That would be us!! They have done a really nice job of remodeling this area.

Arroyo Grande, CA

So, what do you do at a roundup? What should we bring? What time do you usually start? How can I help?

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Chuck, I am sure that at least I will be there early to get a spot. We usually talk and eat and swap plants and eat some more, perhaps a blue soda or two, and eat and swap some more lol. I am going to figure out exactly where in the next couple of days sothat I can get the particulars posted. Thanks for the offer-I am sure Ii will need all of the help I can get.
Janice

Chuck, according to Roadrunner, we eat chocolate. :-)

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Drooping frog......... Sorry, I forgot about the chocolate. Jo would beat me with a palm frond if I forgot chocolate.

Arroyo Grande, CA

So, ok, what sorta plants are we talking here? Stuff you have grown? One gallons? small stuff? I might have some things by then. That is about a month or so out. Jatropha multifidia should be leafed out by then. Some crotolarias might be big enough. Muhlenbergia rigens in 6 packs, Heteromeles arbutifolia are looking good in 4.5 inch. Bound to be something ready. Seeds too?

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Goodness, I'd better bring lots of chocolate to make up for the plants I don't have!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Anything at all is great. One thing you learn on this site is that one man's weed is at the top of someone elses wish list. All of those sound wonderful. I plan to start cuttings this weekend. I have some Plectranthus mona lavender started and a few others. The fireflash is not looking to happy-ope it perks up. I have some WELL rooted brug cuttings, if my pollywogs ever turn to frogs. Lol!

Arroyo Grande, CA

I have been pulling pups off some of the agaves I got from Huntington sales. They are doing quite well and being a one of each kind of guy I have been unsure of what to do with them, they might be interesting. And the pups of Kalanchoe prolifera as well.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Janice, I loved the mind pic of a drooping frog. ;))

Atascadero, CA(Zone 8a)

Just had a chance to take a breath (and look at DG's) after a whirlwind of activity the last 10 days and WOW! a sticky for a RU for US!!! It will be my first. My calendar is clear that weekend and if Karen can make it from Modesto, surely I can hogtie my husband and make the trip. (No fight if he finds out there will be good eats there. ;-J) Sounds good at this point. And I'll need to get busy on plants too.

;-Janet

Rotterdam, NY(Zone 5b)

How can I get involved? Is it too late? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lisa

Modesto, CA(Zone 8b)

Yikes.....DH booked our trip to Raleigh, NC......June 30th! If I drive down to San Diego.....whiew!!!!! Hope I can get caught up on all my work by then so I can go!
Karen

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Lisa, just show up and have fun! This is my first, too.
Janice will post details about the location, etc.

Karen, you ARE going to be busy, aren't you? Hope it all goes right.

Kathleen

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

I think all of the folks on the inland corridor should jump a train Lol. Let's see, if PudgyMudpies gets on in Stockton and Karen gets on in Modesto and surelysome LA folks can hop on....... I see a pre roundup party happening
