Alfalfa...sources in Virginia by DC?

Annandale, VA(Zone 7a)

Since I'm new to the area many of you educated me on some wonderful garden centers. None seemed to understand my need for 40-50# bags of Alfalfa pellets or meal, though. Are there any farm feed type stores in the general area (this is the type of store where I could always find alfalfa products when living in Dallas and Minneapolis)?

Try Southern States :)

Thanks Dea

I'll give them a call to see what store (closest to my new house in Annandale, VA.) carries alfalfa products in bulk. Seems they have many retail outlets if I've located the right Southern States on the internet. Jean

Im lucky to have a southern states about 20 minutes from me but also a farm supply within 5. If you can find a saddlery in your area they might also be able to tell you what places should have it.
My yard isnt very big but I bought a 50lb bag last year and still have about 1/8 left, just enough to help get the season started and still have time to go get more.

Dravencat,

Appreciate your advice. I've contacted a tack shop in Alexandria. They put me onto Booth Feeds where I purchased 2- 50# bags of alfalfa pellets. Just closed on a house, yesterday, in Annandale, VA so will now have 1/2 acre of land to garden.

OOOOO Wow Congratulations jardin. I hope the move goes smoothly for you. I moved so many times in my twentys that when I finaly moved into my first home here I was bound and determined I wasnt going to do it again, LOL. But if the right property were to come up I wouldnt complain. LOL
Alot of Virginia is horse country so I got to thinking about saddlerys and tack shops and such, thinking that people there should know where you can buy what your looking for and at decent prices too.
How soon before you get to Va from MN?

I've actually been working in Rosslyn since mid-November 2004. Stayed in a furnished corporate apartment for 1 1/2 months. I'm currently in a rented carriage house on Arlington Ridge Road, Arlington and now will move into our house in mid-June. Have a lease until the end of June, but we decided to do some renovations before we have our furnishing moved from Dallas.....yes, you heard right, I most recently lived in Dallas for the past 2 years and commuted to my other house in Minneapolis.

Minneapolis will always be home.... we won't ever sell that house. Hate to even sell my Dallas house because I just got the gardens the way I wanted them and the roses grow so beautifully there. One can have just so many mortgages and something has to give! Looks like it will be Dallas. I'm looking forward to gardening in my new zone. Already have 24- 6' Emerald Green Arborvitaes sitting in my rented house's driveway waiting to be transported and planted at my new house. Want to screen out some street traffic.
