My house looks like a wreck!

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

Well - Char - don't know what to tell you......you know there's one in every crowd - LOL! You just keep on cleanin' and we'll think of you often as we look at our dust elephants and not care! ROTFL! Anytime you want to come over here and do the "neat freak" thing for me - feel welcome. I'll sit and knit while you clean! OH- I slay me!

Dravencat....you keep working on that dishwasher unloading thing....I can't figure it out either.....

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Its still so confusing that I need to go clean and decorate another birdbath to calm down and check for scapes and get those leaves out of the other beds and and ......... LOL

Timberlea, NS(Zone 6a)

Dravencat....you keep working on that dishwasher unloading thing....I can't figure it out either.....

You know, my husband and I came up with a theory that if you have two dishwashers, you can just keep tranferring the dishes from one to the other. You just have to remember which one is the current clean one and which is dirty! (That's where it kinda falls apart for us. LOL!)

I'm lucky the DH does the dishes. I cook and then put up the leftovers and he rinses and puts in the washer. So he's generally the one who takes it out also. But we do have to have one of those Dirty/Clean magnets on the front or I'll dirty the clean ones up.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

That's why I don't have a dishwasher. All the dishes are always in it, whether clean or dirty.

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

heehee. Oh I remember, I have kids!! The oldest does something with those dishes after I wash them, I guess Ill have to ask her what happens.

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

D-cat - You so funny! BTW - all notice my name change - Mbock is not BetsyBug!

Tucson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Like Dravencat I clean when I'm mad.

I've been much too happy lately. I need to have my mother-in-law come visit so I'll be forced into a good Scramble Cleaning Frenzy.

Well, I've been watching this forum for several days. I just finished my spring cleaning, and although my house is clean now, DH returned the bob cat this afternoon, where I had used it to scoop out the dirt, dust, dog and cat hair, grandchildren's unfinished food. I found some in a closet and under a bed!! And I thought she was really eating good!! Not-- just stashing it. I don't usually do "spring cleaning" but all my family is coming for Mother's day, and it just had to be done. Speaking of dish washers, nobody around here knows that the door opens, and you put dirty dishes in it. Everything goes in the sink, until I come along and put it in the dishwasher. Very seldom every empty it. I have a system, I put clean glasses on one side, and the dirty ones on the other side, same with plates. The clean silverware in one side of the basket, dirty in the other. Gosh, that really sounds gross!!!! By the time we have used all the clean ones, it's already loaded and ready to be started. Well, I have enjoyed knowing that I am not the only unhousekeeper in the land. Sisters unite!!

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

If dirty house offends you don't want to come here.
Old house old people to much to do .
I am a gardener and not a cook or maid .
All i can say its fresh dirt brought in every day > and GRC i wash plants in kitchen sink all the time it gives the dishes company LOL

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I repotted a plant in the sink after reading this thread. The bad habits I learn here.:o) LOL......Not really I have done that for a long time. What is a little more dirt on the dirty dishes? Or even the clean ones. heehee

Blessings,
Sandy ^8^

If you want to see my house clean, come in the winter. That's all I really have to do other than go to work.

If you want to see ME, and my gardens, come between spring and late fall. I'll show you around the yard and give you a glass of iced tea on the deck, or a beer if you desire. If you have to use the bathroom, do so at your own risk. LOL

For me, cleaning is a seasonal thing. Seriously, I DO keep it picked up and sanitary, but I have better things to do after work during the summer months, so if the dust gets a little thick, or there's mulch tracked in, I don't worry about it too much.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I've been really busy transplanting and tending plants for my little greenhouse business, but I have to add a short story here. My house is never 'spotless', but when spring hits, you can find me at a table in front of the the television with flats of cell packs and trays of plants to be transplanted over. In my basement, I dump large bundles of potting soil into totes and fill flats, then carry them upstairs 16 at a time.

Of course, I have little time for cleaning, but I do manage to sweep up the dirt in front of the TV after a day of combat transplanting. Sometimes, when I am very tired, I just sweep the dirt into a pile and leave the broom next to it in expectation of the next day. Two days ago, my DH decided to help, so he swept up a huge dust pan full of dirt, the walked over to the previous day's pile and dumped his dustpan full into it. I laughed until tears came to my eyes! There was a waste basket closer than the pile he could have dumped it in. I guess we are just in 'dirt' mode.

House is a wreck, filed an extension on my taxes for the first time in my life, passed by a mirror today and about fell on the floor. All because of being a DG addict in spring. Be warned I do not make a pretty picture under these circumstances!

Dang that looks pretty close to me in the morning,LOL.

I too clean my plants in the kitchen sink, I found its actualy a good way to get me in gear to clean it out so I have room to put all the plants, heehee

Its a rainy day here-i have to clean the house!!

.....or you could play on DG instead. :-)

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Still warm and sunshiny, my house is in trouble! Today Im transplanting some things into the shade so this should be a good day.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

When it is too hot here to be outside, And that is most of the year, I will go out when it is raining because it is so much cooler. Not pouring just raining. I enjoy that.

There goes the house even on rainy days. Oh well.

Then every other weekend DGD come one 4 and on 2 and it gets toys everywhere and most of the time they are there on the floor till they return after another 2 weeks.

"Now dust webs and cob webs you all go to sleep. I am rocking my babies and babies don't keep."

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

I'm with ilove, during the summer (which seems to last forever) it's so hot (and muggy) here that when it rains it's a great time to be outside on my porch. It's cooler and the skeeters (size of small cars) don't eat me up. One of these days when the screened in porch fairy comes to visit my house I'm going to live in it! Can't wait...*pictures herself in a hammock on the porch with fans blowing and a frosted glass of sweet tea and a book*

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

My house looks so bad I could cry. Dirt on everything, plants everywhere and oh my it is bad. I hope the boh doesn't show up because they would take the kids (gold fish, birds and dogs) LOL. I don't know if I am going to ever see the floor or table top again.

Moon Twp, PA(Zone 6a)

Hilarious!! You all have my house pegged to a "T". Char, you are cordially invited to visit for a couple months, to get your fill of cleaning; we'll just leave your return flight open.

And to think that a friend of mine once introduced me (1986?) to her neighbor as "this is the one I told you about that had to put all the designs on the plates in the same directions" I am cured!!

If she saw my house now, she'd have a heart attack! Clutter, clutter, everywhere! Had to move the stuff down from upstairs to rip walls off, insulate and drywall. Too bad my step-bro couldn't figure out obtuse angle, wasted 7 boards then fled, no time left...

With work, school, kids and life, clutter just accumulated. No, it multiplied exponentially! Took vacation time to study. Time to clean? Are you out of your mind?! Only did the bare essentials that I could not delegate: dishes. Got smart, bought disposable. Those precious moments I did get were reserved for my girls and sleep!

Finally either exhaustion or common sense attacked. I withdrew after 7 months of 100+ hrs week split between work and law school. Then, my boss was elated, I had time available to work overtime... Yikes!

Now, I can look at the mess, blame my hand (injured at work in Feb) and go outside with my 7 y/o. We are figuring out where we want to put the new rose bushes and fruit trees; looking at the buds on nectarine planted last year; discussing where she can have her garden; when we should prune her pussy willow, etc. We are doing the important things first!!

So what if we haven't eaten at the table in forever. Got to have room for my paperwork, plants, etc. 19 y/o is stuck in house, on her computer. Great investment, this DSL. Keeps down the family arguments about who is allowed online at any given time. Now that I found Dave's, spend time here too. So much so that dau (7 y/o) wanted supper before her bedtime. Hmmm, have to teach her how to cook some more items.

Have to invite the 3 bareroot fruit trees and 2 bareroot roses in as snow coming again this weekend. Good thing I found out about weather before planted them! When will spring really be here?? At least the roses in pots on front porch can stay out. It's getting a LITTLE crowded in here, to say the least!

Good night all. This is a great thread! Have fun and enjoy, for there is always time to clean, tomorrow. Good thing about tomorrow, it never gets here... LOL ~ Suzi :)

Hope Valley, RI(Zone 6b)

araness - I joined flylady back in January. Now I can be in the garden guilt free. I love to be out in the garden but always had that little nagging voice in the back of my mind saying "you know you should be inside doing (fill in the blank).... instead of working out here"
I now spend 15 minutes in the am, 15 minutes after lunch and 15 minutes after dinner. It is very suprising how much you can get done when you finally say "just do it... don't over think it."
Weekends are now spent enjoying not catching up. I heard of the site in one of the other forums here. This place is great and very infomative.

In the last 3 months I have found 3 rooms
Kitchen - I have more cabinet space than I though I did.
Master Bedroom - Wow there really is a closet in here and now I can find what I am looking for in there.
Computer Room - you can now see the floor and actually find a book and room to read it.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

I have lost my nagging voice ?
All i can say is free at last . Well till the
health dept. gets me . LOL

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

I have to confess - I unloaded the dishwasher last night - 2 bowls, 2 glasses and several forks and spoons were all that were left in there - but I wanted to see the sink - so I even loaded and RAN a load of dishes......I know......I'm a heathen. It's against my nature - but sometimes......LOL

If I can get DH to agree to it - we're about to pull up the carpet downstairs in the great room and put down vinyl until the two old cats (that "mark") are no longer with us - then we'll do something nice. Can you imagine how nice it would be to not have carpet to keep up with? Oh joy......

Enough true confessions for me for now!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

I think gardeners houses need to be designed specifically for our needs. I never want carpet again! It's terrible being a dirt-monger and obsessive-compulsive! A gardening friend of mine says he feels like his carpet is like underwear you can't change! Another gardening friend of mine is building her dream home and has designed it to suit a gardeners needs-I'm so happy for her, but envious at the same time. No carpet, a mud room with a shower to wash up before going in the main living space, and a covered porch designed specifically for canning and processing produce. When the house is done she's going to subscribe so I'll have her post pics so you can all be envious to! Oh yes, and she has huge windows with perfect light and extra wide window sills. I should just move in with her.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Lots of farms used to have "Summer Kitchens". They were a small building just off to the side of the regular kitchen door. They were used for canning, cooking meals for large groups, such as threshing crews, & processing home butchering. Most are gone here, ones that are left are just storage sheds.
New era, new ways, I guess.
Our basement is a real example of a complete potting shed. We use it all winter until the greenhouses are opened up. It is one of those cold, damp, dank places during the summer. It has 2 floor drains that are hooked to field tile. To clean basement, you hook up a water hose & flush it all down the drain. Walls & ceiling is cleaned with an old broom if things get to thick.
My son loves it, he is not much for clean!
Have a great day !

As I read each post I became quite aware that I AM NOT ALONE you all sound just like me, could not even have guests over for dinner because the table was loaded with Brug plants waiting for warm weather so they could go outside, my daughter said 'Mom I have never seen your house so crowded befor' ( she had to clear of a chair to sit down ) what did I do befor I found DG 8 months ago.

I CHEATED!! Its so rainy and cold out I got bored, and oldest DD was on the puter. Look what I did! "Sniff" I swept the dining room, living room and steps, but I didnt vacuum.

Look at all that stuff!

Thumbnail by Dravencat
Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

D-Cat did you sweep MY dining room and living room? LOL

I was going to post this but Darius' quote above is about the same thing.......

"A clean house is a sign of people that don't have hobbies and interests."

I like Darius' quote much better.

Lilesville, NC(Zone 7b)

oh my dravencat, that sure is alot of stuff you've swept up....but i guess when there is a forum like DG then you have no choice but to let the stuff build up or you will miss a whole nother world...lol

Char

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Dravencat, I could sweep up a scoop shovel full every day.... but I don't! LOL! We don't have carpeting, we don't even have linoleum. We have painted plywood floors, and the paint is wearing off! The only thing good I can say about it is that it looks so bad it doesn't show the dirt! I'd be thrilled if I could just get another coat of paint on it.

Living in a small Alaskan community, and living the gardener's life, I could never have carpeting. We drag in dirt, some on our shoes, some in big sacks! I wish I had a house with concrete walls and floors with a big drain in the middle. I could connect the hose and spray it all down every night!

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Hmmmmm.....Now THERE'S a thought!

Lilesville, NC(Zone 7b)

Dravencat, I hope you did'nt take offence to what i said. I just read it and it sounded really rude and mean to me. I am sorry if it sounded that way to you as well.

Char

LOL Dravencat that should go on the identification forum. Everybody could chime in with "I have one of those- but I can never get it to bloom... should I fertilize it?"

Hugs to you Char... everybody types things that when they read them back sounds different than what they meant... I think it usually sounds worse to the person who typed it.

and at my house...If you write in the dust, please dont date it

hugs to all

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

red_princess, not at all. Took it as it was supposed to be taken. LOL, I cant have a dirty house and take offense easily, Id be in some major no friends trouble if I did. LOL. Sorry it took me so long but....welllll...........I got mad today........not really mad but super anoyed so I.I........I CLEANED. Boohoo, so ashamed. It was so bad I even took the glass panels off of my chanelier, cleaned them AND put them back on, wwaaahhhh. All my dust elephants have trampled into my room and are hiding under the water bed.

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

I just hung a sign up , not to excuse myself, only to explain the condition of my house. it says "Martha doesn't live here!" in small print " And I'm not going to invite her " . Lou

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

D-cat....it's okay....you'll get over it.....I promise. I know it hard, but those elephants will forgive you and soon be back to visit I'm sure! LOL!

I love you guys!

Marcia

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

"sniiiiffff" I know but do you know what dust elephants bumping around under a water bed does? Talk about rough seas!

On the good side I finaly found my favorite pajama pants, I thought the oldest DD took them but theyve been hiding in the laundry basket. At least I wasnt so mad I was mopping the bathroom ceiling again. LOL
