Stupid question o' the day

Eustis, FL(Zone 9a)

We should have a Gardening for Dummies forum...

When someone refers to a 4" pot, or a 6" pot, are they meaning 4" tall, or across, or?

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Across. the size of the opening where you shove the dirt in. LOL. Not a stupid question, I had that same thought years ago.

Fort Wayne, IN(Zone 5a)

And then you have the question of Azalea pot or Standard and are we talking about a round pot or square. LOL. I just look on the bottom of the plastic ones. Jessamine

LOL decisions decisions. Its almost as bad as the "what do you want for dinner" question

Eustis, FL(Zone 9a)

Speaking of dinner, who has time to prepare dinner when there is planting to be done?! When the rest of the family gets home, they're used to dinner being ready. Now they see me out in the yard with dirty hands and a trowel saying "but where did the time go, I just got out here".

I love it everytime anybody says 'stupid questions"
They are the ones that get looked at first
People who ask "stupid questions"are courageous because most people are scared to open themselves to ridicule when they would like to know the answer
There is an evolution of knowledge in every subject and I like the way ,here at Dave's, that older, more experienced gardeners share that.

Thats my excuse for dinner being late this time of year, its almost an everyday thing. So much to do, and the kids are old enough to make oodles of noodles on thier own.LOL

Ash--

That's why I love this place so much, eveyone is so willing to help out! Hopefully someday I'll be able to give the answers to those who are asking :)

Good question! (And as I used to tell my team: There are no stupid questions - but there are dumb mistakes that result from being afraid to ask a question ;o)

I didn't know what an azalea pot was, so I looked it up and added it to Garden Terms along with an entry for a "standard pot."

Now, if someone has some pots and a digital camera (and a ruler or tape measure) they could do us all a huge favor and line up some pots to show the difference in sizes, as well as show how to measure a pot and determine its size: http://davesgarden.com/terms/go/2813/

And if you want to get a shot of an azalea pot and standard pot next to each other, that picture would be very helpful, too: http://davesgarden.com/terms/go/2812/

It says on the bottom of the pot what size it is? LOL Whoda thunk...
