First time gardener

Marble Hill, NY(Zone 6a)

When is it ok to put the perennials into the ground outside? I have pomponette and stonecrop in pots and I live in the Bronx NY. I grew up in the tropics (only two seasons -- wet and dry) so this changeable weather gardening thing is new to me.
Thanks for your advice

Hello Jxmas! : )
I have already been planting perennials.
If they have been indoors, you might want to harden them off first.
Good luck with your new garden!!

Cool. What do you mean by harden?

I put mine out in a protected area during the day (covered porch) and then bring them in to the unheated garage at night. Do this for a few days. That way the plants will get used to the climate change.
Do you know what zone you are in? I am a 5/6 but the weather has been warmer than past years.

Ahh! Good advice. I think I'm in a zone 5. It has really been warm here too, but my neighbors are full of April snow storm stories.

The perennials should be able to survive the snowstorms, but it will set them back. You can call your county extension office and ask for their recommendations. One question you can ask is the last frost date. At least that is what I go by for planting tender perennials and annuals.
