I am a newbie and need some help with Gerbera Daisy. Recently had the opportunity to purcase some beauties that are blooming on 2 foot stems. Could I get some feed back on how to keep them healthy and blooming? The leaves are looking a little "dusty". I know that they do not like for the crown to be too wet and like to be fed often, but what?
Gerbera Daisy
Are you going to plant them in the ground? I don't have any real advice, but over three years ago I received some potted G.D.'s as a welcome gift to my new job. They have remained in the pot, outdoors, in afternoon sun all this time. Plus, they overwinter just fine. One time I dumped them out and put fresh soil in the pot, but otherwise they don't get any special attention. They bloom every couple of months and right now the foliage looks especially handsome (a lot like collard greens!)
The little bit of reading I've done indicates that they are native to South Africa and are supposed to be drought tolerant. Mine, however, start to droop very dramatically if they don't get regular water.
Not sure if it would be the same in Savannah, but here in Houston they need to be moved out of the sun during the hot months, so I plant them in containers. Then they get the sun they want during the spring, but they don't fry in the summer.
