Venting..... Ebay purchase gone crazy....

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

It must be the tax write off they make out on.
If they buy wholesale they can come out great. I saw something I had bought at our dollar store on ebay for $8.00 starting bid. Of course somethings are not easy to come across at dollar store until like me. I paid $8.00 on ebay and then saw it in the dollar store.
Who would have thought? I sure learned.
I usually learn the hard way. Hey but I learned. I hope.

Blessings,
Sandy

Yep- $12 bucks each for 10 pairs of glasses is awful but I have to tell you that as a full time seller on ebay, there is no way to pack a set of dishes or many other fragile items with out expecting some sort of handling fee for all of the cost of packing materials. Shipping heavy things via USPS is not as cost effective for the buyer as UPS. My guy in brown, when asked how we should expect our shipped items get treated, held his arms straight out in front of him and said "Expect every item to get dropped from here about 20 times before your customer gets it." Bubbbles and popcorn are not free last I checked! (Wish I could grow them in my garden!)

I have also sold things where I lost money on the entire transaction because shipping was way more than expected. USPS and UPS use a thing called dimensional weight and even if it weighs 5 punds, if it is more than a certain L+W+H, they charge you automatically for a 70 lb box. Meezers- that was very nice of your DH. Everyone loves getting an ebay bargain (including me!) but knowing that a small business owner lost $ because of a biggie like USPS or UPS.

But back yto the original intent here- combined shipping is kind, considerate and good business and asking for it is not a crime. Any seller who reacts badly to that is never going to be fun to do business with.

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

I just got finished reading this interesting and informing thread.

First if this seller is in the Garden Watchdog, and people have dealt with her with unpleasant results, by all means please admit that! People should be warned.

VS, count your blessings. Not many plants are worth having to enter into a transaction with some one like that. Imagine if something went wrong and you had to confront her about it.

I'm sure you can find most of those plants you wanted from some other place. Prairie Moon Nursery sells the prairie smoke, etc.

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

I kind of want to go and ask her some really stupid questions just to p*ss her off now! Lol.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

CaptMicha, How is your red cascade rose?

I don't think people like that get ticked off. They live to act and do what they do. At least that is my opinion.

You know I have witnessed in the last 2 years what goes around comes around. I know they must think about some of the things they did. I hope so.

One stole my daddy's farm (when he died) right out from under us.
And now he has cancer. When I found out It really did not make me feel good but my thought was I am not surprised. I can't remember the other one right this minute but they really do get what they give or worse.

I am only sorry that they hurt so many people. You did not deserve this. But better this than being ripped off. Evidently they don't need our money. They don't realize that none of us will share our money with them.

It would be cool if alot of us went to her and ask to be banned. So we never accidentally buy from her.

We could say:

Please ban me from your ebay listings as I know you banned one of my 100's of family
members at my favorite web site just for asking a question. If you don't need her money you will not get any of mine. I guess you would rather be mean to her than sell her a big order.

I hope you always know everything as it is tough not to and get a mean response and mistreated for asking a question. It must be nice to be that smart. I would not know.

A dollar is a dollar, but mine will stay in my pocket. Thank you for letting me know ahead of time you don't need mine. As a matter of fact anyone else I know will appreciate the fact you don't need theirs.

Don't be surprised if I am not the only one to ask you for this. To ban me is to love me.

Gratefully yours,
Sandy

Just thinking out loud.

Again I am sorry you were treated like this.

Blessings,
Sandy

Thanks everyone ..... I agree Sandy..... we reap what we sow........ as gardeners - we all know how true that is

Linden, TN

As a full time Ebay seller, I am shocked and appalled by some of the responses she has given folks.. even ones that gave her a positive feedback. What a horrid person... and insulting as all get out. She has some things I would like to order, but believe me when I tell you... I would rather eat worms that buy from her...
My money will stay right here in my pocket thank you.....

Blessings,
Carolyn

The rose is growing like a weed, just the way it ought to! I hope it'll flower soon.

VS, https://www.prairiemoon.com/store/template/product_detail.php?SID=c82bd13644c23e2b20781ca0e5791cf4&IID=1071

They have prairie smoke, at a couple cents less than that... seller's... and with only .40 shipping! There's alternatives. Plus, they give you discount if you buy more than a certain amount, unlike that.... seller....

Taylor, TX(Zone 8b)

wow! i, too, have been tempted by the rare plants but was turned off by feedback % and high shipping. i read a nasty feedback she left someone attcking his auction feed...not even related to their transaction?!!! Did you see that one!

again...WOW.

she'll never get my money...even tho I really want that black joe pye weed. anyone know of another place i can get one?

Michelle

Osage City, KS(Zone 5b)

Is black joe pye and chocolate joe pye the same..... ?

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

I agree, I could not believe the things she wrote. She will definatly not get any money from me.

Sandy I really like your idea, that makes me think of being nice to someone because you know it will get thier goat more than yelling at them will.

what goes around comes around-small case in point- Found a $20 bill laying on the floor in a grocery store, I coulda really used the money, but thought if this was all they had till payday too they would come looking for it. I asked several people if they lost any mone and all honestly checked and told me no(that was great), then I went to the front desk, told them my story and told them that if no one claims it I would like to have it. You cant imagine the raised eyebrows and boy this lady is weird looks I got. But one of them said God is gonna bless you for this, that was cool too. I went back 2 weeks later and they still had the money with a sticky note stapled to it and handed it over to me. I now had $20 guilt free and at the register to pay for my purchases I gave $2 of it to help the needy. I figured I got something nice for free so I spread it around a little bit.
Sorry so long but pppppththtththt on that sellers attitude.

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

That's a great story. Especially when you used it to help some one else. I like when people pass along good deeds.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Dravencat you were blessed for a good deed and then blessed others again. It will keep coming. You are a sweetheart.

Thanks for liking my idea. It is so hard when someone you know gets took by someone else and they are mean on top of that.

Blessings,
Sandy ^8^

Prospect Park, PA(Zone 7a)

You know, I took a look at that seller's feedback and some of the positives are unbelieveably gushing...almost sickening sweet. I buy off ebay sometimes and I leave feedback, short and sweet:

Perfect transaction.

Not, "This is the best seller on ebay, my product was even better than I had hoped, what a great ebayer, I will definitely buy again! Super A++++++++++++++++!!!" OR,"I planted 3 seeds 2 days ago, all three came up today. Germ rate is !00%, even better than I expected. Thank you for the nice note with instructions and also for the extra seeds!!!"

There were a LOT of similar "positives". Doesn't that strike you as a little...phony? I also noticed that the same buyer would buy 5 things and leave this kind of long, drawn out, gushy praise for each item! A little weird, huh?

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

I wonder how she gets any sales. Or such gushing customers. I asked what size plants one of the auctions was for and was just ignored. Between ignoring people and verbally attacking people, it all seems more than a little strange.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Isn't that the truth.

Sandy

Osage City, KS(Zone 5b)

CaptMicha, maybe with this one being ignored isn't such a bad thing

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I have both bought and sold on eBay. The deal is to get a bargain if you are a buyer. If a seller says on the auction, buyer to pay actual postage, I e-mail them my zip code and ask them how much the actual shipping is.
I have only been ripped off once. Bought a pink lamp with a bronze ring around the bottom. The auction said there was some slight damage to the ring. But when I got it, the lamp had apparently been dropped, warping the bronze, so that the lamp will not sit level. If you tough it, it rocks a bit. However, sitting on top of my chest of drawers, you can't tell much unless your're looking for it.
I also bought 4 Charles Grimaldi brugmansia cuttings from a very reputable seller and they all died.....

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

Ebay is very difficult. I've sold occassionaly and have received some bad feedback when it was out of my control. Or just couldn't please some people. It goes on and on.

Linden, TN

Every Brug I purchased off of an Ebay seller has totally croaked on my. So, I shall just be happy with the ones that I have that are growing well...

Which reminds me... I have to get them planted in the next couple of days....

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Me, too. But my cuttings didn't do very well and I lost a lot of them. I am really hoping the ones I have left make it .

Hello from a newbie to DG (Irishbelle aka Colleen)

VS71009, thank you for posting this thread. I was going to purchase a few items from this seller, but every time I would go to one of her items my Spybot warning window would pop up. So, I decided to do a search here on VailVillager. I won't be giving my hard earned money to such a meanie. There are plenty of "other sellers in the garden."

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Hello Colleen and welcome to DG! You will love it here. Some of us have become quite close friends. You must try a Round-up (to swap plants) in your area some time. Great fun, food and swapping.
Most of eBay is OK, there's always going to be a few jerks when you consider the huge numbers of people who use eBay......Betty

Osage City, KS(Zone 5b)

Welcome irishbelle aka Colleen...... I'm glad my posting helped..... I didn't start it to bash anyone but sounds like I'm not the only one (and I didn't think so) who has less than positive ebay experiences...... I'm still addicted to Ebay - not nearly as bad as I'm addicted to DAVE'S......

Linden, TN

Hi Colleen,
Looks like the general consensus is to stay away from that particular ebay seller... I know I won't be buying from her either...

Welcome to Daves

Blessings,
Carolyn

Orange County, NY(Zone 5b)

Thanks all. So sad to see a plant person go bad :-(
I still love eBay though. I have a small addiction to Noritake 16034 china and garden themed costume jewelry. Small being relative, of course, as compared to plants!

Cheers,
Colleen

Osage City, KS(Zone 5b)

it is all relative isn't it Colleen -

Columbus, OH

Hello posters one & all, particularly vs71099 - I don't know if you're still watching this thread, but I just had to post to say how very grateful I am to you all - you have made my day!

You see, I am a recent victim of Vailvillager's temper!! Yesterday, I emailed a query about one of her auctions and boy, was I flamed! She said it was the stupidest question she had ever heard ... and she called me a bottom feeder. Now, I must confess I was a bit upset - I have bought many things on eBay and, whatever its faults, I have found the traders to be charming... so this left a really bad taste in my mouth. But your posts cheered me up no end, and I realize that I have joined an honored band.

And the BEST thing is, I signed up for a full subscription to Dave's Garden, so I could read this thread - I am a winner all 'round! Thanks so much!!

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Hi Maura853. Welcome to Dave's Garden. I think you are going to love it here. And it is always nice to see another Buckeye join. :^)

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Welcome Maura...you won't find many buyers from Vailvillager here....we've been warned! It's surprising she doesn't have more complaints... You are going to love DG...

Osage City, KS(Zone 5b)

Welcome Maura.......DG'ers are the best...... I'm sure you and I shared some of the same feelings after our first contact with this seller.... shock, and wonderment at what went wrong so quickly...... you won't get that here at Dave's....... again welcome to the Garden......

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Hi from Newark, Maura - great to see another Ohioan! :)

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Even when a seller only has a few negatives I check to see what kind of comments the seller has made. If the comments are rude in anyway, I won't bid. I was appalled at the rude comments this seller left; sometimes for positive comments, too! It would be nice if we could block the seller, or if the sellers names were listed on the "View List," so we don't have to click on the item to find out who is selling it.

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

That's a really good system. Some times it's impossible to please people and so even the best may wind up with a negative or two. It's very important how they respond. It tells you what kind of person you're dealing with.

Albuquerque, NM

Trust me people, your worst imaginations about this seller are all correct.

She actually is proud of how rude she is.

There is a Power Seller only discussion board she is on. Let me tell you something, from what I see, there is not a nastier person on ebay than her. She actually works with a group of other nasty sellers to harass innocent eBay sellers who dare speak up about her.

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Thanks for all the good information. I have never bought anything from ebay and based upon the comments herein I doubt that I will. Trying to deal honestly with a stranger who has no store or other identifiable base is for the younger crowd who enjoy the search for a bargain. If you can't touch it before you buy it you have to believe in the integrity of that unknown seller, which we see here is doubtful at times. I really do appreciate your comments.

Albuquerque, NM

vailvillager actually has a B&M store too. it's just that she is a rotten egg and since she is selling on ebay she makes ebay look bad too.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Welcome Maura, That's terrible, you had to read that from someone who's suppose to be respectible. she's definitely getting worse and worse with her temper and attitude. Seems she's flamed soo many, and those that leave possitive feedback are ones that probably don't ask her any questions. Just bid and pay and you darned better pay within 7 days or she'll report you. that's just the person she is. she must have a hard life is all. Why else would someone be so hateful and so full of anger in her words.

It's a blessing to come here on daves . Does make the harder to deal with stuff seem so less important.

kathy_ann

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

There are always bullies. But there's also great folks. :)

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

balvenie - You'll find good folks on ebay and bad folks. Same as here, same as your own home town.

If you know what you're looking for, research the history of the seller, confirm shipping costs and set yourself a limit of what you are willing to pay before bidding - you can do just fine. I've bought upwards of a couple hundred items over the past several years - and only thing that was a real dud was a pair of diamond hoop earrings that were far smaller than the photo suggested, but that's my mistake. And given what I paid, probably wasn't THAT bad a deal. So, caveat emptor, but remain optimistic and careful, if you do decide to buy something.
