As some of you know, I planted my first garden last year. I've made many mistakes, but I think I've suceeded when many have failed.
I had two hanging baskets with purple wandering jew. These plants fell victim to frost, when I brought in all the plants, but forgot the hanging baskets. http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1195842 I've been told repeatedley not to worry, that wandering jew is extremely hardy, and will most definately come back. I took the plants and cut all the dead, frozen leaves off, then I brought them inside for the remainder of winter. Well, it's spring here in Tx, and still no new growth on them. Could it be that I'm the only one in the history of the world that has ever killed wandering jew?
My Incompetence
Maybe it isn't warm enough yet? I am in zone 6 and my neighbor had one for years. She would let the frost zap it back then put it in the garage for the winter. She took no heroic efforts, just stuck it in the garage at probably 30-40 degrees for the colder parts of the winter. Every summer she would drag it out and it would take off again. I bet those wonderful neices and nephews of her's pitched it. It was a purple heart in a huge purple vase. Sure was stunning in the drive between the white garage doors. :)
Mine is outdoors all year (inground). Gets nipped a bit during freezes but never has been finished off completely. It's been there at least six years. Let me know if you need cuttings.
