My Flemish Antique Poppy seeds, Help!

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

I wintersowed some Flemish Antique Poppy seeds and we've been having warm weather lately (it was near 80 yesterday!) so they've began sprouting. Today I look outside and it's snowing! And it's 28 degrees!

What to do? Are my poppies now dead?

Mt.Pleasant, SC(Zone 8b)

Well how do they look. Poppies come from cold places but I don't know since they are seedlings. Go by how they look now. Good luck.

They were covered in snow, I bruwshed some of it off and they were green! Yay! Everything is okay!

The snow is acting as a blanket to insulate the seedlings. If the snow mealts and the temps stay low you might want to use some Reemay or cover the seedlings with a layer of straw. Any thing will work that will trap air around them but won't be so heavy it will squash them. Jessamine

I'll have to look into purchasing some hay. It'll be good also to lay down on bare spots in the lawn whilst I lay down new seed.

I'd tell you the secrets to growing great poppies- but I lack them. So far every poppy I plant is doomed to shrivel up and die. :-
Let us know how yours do.

They sure look pretty in the pic, I hope they do something. I also have a gorgeous feathered red some super generous person sent me. They better do something too!

If and when they do, I'll have lotsa pics.

Hope your poppies do well for your. I only try to transplant the iceland poppies. The other varieties I plant out on ground just covering, in fact still have some to plant. It was so windy over the weekend that i couldn't do much outside. Anyway the reemay cloth idea is a good one . DonnaS
