Help .. I started some luffa seeds about a month ago,,they were doing wonderfull,, they are about 2 feet with a lot of leaves ,, Now the leaves are dieing off and the stemms are looking very limp. What happed to them.. I have them inside under bright lites and keep the soil moist. I have some more luffa seeds comming to me in a trade ,, but I just dont understand what is happed to these. Can some one tell me what I am doing wrong? I know the luffas need a long growing season and thats why I started them a month ago. Please any help will be appreciated. Here is a pic of the luffa ,, also the birdhouse gourd is doing the same the same thing.

Sounds like insects to me.....have you checked for spider mites and or aphids?

Abbottstown, PA(Zone 6a)

I didnt see any spider mites on them, I spray them with week soapy water once a week,, as for aphids, I am not sure what to look for,, are they those knats?

No aphids look like small greenish bumps (sort of)....it could I suppose be soil gnats eating away at the roots. HMMMMM
Hopefully others will have more or better ideas for you. :-(

Try watering them with 1 part Hydrogen peroxide to 20 parts water. Use the HP you get at the grocery store in the brown bottles. This can help for several ailments, even overwatering.

I did some research on HP and found this VERY INFORMATIVE site. Please check it out. I already did what they said to do for root rot and also sprayed my plants.

Great site Vicki! Thanks for sharing that.

Hey Vicki, Gourd plants need a lot of heat and light. If the soil is much less than 80-8 5oF they will begin to fail. The light needs to be as bright as possible to keep them going. Jessamine
